The NILS is a community-based program committed to addressing the needs of low-income communities by offering applicants on low-incomes, loans at NO Interest of up to $1,200 (Newstart recipients only eligible for up to $600) to be repaid over a period of not greater than 18 months. The program is designed to enable people to purchase an essential household item like a fridge, washing machine, TV, computer or furniture. If you would like to apply for a NILS loan please gather the enclosed listed documents prior to booking your appointment. If you experience any difficulties collecting these documents, please call us prior to your appointment and we will help. Appointments take about 45 minutes. Your Rights and Responsibilities Client Reference No: People wishing to use the No Interest Loan Scheme (NILS) have the right to expect that every effort will be made to ensure their rights are upheld. Similarly, both the client and the organisation have responsibilities to each other. You have a Right to: 1. Be treated fairly and with respect regardless of your personal circumstances and beliefs. 2. Be informed about the program s eligibility criteria. 3. Be informed about the loan assessment processes. 4. Receive support and referrals to a financial counselor if applicable. 5. Be informed about the responsibilities to fulfill the loan requirements. 6. Be informed about how client information is recorded and who will have access to this information: a) Information gathered at the initial enquiry stage will be kept for up to 12 months b) Information gathered during the Loan Interview will be kept for seven years c) All information will be kept in a secure loan administration database and/or in a locked and secure filing cabinet 7. Be provided with information about how to make a complaint and have the complaint dealt with fairly and promptly without retribution. 8. Access your personal file after the NILS Loan Assessment Committee has received a request in writing. 9. If available and necessary, access an interpreter, advocate, or other support person to assist with the NILS application. Your Responsibilities are to: 1. Act in a manner that respects the rights of other clients and staff of the organization. 2. Ensure all information provided for the purpose of the loan enquiry and interview is true and correct, and that no false or misleading information is given at any time. 3. Make regular repayments as stated in the Loan Agreement. 4. Contact if you are experiencing difficulties or unable to make a repayment/s. 5. Advise if a replacement repayment book is required, if applicable. 6. Advise if Centrepay is no longer available due to changes in circumstances and arrange for a repayment book. 7. Secondary Contact Details As part of the NILS application process, you will need to provide the contact details of two people who are happy to be contacted by us in the event that we are unable to get in contact with you ourselves. This might be due to you having moved house or changed a phone number etc. No information will be provided to these contacts other than where we are calling from and to ask them to provide us with your current [new] contact details and/or to pass a message to you to get in contact with us here at. You will have to provide the following information for each of your contacts, and unfortunately, without the contacts information your application will not be able to be submitted to the committee for approval consideration.
