His father shared his 30 years of surgical experience with Dr. McRoberts and has continued to be available as a guide and mentor. Since graduating medical school, Dr. McRoberts has and will remain dedicated to the pursuit of the best surgical care of the patients served by Portneuf Surgical Specialists. Dr. McRoberts is board certified in General Surgery, a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, and co-founder of Portneuf Surgical Specialists. Katie Fritz, MD is a product of the west having grown up on a ranch in Chinook, Montana, a small town in North Central Montana. After graduating high school, she left the small town with a hope of returning to the northwest after completing medical school. Portneuf Medical Center fulfilled that dream. It was close to Montana, but more importantly, she was attracted to the vision for PMC to be the tertiary referral center in the region; the place in southeast Idaho to go for surgery. Dr. Fritz is a board certified. She attended Creighton University Medical School in Omaha, Nebraska and completed residency training at Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas, Texas. She has special interest and expertise in general surgery and an interest in the treatment of thyroid conditions, colon cancer, trauma and emergency surgery, and breast surgery. Dr. Fritz is a gourmet cook who likes to try new recipes and discover new flavors. She enjoys the outdoors and has rediscovered the joy of the changing seasons since moving to Pocatello. Portneuf Surgical Specialists is a group of dedicated, highly-trained, and sub-specialized surgeons capable of providing comprehensive surgical services from pediatrics to geriatrics and from oncology to trauma, says Dr. Fritz. We offer a comprehensive, integrated plan of care for each patient, taking into account his or her unique needs and health situation. When it comes to our patients and our practice, we are constantly learning and advancing. We are a team and we are all in it together striving to provide the best for all patients. Alian Garay, MD understands all the complex issues that surround weight related health concerns. In fact, with his oversight and vision, PMC s Weight Management Institute has developed into a highly respected, interdisciplinary resource for patients throughout southeast Idaho. Innovations in minimally invasive surgery, caring support of the Weight Management Institute s team and PMC s new state-of-theart surgical facility designed for the care of bariatric patients greatly enhances a patient s success, recovery time, and well-being. Dr. Garay is certified by the American Board of Surgery and is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. He is the only board certified, fellowship trained bariatric surgeon in southeast Idaho and offers the gastric bypass and gastric sleeve. Prior to medical school, Dr. Garay served in the US Navy. He then went on to attend medical school at the University of Texas at Houston, completed his surgical residency at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center in Denver, Colorado and finished his fellowship training at Legacy Health Systems in Portland, Oregon. After his residency in the Intermountain west, Dr. Garay, his wife, and his two daughters wanted to stay in the area. He enjoys mountain biking, hiking, camping, and skiing. Pocatello offered everything they were looking for including good practice with great partners, outdoor activities, smaller and safer community with good schools and ideal weather. As a group of surgeons we collaborate and help, guide and assist each other without hesitation, says Dr. Garay. This fosters camaraderie and certainly improves the quality of care we provide to our patients. He then went on to attend medical school at Oregon Health and Sciences University in Portland, Oregon. Afterwards, he completed residency training at the University of Colorado in Denver, Colorado. While in his youth, Dr. Marshall s mother battled ulcerative colitis; she was in and out of hospitals frequently. Surgical intervention brought his mother relief from the constant pain. These experiences left a lasting impression on Dr. Marshall. In choosing a career in medicine, he knew he wanted to have the skills necessary to effectively care for others and help them find relief. Dr. Gregg Marshall is a board certified. He also has special interest and expertise in the surgical treatment of various cancers. Dr. Marshall met and married his wife Bobbi while they were attending Utah State University. They are the proud parents of three boys, two girls, and another baby soon to arrive in February 2015.
