2 The great news about wool carpets is that they are naturally stain resistant. The unique scaly structure of the wool fibre means it resists soiling and releases dirt easily. As with any type of flooring however, it will need regular care to stay looking its best.

4 CARING FOR YOUR CARPET Your Cavalier Bremworth carpet will retain its good looks and last longer if you follow our recommended care routine: Dry vacuum regularly. Promptly attend to spills and stains. Never rub, brush or massage the carpet pile when it is damp or wet. When necessary, have a professional steam clean by a reputable operator. After your carpet is installed, some of the following may occur. None of these attributes relate to the inherent quality of your carpet or accelerated wear. 2

5 FLUFFING ON NEW CARPET SPROUTING When a carpet is new, balls of fluff may appear on the surface. These are loose bits of fibre left in the pile by the manufacturing process and are a tiny proportion of the fibre in the pile. This fluff will likely fill the bag of your vacuum for the first few times you vacuum and the quantity will diminish over time. It is perfectly safe to vacuum thoroughly. On loop pile carpets this fluff can be more difficult to free from the pile and may appear as frizzing. Use of a vacuum with strong suction will usually free these balls of fluff. Walking in socks or pantyhose on your new carpet can accentuate fluffing because the fibres in the socks or pantyhose can draw these loose fibres to the surface. A single tuft rising up from the pile surface is called sprouting and any such tufts in a cut pile carpet may be safely trimmed with scissors without affecting the appearance but do not pull the tuft or it could unravel and leave a hole in the carpet. With loop pile carpets, we would not recommend cutting the tuft professional repair would be advised and this can be arranged through your carpet dealer. CAVALIER BREMWORTH 3

6 TRACKING As the name suggests, tracking is the imprint left by footprints on your carpet. This is more common on the plusher cut pile surfaces and disappears with vacuuming, but may reappear when the carpet is next walked on. Carpet is most prone to tracking in areas of heavy use such as doorways and halls. These areas should be given extra attention during routine vacuum cleaning. 4

7 PERMANENT SHADING All cut pile carpets, particularly plush pile carpets may develop lighter or darker patches over time. Known as shading or watermarking it is caused by the permanent bending of the carpet pile fibres which then reflect the light differently. In this respect it is very comparable to other natural fibres such as velvet or suede which also show light and dark areas. The extent to which shading occurs cannot be accurately predicted or prevented and is most often related to the location of use. Brushing or shampooing does not reduce shading. Shading does not affect the wear or durability of the carpet and is not recognised as a manufacturing flaw or defect. This is not covered under your Cavalier Bremworth warranty. 8 FADING CRUSH MARKS In common with all textiles, your wool carpet will fade or change colour over time in areas consistently exposed to sunlight. Light and pastel coloured carpets are the most vulnerable, but no carpet is immune. This often goes unnoticed as the change is gradual over the years. 6 North or west-facing glass doors or floor-to-ceiling windows, are the worst offenders and we d recommend these be fitted with effective UV protection on the glass to prevent photo-degradation. Curtains, blinds and louvres offer the best protection. Laying tiles around the border of the room and insetting the carpet within this can also provide protection from the worst of the sunlight at the edge of a room. On occasions, new carpet will exhibit noticeable light and dark areas, often in strips. This is more likely to occur with plusher pile carpets and is known as crush marks caused by the weight of the carpet in a large roll pressing down on the layers underneath and bending the fibres. It can also happen when two rolls that have been rolled at different tightness are laid next to each other. Over time and with regular vacuuming and general foot traffic, this effect will diminish, though it can take 3-6 months or so for the marks to disappear entirely. This is not considered a manufacturing defect.

9 INDENTATIONS FROM HEAVY FURNITURE Place furniture cups under the legs of heavy furniture and regularly shift the furniture a few inches one way or another to give the pile a chance to recover. To revive flattened pile, you can use a warm steam iron over a towel laid on top of the carpet. Hold the steam iron gently to the towel and use the steam button to inject steam do not press the iron down on the towel as this could leave gloss marks on the carpet underneath. 11 MAINTENANCE GUIDE A regular maintenance programme will achieve four key things: 1. Remove soil and dirt from the surface of the carpet for both appearance and hygiene reasons. 2. Preserve the original texture of the carpet. 3. Help prevent infestation from insects and moths. 4. Increase the lifespan of the carpet. CAVALIER BREMWORTH 9

12 SOILING STAINING RECOMMENDED: More often than not, soiling occurs as the result of particles of dirt being walked into the carpet from some external source. Prevention is always better than cure, and we recommend door mats at all entranceways to create a barrier to soiling. Staining occurs from the chemical bonding of a pigment with the wool fibre. Once this bonding has taken place, removal can be extremely difficult without causing some damage to the carpet pile. This is why promptly attending to spills is so critical. The cleaning programme needs to be proportional to the carpet s exposure to soiling. Frequent and moderate cleaning is preferable to harsh treatment likely to be required if cleaning is done infrequently. 1. Dry vacuum regularly at least once a week and more often in heavy traffic areas. This will remove free soil particles and surface litter, and prevents soil becoming embedded in the pile, causing accelerated wear by grinding at the base of the tufts. Pay particular attention to the areas around doorways and skirtings which are often the first place for insects and moths to reside. Every few months vacuum under infrequently moved furniture. 10

13 For cut pile carpets (other than shagpile) and combination cut and loop: All types of cleaner heads can be used but over-use with a revolving brush-style vacuum cleaner head may affect the tailored appearance of your cut pile. We recommend using a plain suction head (avoiding unnecessary pressure which will flatten the carpet), and occasional grooming with your turbo or revolving brush head. 14 For loop pile and shagpile carpets: We recommend the use of a plain suction-type vacuum cleaner. Turbo or revolving brush head attachments may reduce surface hairiness or frizzing however over-use can lead to frizzing especially on loop pile berber carpets. Beater bar and adjustable revolving brushes should only be used on the lightest settings. 12 Occasionally: revolving brush head 2. Promptly attend to spills and stains. Never ever rub the wet carpet pile as this can cause permanent damage. 3. When necessary, a professional steam clean by a reputable company can remove entrapped soil particles and revive the appearance of your carpet. Do not be concerned about the wet cleaning process removing natural oil from your wool carpet most of this was removed during manufacture as an oily carpet attracts dirt far more quickly.

15 SPILLS & STAINS There are a number of cleaning treatments that can be used, depending on the type of stain. However, BEFORE you use any of them, do make sure you have contained the stain firmly blotting up any excess liquid spills and scraping up any solids. In the event of a very large stain, put a towel down and stand on it firmly to remove as much liquid as you can before applying any stain treatment. And please NEVER rub wet carpet which can cause permanent damage to the pile. Spray the problem area lightly and vacuum up using a nozzle when the white powder begins to appear but before the entire area turns white.

21 DETERRING CARPET BEETLE Your carpet has been treated with an insect resist agent to deter carpet beetle and infestation from moths and other insects. It is important to note the insect resist chemical is embedded in the carpet fibre and needs to be eaten by the insect to have an effect and stop further spreading this will mean fibre loss can occur. This treatment does not stop insects from entering your home. Thorough and regular vacuuming around the skirting boards and under infrequentlymoved furniture will help prevent infestation. 25 YOUR WARRANTIES AT LAW We acknowledge and respect the terms of the New Zealand Consumer Guarantees Act 1993 and Australian Consumer Law Our carpets come with guarantees provided by the Consumer Guarantees Act and Australian Consumer Law 2012 that cannot be excluded. Under Australian Consumer Law you are entitled to a replacement or refund for a major failure and for compensation for any other foreseeable loss or damage. You are also entitled to have the goods repaired or replaced if the goods fail to be of acceptable quality and the failure does not amount to a major failure. A summary of your rights and remedies under the New Zealand Consumer Guarantees Act can be found at the Ministry of Consumer Affairs website at www. consumeraffairs.govt.nz. Further detail on Australian Consumer Law can be found at Your rights under the New Zealand Consumer Guarantees Act or Australian Consumer Law commence from the date of purchase and may run for the life of your carpet. 26 YOUR CAVALIER BREMWORTH WARRANTIES Cavalier Bremworth also provides a number of express warranties (which are set out below) in relation to its carpets. These warranties do not limit or affect your entitlements under New Zealand or Australian consumer laws, including the Consumer Guarantees Act and Australian Consumer Law You may have additional rights under these laws than are provided for in the warranties below. Under your Cavalier Bremworth warranties, should a problem arise and we accept that you have a valid warranty claim under the warranties set out in this booklet, at our discretion, we will either: Repair the carpet; Replace the carpet in the affected area; or Provide a refund for the carpet in the affected area. The extent of the refund will be based on the age of your carpet (i.e. to allow for depreciation) a full explanation of how this is calculated is found under the general terms and conditions on page 29 and

27 In the event of a problem If you have a concern about your Cavalier Bremworth carpet and would like to make a claim under your Cavalier Bremworth warranties (e.g. rather than under the Consumer Guarantees Act or Australian Consumer Law), you should contact the retailer who sold and installed your carpet. They will make an inspection and if unable to remedy the issue, they will lodge a formal request to our Consumer Services team to take this further. 28 WARRANTIES Please refer to the general terms and conditions at the end of these warranties for more details Lifetime warranty against manufacturing defects We warrant your Cavalier Bremworth carpet against all manufacturing defects during the expected lifetime of the carpet, so long as:- The carpet was bought and installed through a Cavalier Bremworth Retailer The carpet has been properly maintained and used for residential purposes in a private household at all times since its original installation. Please note that shading on cut pile carpets does not constitute a manufacturing defect year abrasive wear warranty Your Cavalier Bremworth carpet is designed to last. We warrant that the surface pile of your carpet will not lose more than 10% of its fibre due to abrasive wear within 15 years. Abrasive wear is the wearing away of carpet fibres due to external friction. Please note that abrasive wear does not include matting or crushing of the carpet fibres or any change in appearance caused by soiling, staining or fading.

29 3. Five year insect resist warranty Your Cavalier Bremworth carpet has been treated to deter insect and moth infestation. Should a problem be reported within five years of purchase, we will repair, replace or treat the affected area, providing the carpet has been properly maintained and used for residential purposes in a private household. It is important to note the insect deterrent chemical is embedded in the carpet fibre and needs to be ingested by the insect to have an effect and stop further spreading this will mean some fibre loss can occur. This treatment does not stop insects from entering your home. Thorough and regular vacuuming around the skirting boards and under infrequentlymoved furniture will help prevent infestation. Failure to properly maintain these areas may affect this Cavalier Bremworth warranty, which as a result, could be reduced or voided at Cavalier Bremworth s sole discretion. CAVALIER BREMWORTH 27

30 Environmental certification All Cavalier Bremworth wool carpets carry a high Environmental Certification Scheme (ECS) grading from the Australian Carpet Classification Scheme (ACCS). This is an independent assurance that your carpet has met strict standards across a range of criteria that includes raw materials used in manufacture, product emissions and product stewardship. Having an ECS grading means they also meet the product requirements set out by the Green Building Councils of Australia and New Zealand. 28 Please Note: Permanent shading/watermarking All cut pile carpets, particularly plush pile carpets, will develop lighter or darker patches over time. It is very important that you understand this characteristic before you buy a cut pile carpet and your retailer has an obligation to explain this to you.

31 GENERAL TERMS AND CONDITIONS Depreciation table for refund value If we determine not to repair or replace the affected carpet, we will issue a refund based on the age of your carpet. The age is determined from the date of installation of your carpet by a Cavalier Bremworth retailer. The refund value is based on a new carpet of the same or comparable type made by Cavalier Bremworth. First 3 years 100% Years % Years % Years % Years % Warranties are extended to the original purchaser of the carpet only and are not transferable (e.g. through a sale of your house). The warranty is solely for the use of the carpet in a private residence in accordance with the carpet s rating recommendation/s. The warranty only applies to first grade carpets and is not applicable to carpets sold as seconds. CAVALIER BREMWORTH 29

32 Carpets must be properly installed over a quality underlay in accordance with the Australian and New Zealand Standard AS/NZS-2455 for installation and maintained in accordance with the care recommendations provided. Failure to appropriately install the carpet as per the standards and to maintain the carpet as outlined in accordance with the carpet care recommendations could void all or part of the warranty coverage, at Cavalier Bremworth s discretion. Our warranties do not cover damage resulting from accidents or abuse such as soiling, burning, flooding, cutting and damage caused by pets. Warranties do not cover carpet which has been treated after installation with any topical chemicals such as fungicides, stain resist treatments or cleaning agents which have affected the properties of the carpet. It does not cover damage caused by prolonged or excessive moisture. Warranties do not cover damage to your carpet caused by the failure of the underlay, damage caused by underfloor heating, or from laying carpet over another carpet. Under these warranties, Cavalier Bremworth will not pay consequential or incidental damages, including any loss, expense or damage other than to the carpet itself. 30
