Current VA Education Programs The Post-9/11 GI Bill - Chapter 33, sections 3301-3324, of Title 38, U.S. Code: Is a new educational assistance program, effective August 1, 2009, which provides financial support for education and housing to individuals with at least 90 days of aggregate service on or after September 11, 2001, or individuals discharged with a service-connected disability after 30 days. Montgomery GI Bill Active Duty Educational Assistance Program (MGIB-AD) - Chapter 30 of Title 38, U.S. Code: Provides educational assistance to persons who served on active duty in the Armed Forces. Montgomery GI Bill Selected Reserve Educational Assistance Program (MGIB-SR) - Chapter 1606 of Title 10, U.S. Code: Provides educational assistance to members of the Selected Reserve or the Ready Reserve of any of the reserve components of the Armed Forces. Survivors and Dependents Educational Assistance (DEA): Is a monetary educational benefit under Chapter 35 of Title 38, U.S. Code, and is payable to eligible dependents and survivors of Veterans. Post-Vietnam Era Veterans Education Assistance Program (VEAP) - Chapter 32 of Title 38, U.S. Code: Is a contributory educational assistance program for Post-Vietnam Era Veterans. Reserve Educational Assistance Program (REAP) - Chapter 1607 of Title 10, U.S. Code: Provides educational assistance to members of the Guard and Reserves who serve on active duty in support of a contingency operation under federal authority on or after September 11, 2001. Veterans Retraining Assistance Program (VRAP): Offers 12 months of training assistance for Veterans who: (1) are at least 35 but not more than 60 years old; (2) are unemployed on the date of application; (3) received an other than dishonorable discharge; (4) are not eligible for any other VA education benefit program; (5) are not in receipt of VA compensation due to unemployability; (6)are not enrolled in a federal or state job training program.
