4 FOUNDERS Mary Dauteuil Mary was the DPOA (Designated Power of Attorney for Healthcare) for her best friend, Linda, who was tragically incapacitated by a yet-undiagnosed condition in During that time, it was stressful, time-consuming and difficult to find all the documents that related to her life, which still had to "go on" while she was alive. What bank did she use? Did she pay on-line or by check? Where are the keys to the house? Car? Did she have a safety deposit box somewhere? The questions never ended. Linda was unable to respond to our simple requests and we still do not know the answers to many of the normal" questions. She died within six months. Over the next three years, her family was forced to hire an attorney to get the benefits from her employer's insurance company, to prove they were the rightful recipients, and today, the saga continues. Quickly convinced "It does not have to be this way" Mary crafted a few ideas of how those situations might be made a little easier for families and loved ones. She talked it over with a few Trusted Advisors and thus began the research that would lead to the development of PaperworkLockbox. Mary s 20+ year of business development and operations includes the experience of 3 start-up companies that featured promotional marketing, graphics and retail/wholesale businesses. She led the expansion of a national healthcare corporation to triple digit growth, with more than 5,000 employees. Assembling a superb team of talented professionals is what she considered her greatest strength for each of her ventures. Susan Kast As a military wife, mother, grandmother and educator, Susan moved more than twenty times domestically and internationally. Her important documents have been misplaced, damaged and completely lost in moves. Recreating those documents was an expensive nightmare. In one foreign country, their home was burglarized and all of their documents even their passports were stolen. Local police took them to dig through the city dump to look for them. As her life changed and she moved internationally, she hand-carried or stored documents before going overseas. Each time the same concern where am I going to put them, who can access them and will they be easy to locate? Why can t I have a one-stop secure storage for my documents? As a Texas homeowner, with 4, four-footed furry friends to mother and lots of documents that need safe storage, Susan wanted a way to secure those documents and help others understand the importance of identifying, organizing and keeping those items safe, yet accessible. Susan J. Kast, educator and business leader brings 25 years of new brand development, strategic marketing expertise and direct client partnering. Her focus directs the forward movement of the company for private memberships, corporate partnerships, fund-raising and white labeling projects. Her experience as an on-air, TV personality and interviewer also makes her the perfect spokeswoman for PaperworkLockbox. 4

5 FOUNDERS Trish Daugherty Trish s desire to find a solution came from personal experience, as well. Following her father s death and her mother living alone for many years, Trish helped her mom pack up and move from the Midwest to the West coast to live with her. The move happened quickly and many of mom s personal documents were stored in different boxes as they were packed. The boxes were placed on the list of things to do later. One of the challenges we face is a often a reversal of roles; we become the parents to our parents. Not only is it stressful and overwhelming to see their health and ability to perform their daily tasks decline; we also need to guide them, collect crucial papers, coordinate their care, etc. At some point, we may have to make legal and medical decisions for them. Her mom s dementia set-in before those papers were ever dealt with. It was a nightmare finding them, replacing them and getting the correct ones in order to become legal guardian for her mother and to make the decisions her mom could no longer make. If only there had been a tool to identify, organize and store her important documents. Trish brings more than 15 years of professional design and web development expertise to the team effort to launch PaperworkLockbox.com. Mark Skalla It s always a great idea to be prepared for the future, a mantra that Mark has supported throughout his life. Similar to the other founding team members, situation and circumstance has given Mark a first-hand experience of what life is like without PaperworkLockbox. Over a decade ago, his family struggled with the difficulties when his mother passed on after an auto accident. Admittedly, back in 2000 there were a lot less technical integrations available that offered the type of solutions available today. Since then, Mark has admittedly become a self-proclaimed digital hoarder with regards to his important documents. It s hard to know exactly what should be kept and what should be deleted, so I keep it all.
