2 Title: Internal clinical examination. Subjects: Nursing, philosophy, religion and ethics, disease pathology and pharmacology. Type of examination: Individual course of clinical studies and a written assignment. Type and content: The examination consists of a preliminary course of clinical studies and a subsequent written assignment. The completion of the clinical studies is a prerequisite for the written assignment. Clinical studies The clinical studies will take place during a maximum of two working days. The aim is that nursing is performed to resemble everyday clinical practice. The clinical counsellor at the clinical placement in the host country selects the patient(s)/citizen(s) for the clinical studies. The student is supervised by a clinical counsellor who can participate in the performance of part of the nursing of the patient/citizen if needed. The head of the department must obtain consent form the involved patients/citizens. Written assignment The starting point of the written assignment is the same patient(s)/citizen(s) as in the clinical studies. The written assignment must not exceed 16,000 characters including spacing. During the drafting of the written assignment, the clinical counsellor from the student s home department offers written counselling. The student forwards the finished assignment to the two examiners: the clinical counsellor and a lecturer from the nursing education in the home country. The assignment is graded as passed/failed. The assignment is forwarded by to the two examiners no later than week 8. The student will receive the results of the evaluation in week 9. 2

3 The clinical studies: Objectives: Independently identify nursing needs, set up goals, perform, evaluate, adjust and document nursing of one/more patient(s)/citizen(s). Contribute to make coherent pathways of nursing and treatment, including collaboration with the patient s network, other staff groups across sectors and institutions. Act ethically responsible and consider the needs of the individual patient/citizen. Manage medicine administration within the framework of the nurse s responsibility and competences, including assignments related to health paedagogics. Content criteria: Planning, performing, evaluating and documenting nursing in collaboration with the selected patient(s)/citizen(s). Manage medicine administration to the selected patient(s)/citizen(s). Reflect on the nursing performed. The written assignment: Objectives: Argue for assessments and interventions in the performed nursing and complex clinical practice including knowledge based on clinical practice, development and research within the subjects included in the examination. Identify and reflect on ethical dilemmas in nursing and power relations in the practicing of nursing. 3

4 Content criteria: In collaboration with the clinical counsellor from the host country the student makes plans on the basis of a practical issue related to complex clinical nursing practice. The written examination includes: A description of the situation including a presentation of the patient/citizen. Arguments for assessments and interventions related to the chosen issue including knowledge based on clinical practice, development and research. Reflection on ethical dilemmas in nursing and power relations in the practicing of nursing in the course of the clinical practice. Applied literature should be stated: a minimum of 150 pages. State a total of 500 pages of literature relevant during the clinical studies and in the current clinical situation. Drafting of the written assignment in Danish in accordance with current formalities for written assignments. Examination: The examination is held between weeks 5 and 9 of the international module 11. The clinical studies are conducted in weeks 5 and 6. The day before the student will be assigned a patient(2)/citizen(s) by the clinical counsellor in the host country. The student hands in the written assignment in week 8. The result of the examination is available in week 9. Counselling: The student is offered two lessons of written counselling during the drafting of the written assignment by a clinical counsellor from the home department in the student s home country. 4

5 Evaluation: The evaluation is made on the basis of the objectives of the examination. The evaluation is internal and is made by two examiners. The examination is comprised by orders of the Danish Ministry of Education: Bekendtgørelse om prøver i erhvervsrettede videregående uddannelse nr af 16/12/2013 and Bekendtgørelse om karakterskala og anden bedømmelse no. 114 of 03/ The examination is graded as passed/failed. The evaluation comprises a specialist and professional assessment on the basis of an overall view of the strengths and weaknesses in relation to meeting the objectives. In order to pass the examination the student s performance must demonstrate the minimally acceptable degree of meeting the objectives of the examination. Enrolment/cancellation: Participation in determined study activity focused on a selected clinical method is a prerequisite for being able to enrol for the examination. The student is automatically enrolled for the examination. It cannot be cancelled. The determined study activity consists of the student mailing a description of the participation in a clinical method to a clinical nurse responsible for education in the home country. Reexamination: First reexamination: A new period of clinical studies is completed before leaving from abroad. The written assignment is made within 4 weeks after the regular examination. Second reexamination: Takes place at the next module 11 and results in a prolongation of the education. Complaints: Complaints about examination results will be processed in accordance with the Danish Ministry of Education order no af 16/12/2013. A complaint must be filed in writing no later than two weeks after the announcement of examination results. The complain must be substantiated. Special conditions: If it is not possible for the student to meet the objective manage medicine administration abroad, this objective must be a part of module 12. 5
