DID lines cannot make outgoing calls. DID service consists of a series of telephone numbers in the central office that correspond to the individual PBX extension connected to the customer's PBX. For example, the main DID telephone number is 624-2600: A caller dials 624-2626. The CO screens the number and routes the call to the PBX over the appropriate DID trunk group. The CO "transmits" the last 4 numbers (of the 7-digit telephone number) to the PBX. The PBX receives the "transmitted" number and routes the call to the appropriate extension.
