Before Moving Day Before the move itsef you wi need to get certain jobs done. A remova companies are different in the way they carry out a move. At GB Liners we make it cear from the start how we are going to work, so you know where you stand. Fix the date for the move as far ahead as possibe. Make sure you know the date and time for which competion has been fixed for both your sae and your purchase as the remover wi have to move you out of your existing home before competion on the sae and cannot move you into your new home unti competion has taken pace on that property. Pass this information on to the removers immediatey. If you ve decided to move with us and have tod us when you wi be abe to confirm the date, we wi make a to be confirmed booking. If someone ese then wants to make a firm booking for the same day, we wi give you first refusa. Our contract conditions detai the charges payabe if a firm booking is canceed or postponed. Pease give us as much notice as possibe if booking a popuar day, and keep us informed on how your sae and purchase are going, so we can identify any probems in advance. If you are moving your possessions into or out of storage, consider timing the move for a day or two before, or after the property exchange. You might aso get a better price if you move off peak. Confirm your teephone booking in writing by competing the acceptance form and sending it to the remover. The Company wi usuay confirm the detais in writing. Check carefuy to make sure the detais are correct. As with most simiar services, the removers wi ask for payment in advance so ensure you have sufficient funds avaiabe. Let everybody ese know you are moving. Contact your gas, eectricity, teephone and water suppiers; oca authorities for counci tax and sateite TV or cabe companies. Aso inform your home contents and motor insurers, credit card companies, banks, buiding societies and other financia service providers. Notify DVLA about your change of address and arrange to have your post re-directed. Te a your friends and famiy, cance the mik, newspapers and any other home deivery services. GB Liners confirm a firm bookings in writing, and, where time aows, we aso confirm provisiona bookings in writing - incuding the basis on which they have been taken. GB Liners charges are payabe when a firm booking is taken, uness it is to be charged to an estabished account, or specia arrangements have been confirmed in writing. Payment by debit card is preferabe and without surcharge. Charges to Mastercard and Visa credit cards (for exampe) carry a surcharge. GB Liners wi suppy you with Change of Address cards. If parking is going to be a probem and parking permits or permission is required, we wi arrange this and we wi have incuded the cost in the quote (provided we are tod at the enquiry stage). 2

If it becomes cear that you cannot manage some of the tasks then te the mover because they may be abe to do it for an extra charge. Arrange to have fittings such as cookers, gas fires, washing machines and eectrica fittings disconnected ready for moving, as moving staff are not aowed to interfere with service connections. Any fridge, washing machine and other domestic appiance that is pumbed in wi need to be unpumbed by a professiona prior to the move. Your suppier wi te you about this and wi probaby be abe to arrange the work for you. Fridges and freezers shoud be defrosted and dried, and excess water removed from dishwashers and automatic washing machines. If TV aerias or sateite dishes are going they shoud be taken down and dismanted in advance. GB Liners Remova Specification Form specifies the work we wi do, and what wi be down to you. The form detais the amount of materias we wi suppy for packing - you wi need to arrange for this to be deivered or coected in good time. If you can see you re going to be short, et us know. A sma amount of extra materia is carried on our vans, but we wi not be abe to carry out any work which is not specified on the Remova Specification Form - if time is not avaiabe, if we don t have the extra materias or if no charge has been agreed with the office. Where you have undertaken to carry out a the packing, our confirmation pack wi incude detaied hints to hep you through the packing process. Where a washing machine, dishwasher or fridge has not been unpumbed, GB Liners staff wi ony undertake this work providing we are hed harmess against any caim as a resut of eaky pipework, vaves, etc. If you have agreed to remove goods from the oft pease do so in advance of your moving day. GB Liners Remova Specification Form indicates who wi be responsibe for moving goods from the oft i.e. GB Liners or the customer. Due to heath and safety reguations our staff can ony enter ofts that are safey boarded and it; with a suitabe adder in pace. If you re moving carpets, you wi need to arrange for a fitter. Remember that it won t be possibe to ay a carpet whie furniture is being moved into the room. Simiar probems wi arise if buiders, carpenters, painters or eectricians are sti working in the property - a this wi ideay have been done before the movers arrive. Where system or kit furniture is being moved, prepare it for moving. Remember that this sort of furniture is not aways designed for remova and reassemby. GB Liners strongy advise against the move taking pace whie workmen from other trades are sti present. A GB Liners Moving Consutant wi be peased to advise you on system furniture and, where specified on the Remova Specification Form or at the quotation stage, the staff wi dismante and reassembe your furniture and fittings. We cannot, however, accept responsibiity for probems that may be caused (such as oose joints or insecure fixings) because the design of the item does not aow reassemby. 3
Before Moving Day continued If you have agreed to take down curtains, sheves or dismante furniture, get the majority of this work done before moving day. Mark items for ease of reassemby. GB Liners Remova Specification Form wi indicate items to be removed from was and items to be dismanted by them. Simiary, reassemby wi be specified if it has been incuded in the quotation. If you wish to take pot pants or shrubs from your garden and transfer them to your new property, identify ceary what you are going to take at an eary stage and point them out to the Remova Consutant. Lift the pants we in advance and wrap the roots with pastic or sacking. Transporting pants is difficut. They take up a ot of space on the foor of the vehice, as they cannot be stacked on top of other items or have goods stacked on them. We cannot be hed responsibe for damage through exposure to extremes of temperature (hot or cod) to indoor pants or for accidenta damage to the foiage. Dispose of anything you don t want to take with you, and set aside any items you re panning to take personay, i.e. in your car. Remember, removers wi usuay NOT be wiing to move certain dangerous items ike paint, petro or gas bottes, as we as vauabe or vunerabe items ike pets, watches, jeweery, stamp coections or cash, so you shoud make your own arrangements for these. Consider whether there are items with such sentimenta vaue that you may wish to pack and/or move them yoursef. GB Liners service incudes the suppy of sef-adhesive Not to Go abes. We can usuay aso suppy a sma quantity of cartons in advance for the items you are deaing with yoursef. If you have indicated that a ift is avaiabe at either end, pease make sure that it is, and that the movers wi have priority use. Te the movers in advance if there is a probem, as this wi have a considerabe impact on the number of staff required and the cost. Pan where you want everything to go at destination. Remember that when everything is boxed you may have 50% more voume than when it s a in cupboards, so if unpacking is not incuded in the quotation think about where the boxes can go unti you can tacke them. Think about what s essentia to unpack and what s better eft unti, for exampe, sheves are up. GB Liners Moving Consutants may suggest a coour coding system and suppy the necessary abes if the move is very arge or unusuay compicated. The most common probem on remova day is the unavaiabiity of keys. In order to avoid this you shoud agree with your soicitor a definite time that you wi be abe to move into your new home. Remember, your home is not the first home the soicitor has bought or sod, so they ought to be abe to work to a timetabe. GB Liners strongy recommend paying particuar attention to this point. We offer a waiting time waiver at a sma additiona cost shoud the keys not be avaiabe to you. If this is not purchased and we are hed up through no faut of our own and incur extra costs, we wi have to make an additiona charge for this. However, within reason we wi agree to a ater deivery time if discussed in advance. Moving day can be an exciting and stressfu time for both chidren and pets. If possibe get someone to ook after them whie the move is going on. If the mover is doing the packing, in most cases items are best eft in position on sheves and in cupboards, However, it can be hepfu if you assembe smaer items together in one room, before the movers arrive. If you are panning a eaving party for friends and neighbours, pease hod it we in advance. Don t eave it unti the night before. We have seen it! On Moving Day With a itte work and a itte uck, you be we prepared when moving day dawns. But to make sure everything goes according to pan, there are a few more creases you need to iron out When the moving crew go round the house, point out to the Supervisor what has to go. Be particuary cear about outside effects ike pants, toos and garden furniture. Give your instructions ony to the Supervisor. The GB Liners Supervisor wi introduce himsef to you on arriva to avoid confusion. The moving company wi not accept responsibiity for jeweery, watches, trinkets, money or documents ost or damaged during a move. Before the move you shoud dea with these items personay, making sure they are safe. Set aside handbags, coats, provisions etc. which you may require on the journey, so that they are not packed in the van. Put them in your car first, or coect them together; mark them conspicuousy and point them out to the Supervisor. Do not forget to eave the kette, cups and tea or coffee accessibe so that you can make yoursef a cuppa when you arrive. It is your responsibiity to ensure that everything has been ceared from inside and outside the house and that no items or fixtures are moved in error. Things which are not to be moved shoud be ceary marked. Wak round the house before the van eaves to satisfy yoursef that a is cear, checking a the cupboards. Finay, check the deivery arrangements with the Supervisor. It may be hepfu if you have a sketch map of where you re going. Give him any teephone numbers where he can contact you and make sure that you are at the deivery address in good time. Storing Your Furniture Ideay, you re moving straight from one home into another - but sometimes that isn t possibe. So what do you do with your vaued possessions in the meantime? Sometimes the need for storage ony becomes cear ate in the moving process, so uness you are 100% sure you won t need it, we suggest you pan for it - just in case. Some items wi not be suitabe for storage (see before moving day ). Add to the ist pants, food (uness canned), batteries, gas ighters, chemicas and anything ese that coud be harmfu. Incidentay, you won t be abe to store any furniture affected by woodworm. There are aso items it s not advisabe to send to store - they incude cothing (uness the storage period is very short) and vauabe documents such as passports, wis, insurance poicies, driving documents and other ega papers. You may aso prefer to retain sports equipment, such as fishing tacke and gof cubs. Consider what items shoud go into store ast, so that you can get them out eary if need be - carpets and fitted appiances may need to be reinstaed before the fina move. We can provide Keep Forward abes for goods required eary and wherever possibe wi keep these items together for easy access. Sort out what is going to go with you into your temporary accommodation and separate it wherever possibe from the goods to go to store. We have abes indicating store or direct that can be used for this purpose. Think carefuy about the vaue of goods that are going into store. Make sure you have adequate cover through the remover or through your insurer for the repacement vaue. GB Liners wi cover goods in store for the vaue decared to them. We wi not take goods to store without a decared vaue. Register a posta communication address and wherever possibe eave phone, fax and e-mai detais with the mover. Estabish how and when storage charges have to be paid. (N.B: Storage charges are usuay payabe in advance). Make sure that as far as possibe moisture is removed from fridges, freezers, washing machines, tumbe dryers and dishwashers. Avoid the use of poythene for wrapping anything containing dampness, as midew wi inevitaby resut. GB Liners charges are payabe quartery in advance for storage. Where customers pay by an automated process such as direct debit or credit card, charges can be coected monthy. We wi eave fridges and freezers open to aow air circuation and avoid mustiness or moud to buid up in store. Beds wi go into paper bedding bags to aow any moisture to escape. Uphostery wi often be wrapped in paper covers and stored on racks to avoid pressure marks. Specia arrangements may be suggested for musica equipment, git picture frames and other items that are sensitive to temperature and/or humidity. When you want your goods back, remember a the advice given at the beginning about booking a date. Movers are entited to a period of notice to deiver and to finaise the account (which wi have to be paid before deivery). GB Liners ask for 2 weeks notice but wi deiver more quicky if we can, subject to the account being paid, incuding the notice period. Usuay there is insufficient time for a direct debit to be activated so the fina account may need to be paid by cheque or credit card. 6
After Moving Day You re neary there by now. A that time and effort you ve invested has paid off. There s no doubt a great dea eft to do, but the mover s job is neary compete. If the mover has eft you to unpack the boxes, attend to one room at a time. Check carefuy that each box is competey empty and that no sma items are eft in the paper. It is a good idea to unpack over something soft so that if anything does fa out of your hands it has a soft anding. Some movers charge a refundabe deposit on the materias eft, so check whether this wi be the case. If you find any damage or oss, et the mover know quicky so he can investigate it. Most remova contracts have a reativey short notice period on caims - seven days is common. Give the mover feedback on how it a went. Everybody ikes to know if the job has been done we and if it hasn t then the ony way to stop others being inconvenienced in the same way is to te the mover so he can remedy it. If you are happy, a recommendation ceary benefits the mover, so te a your friends and coeagues. GB Liners do not charge for materias eft and wi ca and coect when a vehice is in the area to suit you. A repy paid card is provided for this purpose. The boxes wi fod fat to make storage easy in the interim period. The free coection service is imited to one free coection. GB Liners standard conditions aow 7 days for caims to be notified. We admit we do sometimes break things, but wherever possibe we wi put you in touch with repairers who can sort out the probem. Our ong experience has taught us where to find repair services you may not even know exist. For a sma additiona fee, GB Liners are wiing to extend the imit for caims to 28 days. Fu detais wi be with the quote. Each GB Liners customer receives a Quaity Contro form for this purpose, together with a repy paid card to commend any individua for their exceptiona service. We keep a tay of these cards and reward a staff who feature on them. We subscribe to Referenceine, an independent monitoring service to measure our performance, and each customer is provided with a feedback form to return to Referenceine direct (www.referenceine.org).
