What Is Microsoft Private Cloud Fast Track? MICROSOFT PRIVATE CLOUD FAST TRACK is a reference architecture for building private clouds that combines Microsoft software, consolidated guidance, and validated configurations with Hitachi technologies including compute, management, network, and storage as well as value-added software components. Built on the Windows Server 2008 R2 Hyper-V technology and Microsoft System Center solutions, Microsoft private cloud offerings can help customers and service providers build dedicated infrastructure as a service (IaaS) environments that transform the way they deliver IT services. Specifically, Microsoft Private Cloud Fast Track solutions provide a turnkey approach to delivering scalable, preconfigured, and validated infrastructure platforms for on-premises private cloud implementations. With local control over data and operations, IT can dynamically pool, allocate, secure, and manage resources for agile IaaS. Likewise, business units can deploy line-ofbusiness applications with speed and consistency using self-provisioning (and decommissioning) and automated data center services in a virtualized environment. PRIVATE CLOUD ON YOUR TERMS FASTER DEPLOYMENT Rich features and support make private clouds easy to deploy. End-to-end architectural and deployment guidance Streamlined infrastructure planning due to predefined capacity Enhanced functionality and automation through deep knowledge of infrastructure Integrated management for virtual machine and infrastructure deployment REDUCED RISK Validated configurations mean you can implement with confidence. Tested, end-to-end interoperability for compute, network, and storage Predefined, out-of-box solutions based on a common cloud architecture High degree of service availability through automated load balancing PREDICTABLE RESULTS With Hitachi, you can create an avenue for further automation and orchestration. Building blocks for private cloud infrastructures with predictable performance and flexibility Prevalidated IaaS solutions that are easy to order and deploy, and combine best-in-class Hitachi storage and servers with networking and Microsoft software Ability to quickly implement what you need today for your private cloud Microsoft and Hitachi deliver on the promise of agile private clouds with a pre-racked, fault-tolerant cloud platform that has been validated to Microsoft standards. Customers get the advantage of a turnkey infrastructure solution that has been optimized to work with Hyper-V. For virtual machine and infrastructure deployment, integrated management with Microsoft System Center 2012 can help to eliminate the need for third-party orchestration and automation vendors (who may lack deep knowledge of the infrastructure). Looking toward the future, System Center 2012 enables proactive management of both physical and virtual environments, whether on-premises or hosted, through a unified pane of glass and consistent policies.

Why Hitachi? USING HITACHI SOLUTIONS built on Microsoft Private Cloud Fast Track, you can quickly deploy private cloud infrastructures with predictable results and create an avenue for further automation and orchestration. These solutions provide validated reference architectures for combining Hitachi compute blades and storage with network infrastructure and Windows Server 2008 R2 Hyper-V and Microsoft System Center 2012. Each solution is tuned to different business needs, so your organization can quickly build and use the benefits of private cloud solutions to improve agility, maximize efficiency, and optimize control of its data centers. Hitachi Solutions for Microsoft Private Cloud Fast Track Microsoft System Center 2012 integrated management Windows Server 2008 R2 parallel server and virtual machine roles Blade 2000 Enterprise-class 10U, 8 blades Up to 256 GB per blade Intel Xeon 5600 and 7500 Series processors Blade-symmetric multi-processor interconnect to bi-directional scaling Hitachi Virtual Storage Platform Large storage resources and deployments Integrated front-to-back I/O load balancing 8 Gb Fibre Channel and 10 Gb iscsi The Microsoft Private Cloud Fast Track offerings from Hitachi provide standardized infrastructure as a service (IaaS) to deploy and host mission-critical applications. Hitachi solutions provide a cost-effective converged infrastructure that is preconfigured from the factory, allowing you to quickly deploy a private cloud with increased resiliency at a lower cost of ownership. The following table describes the specific infrastructure components for the Hitachi 16-server configuration. Infrastructure Component Blades Base Configuration 2 Blade 2000 16 blades (14 for VM guests) Xeon processor, 8 cores per blade 72 GB RAM standard Optional: Xeon E5670, 12 cores per blade 256 GB RAM per blade Hitachi Virtual Storage Platform 8 Gb Fibre Channel 10 Gb iscsi (FCoE optional) Virtual Machines Supported Scales from 450 to 10,000 VMs, using additional compute and storage

Private Cloud Technologies Customers can take advantage of the cost savings of virtualization through Windows Server 2008 R2 Hyper-V. Multiple server roles can be consolidated as separate virtual machines on a single physical machine that runs different operating systems in parallel and uses the power of x64 computing. A cloud and data center management solution, Microsoft System Center 2012 provides a common toolset to manage private and public cloud applications and services. This solution: Spans physical, virtual, and cloud computing models with common management experiences throughout. Provides comprehensive, end-to-end management for infrastructure and applications, including interoperability for heterogeneous environments. Offers compelling economic value. Hitachi Solution Validated IaaS solution for predictable, repeatable, and reliable results Faster deployment and increased ability to meet changing needs with a single source for components and prescriptive guidance (including technical guides, best practices papers, reference architectures, deployment guides and checklists, and presales sizing tools) Coordinated management using System Center 2012 Virtual Machine Manager Blade 2000, the enterprise-class powerhouse of the 10U, 8-blade system with Intel Xeon 5600 and 7500 Series processors Support for up to 256 GB of memory and 162 Gbps of I/O throughput on each 7500 Series blade Blade-symmetric multi-processor interconnect technology to scale compute resources up and out Virtual Storage Platform 8 Gb Fibre Channel and 10 Gb iscsi connectivity (FCoE optional) Ability to manage up to 5 million logical objects and 255 PB of virtualized capacity Agentless technologies to manage large storage resources and deployments Integrated, automated, and hardware-based front-to-back I/O load balancing FOR MORE INFORMATION http://www.microsoft.com/privatecloud http://www.hds.com/solutions/infrastructure/microsoft-cloud-deployments/index.html 2012 Microsoft Corporation.
