WHAT IS BUSINESS INTELLIGENCE The, processes, and a good part of the technological skills covered in the concept of Business Intelligence belong to the scope of the system company information. In order to clarify the concept of Information management we can use the following list of : Acquisition of data; Data processing in order to produce information; Archiving of raw data and information; Transmission of data and information; Presentation of data and information Pag. 1 di 5 FS
Pag. 2 di 5
The operations carried out by the information system can be classified through the pyramid of Anthony, according to the needs arising from the specific of the business organization. Strategical Top management Tactical Functional management Operational Excecutive staff The strategic consist in defining business objectives and corporate policies to achieve them (e.g. choice of markets, choice of products). The tactical activitites take place in the effective and efficient allocation of corporate resources in order to achieve the objectives set by the management strategy, in addition to monitoring the achievement of these objectives (e.g. budget, production planning). The Operational, which represent the current operations (order management, inventory, invoicing...). Pag. 3 di 5
Strategical KMS BI Tactical Operational ERP SCM CRM KMS. Knowledge Management System. These are the set of software tools for searching, identifying and structuring all the information regarding the of the company. An example is detectable in the document management system that allow you to create, organize, and view real electronic libraries consist of business documents. BI. Business Intelligence. It is the "set of software tools that provide decision support by transforming corporate data into information." ERP. Enterprise Resource Planning. These software applications are management tools that virtually affect all areas of the business, from order management to invoicing, from payroll to budget, from payments to accounts. SCM. Supply Chain Management. The software in this category manage the supply chain (both related to the purchase then to sales), speeding the transmission of purchase orders, optimizing inventories, defining production plans based on demand and monitoring delivery processes. CRM. The software for Customer Relationship Management support contact with the customer and provide tools for the management of sales, marketing campaigns and customer service. Pag. 4 di 5
THE VALUE OF BUSINESS INTELLIGENCE There is definitely a correlation between the effective use of BI and the increase corporate performance, but not enough to ensure access to data to improve margins. The BI prevents people who are part of every level business to worry about the data retrieval and about processing and conserving them; it allows them to access the data, analyze them, and interact with them in order to derive the information for managing the entire company or part of it, improving the efficiency (and thus performance). It is obvious that without people who interpret correctly the information, taking the right decisions, BI loses all its positive value. The creation of a BI system and its use depends more on creativity and the corporate culture of information that on technology. It is noted often the tendency of companies to be guided by technology in the design of BI system. It is the logic of the business and the requirements analysts which must determine the design and the implementation of the system. The technology must be at the service of BI, must not be a bond and cannot impose a constraint and design choices of the system. HOW TO USE BUSINESS INTELLIGENCE The task of management is to define the objectives and the subsequent control of their achievement. The great value of Business Intelligence, however, lies in the possibility to further analyze and identify what are the causes that led to the positive or negative performance of certain measures. By supporting the analysis with the simulation of possible future scenarios, management gets all the necessary information to make a decision and to act in an effective and timely manner. Every project has specific characteristics, and IDRA S.r.l. aims at its customization based on your specific needs. HOW? WHY? WHAT HAPPENS IF ACT! Business metrics Detailed analysis Forecast Decisions! Pag. 5 di 5
