PART B: Description of the Project Title: Education for Climate Change Adaptation and Mitigation ECCAM Grant amount approved: 1,529,525 EUR Duration of the mobility activities: (Indicate the longest individual mobility planned) 48 months Project summary (around 400 words) The strategic objective of the project is to promote sustainable development and poverty alleviation by increasing the availability of trained and qualified high-level professional manpower in the Caribbean and Pacific countries. The project intends to strengthen cooperation between Higher Education Institutions (HEI) in the Caribbean and Pacific region in view of increasing access to quality education. Postgraduate students will undertake postgraduate studies to promote student retention in the country along with mobility of staff (academic and administrative) while increasing competitiveness and attractiveness of the institutions themselves. The specific objectives are: 1) provide access to higher education for economically and socially disadvantaged students, particularly from rural areas and remote islands 2) facilitate cooperation on recognition of interdisciplinary studies and quotations; 3) continue to the progressively improve the quality of higher education through promoting internationalism, harmonization of programmes and MSc and PhD curricula with partner institutions; 4) enable qualified international students, academics and staff to benefit logistically, culturally and professionally from the experience gained in the context of mobility to another country and ; 5) promote inter-institutional cooperation between sending and host institutions and enhance medium to long-term educational, cultural and economic links between participating Caribbean and Pacific regional countries. - 1 -

Thematic fields (Use the list of master and doctoral programmes - Annex 3 to the Application form - to indicate the academic offer by the partners) FNU: FNU has an accredited Master of Medicine in Anaesthesia (4 Years) ; Master of Medicine in Internal Medicine (4 Years); Master of Medicine in Obstetrics & Gynaecology (4 Years); Master of Medicine in Paediatrics (4 Years); Master of Medicine in Surgery (4 Years); Master of Public Health by Coursework; Master of Public Health by Research Fiji National University; Postgraduate Certificate in Public Health; Postgraduate Diploma in Applied Epidemiology; Postgraduate Diploma in Health Promotion; Postgraduate Diploma in Health Services Management and Postgraduate Diploma in Public Health. All of these postgraduate courses are offered at Nasinu, Samabula, Koronivia, Nausori and Suva campuses within the College of medicine, nursing and health sciences CMNHS). FNU has a College of Engineering, Science and Technology and current programmes are primarily at the Bachelor level and post graduate training and short courses. In the College of Humanities and Education FNU has a 2 year Masters in Education and Graduate Certificate in Education. Courses include: Contemporary issues in Education; Advanced Psychology of Learning and Teaching, Curriculum Development and Research; Research and Education; Science Education; Language Education and Social science education. Within the College of Business, Hospitality and Tourism Studies, FNU has a Masters in Commerce (focus on Economics, Finance and Taxation), and Master s degree in AI; computing science, information systems, information technology. FNU is in the process of developing a new Master of Forest Sciences Programme (within the College of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry (CAFF) and there is a PhD programme in Crops and Animal Science. University of Papua New Guinea (UPNG): The UPNG Masters Programme consists of the Master of Public Health; Master of Medical Sciences (M Med Sci); Master of Medicine Anaesthesiology; Master of Medicine Internal Medicine; Master of Medicine Surgery; Master of Medicine Child Health; Master of Medicine Obstetrics & Gynaecology; Master of Medicine Ophthalmology; Master of Medicine Otorhinolaryngology; Master of Medicine. At the Doctorate (PhD) level, UPNG has Doctor of Medicine (MD) and Higher Postgraduate Diploma s in Higher Surgical Diploma in Orthopaedic Surgery; Higher Postgraduate Diploma Paediatric Surgery; Higher Surgical Diploma in Cardiothoraic Surgery. UPNG as programmes in the relevant departments affiliated with the CFP s fields of study. UPNG also has a Masters of arts, Dr. philosophy and Dr. of letters within the humanities and social sciences fields. In business administration, UPNG focus on postgraduate certificate in business administration, PG diplomas in business administration; Masters of business administration (CPA); Masters in accounting and finance; business management, strategic management, and a Master of Laws. It has PhD programs in business management. Within the Department of Natural and Physical sciences, UPNG has a postgraduate diploma in science, PG diploma in conservation planning and development, PG diploma in communications in science and technology. At the Masters level, UPNG has Masters of Science (MSc); Dr. philosophy (D.Phil) and Doctor of Science (D.Sc). University of Guyana: The major subject areas at the undergraduate certificate/ diploma/associate degree/post-graduate levels, are as follows: Masters in Emergency Medicine, Masters in Paediatrics; Masters in Obstetrics & Gynaecology. Iwokrama International Centre (IIC): Guyana Shield. ICC works in climate change sustainable forestry and ecotourism. ICC is an international nonprofit organization governed by an international Board of Trustees and managed by professional team of researchers at around 70 staff in Georgetown, River Lodge and research Center Kurupukari. Research is clearly identified in Iwokrama s mission as one of the means of achieving conservation and sustainable utilisation of our forests. Currently, Iwokrama is engaged in a number of projects that fit well within the IIC s continuing research agenda goals. The three largest projects comprise the Forest Research Network; the Guiana Shield Initiative and a programme focused on capacity building to support national initiatives in reducing deforestation and degradation in Guyana. The first project is funded by the European Commission and the Centre for International Forestry Research (CIFOR) EU-ACP Forestry Research Network Project the second by the European Union, the Dutch Government, United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) Netherlands Committee; and the third by the Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation.
