Through the Chicago Home Safety Partnership, a Neighborhood Housing Services, Inc. construction specialist or independent certified home inspector can check your electrical, heating, and safety systems. They can identify dangerous conditions and explain to you any hazards in your home. Are you worried that you might have Bad wiring? A faulty heating system? Improperly hooked up appliances? Then call the Chicago Home Safety Partnership at 1-800-482-4090 for a free Home Safety Evaluation. The evaluation is free and confidential thanks to grants from local insurance companies. You have no obligation to purchase or apply for anything. Of course, we recommend that you eventually make repairs or correct hazardous conditions we find. This is your choice. Think you can't afford home safety repairs? The Chicago Home Safety Loan Fund is for you. Low-cost loans are available for eligible homeowners who want to make and keep their homes safe from fire and other hazards. Loans are available to upgrade or replace electrical, heating, and safety systems. Do you have Space heaters that you want to replace with a new heating system? An electrical system that needs upgrading? Inadequate fire exits or poor exterior lighting? Working smoke and carbon monoxide detectors? Are you eligible for a Chicago Home Safety Loan? Loans are available for owner-occupants in single-family homes and buildings with up to four units in Chicago neighborhoods with the highest fire losses. Borrowers must be at or below 120% of area median income. Loans range from $1,000 to $20,000. The interest rate is 5 percent. The maximum loan term is 15 years.
