Trimble Productivity: Making GPS Solutions Simple and Affordable Trimble Site Positioning Systems: Smart GPS Antennas and Modular GPS Receivers

Unmatched jobsite performance GPS: How Does It Work? Trimble makes Global Positioning Systems (GPS) easy to use and saves the contractor money by: minimizing rework, eliminating dependence on external firms for grade checking, stakeout, measurement, and reducing time spent managing your GPS operations. Trimble Site Positioning Systems put the necessary equipment in the contractor s hands all powered by easy-to-use Trimble SCS900 Site Controller Software created specifically with the contractor in mind. Many construction applications require tight tolerances. Trimble uses Global Positioning System (GPS) equipment to give the contractor centimeter-level accuracy with Real Time Kinematic (RTK) technology. This technology requires your GPS fleet have a base station and a rover. Base Station The base station is set up over a known point and remains stationary during your daily operations. For quick setups, the base station can be set up on a tripod. For sites where you will be working for a longer period of time, the base station can be set up on or in a site trailer or other permanent fixture. Rover The rover element consists of a GPS receiver, a receive radio, and a controller with a software application. These components can be set up on a rover rod, ATV, supervisor s vehicle, or other mobile asset. GPS signals experience interference as they pass through the earth s atmosphere. These signals originate from satellites orbiting the earth, and are received by GPS receivers on the earth s surface. The atmosphere can distort the different GPS signals resulting in signal noise. Therefore, the base station must be set up over a known point on your job site. The base station takes the location information it receives from the satellites overhead, compares it to its current, known coordinate, and computes a correction. The roving GPS receiver also receives information from the same satellites orbiting the earth. However, the rover does not have one fixed location so it cannot compute its own corrections. This is where the base station is needed. Through its transmit radio, the base station sends the corrections it computed to the roving GPS receiver which receives the corrections through its receive radio. The roving receiver uses the correction calculation from the base station and is able to determine its horizontal and vertical location. One base station works with multiple roving assets on a job site.

Performing site positioning applications smarter, faster and more profitably is critical to success in the highly competitive construction industry. Today, you need to be able to perform all parts of the job faster and more accurately than ever. The Trimble Site Positioning Systems product family, featuring the SPS780 and SPS880 Smart GPS Antennas and the SPS750 and SPS850 Modular GPS Receivers, offers you integrated hardware and software solutions designed to make leading-edge Global Positioning System (GPS) technology simple and affordable. Trimble SCS900 Site Controller Software provides solutions to the construction user, and closes the gap between site and office operations. Seamlessly organize and manage all your measurement and stakeout operations for multiple crews on multiple jobsites to maximize your productivity and your return on investment. Range of options Trimble SPS780 and SPS880 Smart GPS Antennas and SPS750 and SPS850 Modular GPS Receivers offer you a range of options to suit your individual applications, flexibility and performance requirements. Both Trimble families of GPS receivers offer three levels of functionality--basic, Max and Extreme--from low-cost, entry-level receivers for the small site contractor, to flexible, high-performance receivers for the large-site contractor. Versatility The Max or Extreme level receiver gives the contractor the choice of using their receiver as a base station, pole-mounted rover, or in a supervisor s vehicle whatever you need that day. Max and Extreme level receivers lets the contractor use their receiver as a rover within a Virtual Reference Station network (VRS), when available, and operate without a base station. GPS Modernization and Tough Operating Conditions The Extreme level of GPS receiver gives the customer peace of mind knowing their investment can use all planned GPS signal modernization (L2C, L5), as well as the ability to track additional satellite constellations such as GLONASS. The ability to track additional satellite constellations lets the contractor work in situations where the number of GPS satellites available is reduced such as in deep cuts, quarries, or mines.

Trimble SPS780 and SPS880 Smart GPS Antennas Trimble SPS780 and SPS880 Smart GPS Antennas The Smart GPS Antenna concept combines all of the necessary GPS components into a single, lightweight, housing. The concept integrates the GPS receiver, GPS antenna, radio, radio antenna, and battery into a highly portable, quick to set up, cable- free GPS solution. The Smart GPS Antenna, combined with a rugged, construction tough controller running the SCS900 Site Controller software, gives the contractor an all-on-the-pole solution to conduct stakeout, grade checking, and measurement applications. The Trimble SPS780 and SPS880 Smart GPS Antennas are easy to set up and take down quickly, making them the ideal base station for small-to-medium-size job sites where equipment is removed at the end of the day. Having all the necessary components integrated into a tough, lightweight housing provides the ultimate in easy set up, while eliminating the need to deal with cables and multiple components. The Trimble SPS880 Smart GPS Antenna is ready for the latest GPS updates; as the L2C code and L5 carrier signals become available, the Trimble SPS880 is ready to track them. The SPS880 also allows the user to track satellites from the GLONASS constellation, which can help eliminate downtime in tough satellite coverage areas. The cable-free receivers use the latest Bluetooth technology so you need less equipment and less setup time for increased overall contractor profitability.

Trimble SPS750 and SPS850 Modular GPS Receivers The Trimble SPS750 and SPS850 Modular GPS Receivers are ideal for semi-permanent or permanent base station setups, as well as for rover applications such as mounted in a marine vessel or site supervisor s vehicle. The receiver easily switches to pole-mounted rover operations. The SPS750 and SPS850 bring the contractor the flexibility to choose how their receiver will be used each day, either as a base station or a rover. The decision is yours to make. The Modular Receiver concept offers the contractor many advantages. The Trimble SPS750 and SPS850 Modular GPS Receivers combine the radio and GPS receiver in a single housing. This allows contractors to secure the majority of their investment inside a site trailer or carrying case protected from the elements and/or theft, leaving only the antennas outside. Additionally, the modularity of the setup lets you mount the antennas high and away from obstructions for a clearer GPS signal and maximum radio coverage. The SPS750 Basic can be upgraded to the SPS750 Max, so you can increase the functionality of your equipment as your projects needs grow. Trimble SPS750 and SPS850 Modular GPS Receivers Your future-proof investment Satellite Based Augmentaion Systems (SBAS) such as European Geostation Navigation Overlay Service (EGNOS) and Wide Area Augmentation System (WAAS), as well as independent satellite based correction services such as OmniSTAR, provide meter and decimeter level measurement accuracy (respectively). The Trimble SPS850 Modular GPS Receiver is ready for signals that will be transmitted by future satellites, such as further launches of L2C code broadcasting satellites, as well as the L5 carrier signal when it becomes available. The Trimble SPS850 Receiver also has the ability to track the GLONASS constellation. More satellites means better coverage in tough, GPS only coverage areas. Trimble GPS receivers are ready to receive all planned sources of GPS corrections, meaning less down time for our customers. Ethernet support The SPS750 and SPS850 Modular GPS Receivers offer Ethernet support, as well as a built in web server. Ethernet capability means you can connect to your receiver from a remote site, reboot, change configuration settings, receive corrections and troubleshoot any problems you may have, eliminating the down time typically experienced when having to drive to the jobsite to resolve problems. Autobase Autobase capability allows you to start a base station the first and every subsequent time with a single push of the on/off button. The receiver determines if it is at a previously used location or at a new location, and automatically peforms the setup procedure. Two radio frequencies from one receiver Broadcast corrections from an internal 900 MHz radio, as well as from an external 450 MHz radio. Broadcast corrections over both frequencies from one receiver, satisfying all users on the jobsite such as surveyors, contractors and sub contractors!
