1 STOCKPORT CREDIT UNION LTD First House, 367 Brinnington Road, Stockport, SK5 6EN Tel No: LOAN APPLICATION - IMPORTANT INFORMATION IF THIS IS YOUR FIRST LOAN, PLEASE PROVIDE 3 MONTHS RECENT BANK OR POST OFFICE CARD STATEMENTS WITH YOUR APPLICATION FORM Before completing a Loan Application Form please read the following and sign and date that you have read the document. The document should then be returned together with the completed Loan Application Form. Please do not commit yourself to spending money based on a Loan Application until such time as the application has been processed. The member must be aged 18 or over. All information given will be kept in the strictest confidence All loan applications shall be made in writing on an official form and shall be accompanied by the member s passbook. Loan forms must be filled in accurately and honestly While repaying any loan, members are required to continue their savings relationship with the credit union at a minimum of 1 per week or 5 per month. For a first loan, members must have saved regularly over a period of 10 out of the last 13 weeks and may apply to borrow up to twice the amount saved as long as the unsecured amount over and above the share value does not exceed 1,000. First loans must normally be repaid in full and within one year before applying for a second loan. On second and subsequent loans members may apply to borrow up to three times the amount saved, as long as the amount over and above the share value does not exceed 7,500. Second and subsequent loans will be for a maximum repayment period of 3 years depending on the purpose of the loan. Loans for annual expenses should be paid within one year (including Christmas expenses) Second and subsequent loans do not need to be repaid in full before reapplying. However, top-up (additional) loans cannot be applied for within 3 months of the last loan, except in exceptional circumstances, which will be considered on an individual basis. Depending on the amount of the loan and the frequency of previous loans, members may be given a time limit for when they can apply for their next loan. When considering a time limit, the Credit Committee will consider the member s history with the Credit Union, particularly if the member has had difficulty repaying a loan and/or has not made regular loan repayments. If a member s current loan is in arrears, a new loan cannot be considered until the arrears have been cleared and a regular savings pattern resumed. If the current loan has been renegotiated for a lower amount, it will normally be necessary to repay the loan in full before applying for an additional loan, unless the member has resumed repayments at the original amount over a 3 month period. The Credit Committee reserves the right to reduce the unsecured part of the loan and thus reduce the risk to the Credit Union. The Credit Committee has the discretion to make emergency loans to members in distress. If this is your first loan you will need to provide three months recent bank or Post Office card statements. The Credit Committee reserves the right to request proof of income or bank statements for any loan. If a loan is agreed payment can be made by faster payment to a bank account or by a crossed cheque payable to a named payee or by a cheque that can be cashed at a named Post Office (maximum 1000) or the Co-op Bank. Loans will take between 7 and 10 working days to be processed and 4 weeks at Christmas and holiday times. If a loan is refused members will be contacted as soon as possible. In the event of a loan being refused, you have the right to appeal in writing to the Board of Directors. In the case of default, the Credit Union will take all necessary action to recover the debt and information about the loan may be passed on to the DWP for their consideration of deductions from any benefits that you are or will become entitled to. Stockport Credit Union uses data from a Credit Reference Agency to help make a loan decision. However, a poor credit history does not mean that we automatically refuse your application. We also take into account your savings record and repayment history with ourselves. We also share repayment data with the Credit Reference Agency.
