Chairs and Deans Argos Dashboards Guide The following guide is provided to assist you in running and understanding the information that the dashboard in Argos returns. The dashboard located through the Argos reporting tool which can be accessed here: https://it.uca.edu/banner/. The dashboards will give declared major, student semester credit hour (SSCH) production, and degrees awarded information based on Arkansas Department of Higher Education (ADHE) year and department. I. Locating and Accessing the Dashboard To locate the report navigate to Argos from either https://it.uca.edu/banner/ or my.uca.edu. From https://it.uca.edu/banner/ click the Argos Production hyperlink as highlighted below and then log in. Once in Argos, the report will be at UCA.Administration.Institutional Research.Dashboards.Majors & SSCH by Department. You can put the above address into the box highlighted below or navigate through the folder hierarchy to find the report. This guide will use images from the Argos program and that is the program that we encourage you to use but an online web viewer can be used through my.uca.edu. The guide can be used interchangeably in most cases. From my.uca.edu go to the My Work tab. In the Quick Links drop down, select the Argos option to be taken to the Argos Webviewer. Once you ve found the report click on it and you ll be presented with the below screen. Clicking the Run Dashboard button will bring up the dashboard. II. Running Dashboard After clicking the Run Dashboard button, a menu will appear giving the choice to proceed to the Majors, Degrees Awarded, SSCH Fiscal Year, and SSCH Fall sections of the report. All sections run off the same two variables, ADHE year and department. The process for running the report for each section is the same and is shown below. ADHE years correspond closely with fiscal years. The year goes from Summer II to Summer I. For example, ADHE year 2015 includes: Summer II 2014, Fall 2014, Spring 2015 and Summer I 2015. 1.) Use this dropdown to select the ADHE year. 3.) Click the Run Query button to run the dashboard. 2.) Use this dropdown to select department, college or unit. III. Interpreting the Dashboard A. Majors Once you run the Majors report, it displays the below results. The top of the report consists of tables and graphs as shown below. The selected year declared majors by fall and spring term. Refer to the purple text to determine the term you are looking at. A bar graph comparing fall and spring majors. A five year history of the declared majors each fall. A bar graph of the five year history. At the bottom of the report you ll find an OLAP cube that allow for additional filtering. Below you ll find and explanation of how an OLAP works and how to filter it. You can filter variables with by clicking the dropdown. In this example, the Program variable has been selected by clicking this dropdown. When the drop down is red that means the data is being filtered. The Dimension Editor box will appear after the dropdown is selected. This is where variables can be filtered. In this example the BA-Mathematics and BS-Mathematics have been selected. Click the checkbox to filter a variable, a green check is on, a red x is off, and a blue x only appears in totals. Once you are done filtering click the green check mark here to save your filters or click the red X to cancel. http://uca.edu/ir/argos-dashboards/ Page 6
B. SSCH Fiscal Year This dashboard s results are only presented in an OLAP cube but is run the same as the Majors section was. This report contains the SSCH generated over a fiscal year. Refer to the purple text for what year the data you are looking at is from. The table breaks SSCH down by course level. Totals for the table appear in the orange cells. The below example shows how you can select which courses appear in the OLAP cube. By default all course are selected. To filter just adjust which courses have green checks and which have red Xs. In this example the Course variable has been selected by clicking here. You can use the filter the Course variable to look at one or any number of courses. To quickly select or deselect all courses use these two buttons. http://uca.edu/ir/argos-dashboards/ Page 7
You can also drag and drop different variables from one part of the report to another. Below we moved the Course variables from the Available Dimensions to the rows below Level. This allows us to see each course for each term and the SSCH generated by that course. After dragging the Course variable below Level the courses appear here. You can click the + symbol to drill down to the courses. At the bottom is an OLAP cube that contains the year you selected and the previous four years. Term can be added by dragging this tab to the green columns bar or you can filter in its current place by clicking the drop down. The only diffence in this OLAP cube is the inclusion of the last four years. http://uca.edu/ir/argos-dashboards/ Page 8
C. SSCH Fall This page is similar to SSCH Fiscal Year but only contains data for the fall term. The first part of this page is an OLAP cube of the term selected and the previous four years fall term and after that a bar graph of SSCH broken down by course level. The OLAP cube works the same as those in SSCH Fiscal Year but only provides fall on-schedule data. These three bar graphs break down SSCH by level. http://uca.edu/ir/argos-dashboards/ Page 9
D. Degrees Awarded After running the report as you would the other two the data is represented with a table, graph and OLAP cube. Refer to the purple text for what term the data you are looking at is from. A five year history of the degrees awarded each ADHE year. A bar graph of the five year history. An OLAP cube of the data which can be filtered like the OLAP cube from the Majors section. IV. Extracting OLAP results as Excel files Once you ve run a report and filtered or added statistics you can extract the data the OLAP is displaying as an excel file to further manipulate it or turn add it to a report. Below is an example on how to extract as an excel file, the screen used is SSCH Fiscal Year. Simply right click anywhere on the OLAP cube and then click the first option Export to Excel (OLE). This should automatically open an excel document with the information The Excel document will contain what is currently shown in the OLAP, including selected filters. The data will be brought in exactly as it is displayed in the OLAP cube in the dashboard, as shown below. You can manipulate it further in Excel as needed.
