TECHNOLOGY// REFERENCE MAXIMUM PROTECTION PLUS PERFORMANCE PRIMALOFT ONE PrimaLoft ONE is the highest performing insulation on the market for warmth, water resistance, softness and compressibility. PrimaLoft ONE is an ultra-fine microfiber insulation that is as warm, soft and lightweight, and is warmer wet or dry than all other insulations. PRIMALOFT ECO INSULATION PrimaLoft Eco uses fibers made from a minimum of 50 percent recycled materials in combination with standard PrimaLoft fibers to create a high loft, performance insulation. It is warm, lightweight and water resistant, with superior softness. PrimaLoft Eco fibers are produced from postconsumer products (e.g., plastic bottles) and postindustrial waste. At the same time, they are still subject to the rigorous test standards and specifications befitting the exceptional tradition of PrimaLoft. RECCO Fact: A person buried in an avalanche has close to a 90 percent chance of survival if uncovered within 15 minutes. Beyond the 30-minute mark, the victim has less than a 50 percent chance (source: Colorado Avalanche Information Center). RECCO is an electronic avalanche rescue system that consists of a small, nearly weightless transponder, more easily detected by a mountain search-and-rescue team. When a rescue team arrives at an avalanche site, the members scour it with detectors. A returned signal from a RECCO transponder provides a precise bearing on the buried individual. RECCO transponders appear on many The North Face snow-sports products, including jackets and pants. FLASHDRY As a leader in the outdoor industry, The North Face has developed innovative, proprietary fabrics that incorporate microporous particles to improve moisture management and temperature regulation during outdoor activity. FlashDry fabrics feature a microporous particle additive that accelerates the removal of moisture from the skin and speeds evaporative drying. FlashDry enables the user to stay drier, more comfortable and out performing longer in a wide range of weather conditions and environments. FlashDry doesn t add weight or bulk and never washes or wears out. The premier products in this collection are designed with best-in-class FlashDry technology to offer maximum performance and comfort. REFERENCE //TECHNOLOGY MAXIMUM PROTECTION PLUS PERFORMANCE GOOSE DOWN INSULATION The North Face uses only the highest-quality goose down in all of its products. Each lot of down is thoroughly tested at three stages of production for loftiness, moisture resistance and ability to regain loft after compression. The fill power of goose down is an indicator of two important features: the warmth-to-weight ratio and compressibility, both critical to the user s warmth and comfort. True fill power is measured by placing one ounce of down in a graduated cylinder and measuring the volume the down occupies in cubic inches. The North Face products are insulated with exclusive, high-fill-power down ranging from 550 fill to 900 fill, which represents the highest-quality down commercially available. HEATSEEKER Heatseeker Eco is a high-performing insulation made of 100% recycled polyester fiber. Highly compressible with a great warmth-to-weight ratio, it s extremely resilient, water repellent, and hypo-allergenic. Made entirely from recycled materials, Heatseeker Eco is a carbon-friendly choice for the environment. At the same time, it is still subject to the rigorous test standards and specifications befitting the exceptional tradition of Heatseeker. DWR FINISH Durable Water Repellent (DWR) finishes on fabrics and zippers give long life to waterproof technologies. The addition of an enhanced hydrophobic treatment enables DWR to adhere to materials for an extended lifetime. 4 FALL 2013 / THE NORTH FACE

To prepare for your next side-country or backcountry adventure, visit thenorthface. com/knowboundaries for the latest avalanche conditions, educational videos, tips from athletes, information on snow-safety training and more. thenorthface.com/knowboundaries MAP/COMPASS: Avalanches aren t the only hazard; getting lost in the backcountry is serious. FOOD/WATER: Energy and hydration are crucial; bring extra just in case. FIRST AID KIT: Be prepared for any emergency; minor issues can have major consequences if left untreated. SHOVEL/PROBE: A beacon will be of little help without a means to locate and dig. FIRE: This is for basic life-saving warmth and to signal search and rescue. AVALANCHE BEACON: This is essential to locate someone or to be located; make sure everyone has one and knows how to use it. MULTI-USE TOOL: It lets you fix bindings, open cans do just about anything. EMERGENCY BLANKET: Hypothermia and frostbite are easily avoidable; this small, lightweight essential could make all the difference. 10 FALL 2013 / THE NORTH FACE

TECHNOLOGY// REFERENCE FLASHDRY As a leader in the outdoor industry, The North Face has developed innovative, proprietary fabrics that incorporate microporous particles to improve moisture management and temperature regulation during outdoor activity. FLASHDRY FIBER TECHNOLOGY 1 1 1 Evaporated moisture 5 2 Particle fiber 4 3 3 Air channels 4 Skin surface 5 Liquid moisture FlashDry fiber technology incorporates permanently embedded microporous particles at the fiber level, which increase fiber surface area. High surface area fibers in conjunction with fabric construction accelerate evaporative cooling and drying. SHELL TECHNOLOGIES 4 GORE-TEX SHELL GORE-TEX Shells are designed to provide superior comfort and durable waterproof protection for a wide range of outdoor activities. The GORE-TEX revolutionary patented membrane technology is specifically engineered to form an impenetrable barrier against wind and water while maintaining breathability. GORE-TEX Shell fabric is used in a two-layer construction for a lighter and softer feel and in a three-layer construction for a more heavyduty alternative. GORE-TEX PRO The newest generation of GORE-TEX Pro offers improved durability, enhanced waterproof and windproof performance, and up to a 28 percent increase in breathability when compared with the previous generation of the product. GORE-TEX Pro is designed to perform at an elite level in the most difficult conditions in order to meet the demands of outdoor professionals. GORE-TEX Pro incorporates an advanced waterproof membrane to provide maximum breathability and durability, allowing the user to perform longer in harsh, unpredictable conditions. 1 2 3 INSULATION TECHNOLOGIES GOOSE DOWN INSULATION The North Face uses only the highest-quality goose down in all of its products. Despite the widespread use of duck down in the industry due to its lower cost, The North Face uses only the highest quality goose down in its insulated products. The fill power and insulating performance of down is dependent on the size of its filament clusters, and because goose down offers larger clusters than duck down, higher fill powers can be achieved with goose down. Higher fill power provides higher loft, superior insulation, lighter weight and greater durable resiliency. And because duck down can have more natural oils than goose down, duck down generally retains a strong odor that can never be fully removed. PRIMALOFT ONE INSULATION PrimaLoft One is a patented ultra-fine microfiber blend that is incredibly soft, lightweight and water repellent. PrimaLoft One synthetic insulation absorbs three times less water, is 15 percent warmer when dry and is 24 percent warmer when wet than the closest competitive insulation. In addition to these impressive thermal properties, PrimaLoft One is lightweight, with a down-like softness that adds comfort and appeal. WATER-RESISTANT-DOWN Down is the warmest, lightest and most compressible insulation available, but when it gets wet, down clumps, stops insulating and takes a long time to dry. Water-resistant down is a natural down insulation enhanced with a hydrophobic finish that keeps the down plumes from becoming saturated with moisture and losing their insulation value. Water-resistant down stays drier longer and dries faster than untreated down, improving its performance and versatility in a wider range of weather conditions. approved process compared to untreated down GORE WINDSTOPPER SOFT SHELL FABRIC Totally windproof, water-resistant and very breathable, GORE WINDSTOPPER Soft Shell garments combine the reliable protection of a shell with the comfort of a mid-layer. These garments keep the enthusiast comfortable without the need for bulky, restricting layers, making them ideal for most active pursuits and weather conditions. GORE WINDSTOPPER Soft Shell garments are made with unique, soft, quiet stretch fabrics that are highly abrasion resistant and allow for a wide range of motion. As these garments are very breathable, wearers can be incredibly active and remain comfortable. THE NORTH FACE / FALL 2013 11

REFERENCE //TECHNOLOGY TECHNICAL FEATURES CLIP-IN INTEGRATION On those deep powder days when face shots and cliff drops are de rigueur, it s inevitable for snow to make its way under your jacket and down the back of your pants. The solution is clip-in integration, which enables you to fasten together the jacket s powder skirt and pants with a system of clips to seal out the snow and keep yourself dry and warm. Clip-in integration is a simple, easy-to-use feature that significantly increases the protection and versatility of snowsports outerwear. DWR FINISH Durable water repellent (DWR) finish on fabrics and zips give long life to waterproof technologies. The addition of an enhanced hydrophobic treatment enables DWR to adhere to materials for an extended lifetime. HELMET COMPATIBILITY Sometimes pulling a jacket s hood over a helmet is like trying to squeeze a grapefruit into a sandwich bag. For that reason, The North Face has developed a unique hood system that you can wear comfortably with or without a helmet. The new hood fit will accommodate several helmet sizes while still allowing you to fully rotate your head without unnecessary pulling or pressure. It also allows maximum peripheral vision a crucial feature while heading downhill. INSULATED PHONE POCKET The dedicated cell phone pocket is constructed with a moisture-blocking soft shell fabric and is insulated with fleece to prolong battery life. The pocket s strategic placement enables you to quickly and easily access your phone while wearing a pack. PIT-ZIPS Pit-zips allow body heat to dissipate from your body s core and underarms, providing increased ventilation that keeps you cooler and more comfortable. Our pit-zips have protective double flaps to keep out moisture. RADIO-HOLDER POCKET The left front chest pocket features a dedicated elastic loop to keep your radio secure and easy to reach. The pocket s strategic placement enables you to quickly and easily access your radio while wearing a pack. RECCO Fact: A person buried in an avalanche has close to a 90 percent chance of survival if uncovered within 15 minutes. Beyond the 30-minute mark, however, the victim has less than a 50 percent chance (source: Colorado Avalanche Information Center). When a rescue team arrives at an avalanche site, the members scour it with detectors. A returned signal from a RECCO transponder provides a precise bearing on the buried individual. RECCO transponders appear on many of The North Face snowsports products, including jackets and pants. THUMB-LOOP CUFFS All Steep Series jackets now feature integrated thumb-loop cuffs comfortable, elastic inner cuffs that fit over the thumb to keep the sleeve in place and snow out. THERMO3D The North Face Thermo3D represents the future of dynamic temperature regulation. Validated through in-field scientific research and testing, Thermo3D integrates best-in-class fabric and insulation technologies with hybrid fabrications based on the unique, activity-specific thermal zones of men and women. Thermo3D optimizes warmth, ventilation and moisture management to increase performance and comfort in winter sports. YKK AQUAGUARD VISLON ZIPPER The YKK Aquaguard VISLON zipper with advanced closure technology features a revolutionary new tooth design integrated with a polyurethane laminated tape that provides enhanced water repellency versus coil or standard individual element zippers. LOT LIFT SYSTEM Don t get dragged down. Unfortunately, a contemporary, relaxed fit in outerwear can cause the pant cuff to drag on the ground, leading to fraying, tearing and the gathering of snow. Get your pants off the ground with the Lot Lift System, an innovative feature that enables you to conveniently pull up the rear portion of your pant cuff while walking, which eliminates drag and damage and increases the life span of the pant. 12 FALL 2013 / THE NORTH FACE

TECHNOLOGY// REFERENCE HYVENT TECHNOLOGIES HEATSEEKER INSULATION This waterproof, breathable technology utilizes a polyurethane (PU) coating that consists of a tri-component, multi-layer formula for waterproof protection, moisture permeability and durability. BREATHABILITY: 750 800 g/m 2 /24 hrs avg (MVTR) Upright Cup WATERPROOF RATING: 25 PSI minimum after 20 launderings This proprietary synthetic insulation from The North Face offers a great warmth-to-weight ratio, is highly compressible and is extremely durable, making it ideal for cold-weather products that require warmth at minimal bulk. PRIMALOFT ECO PrimaLoft Eco uses fibers made from a minimum 50 percent recycled materials in combination with standard PrimaLoft fibers to create a high loft performance insulation. It is warm, lightweight and water resistant with superior softness. PrimaLoft Eco fibers are produced from post-consumer products (e.g., plastic bottles) and post-industrial waste. Nonetheless, they are still subject to the rigorous test standards and specifications befitting the exceptional tradition of PrimaLoft quality. THE POWER OF A THREE-ZIP-IN SYSTEM The North Face Triclimate jackets deliver ultimate versatility and performance in winter conditions. In essence, they manage to be all things to all snowsports athletes and cover a wide range of temperatures, conditions and activity levels. Triclimate integrates an innovative zip-in system that provides three high-performance jackets in one to meet the demands of any winter day: When it s cold and snowy, wear the outer shell jacket combined with the liner jacket for increased insulation and protection.
