Ahfad University for Women Facts and Figures 2015 History The history of the Ahfad University for Women reaches back to 1907 when Shiek Babiker Badri established Sudanese first private school. Even more remarkable than its establishment at that time was the fact that school was for girls only! It was most likely the first private school for girls in all Africa. From then on,shiek Babiker( 1860-1954) and his son, Yusuf( 1912-1995), expanded private education for both boys and girls, culminating with the establishment of the Ahfad University College for Women by Professor Yusuf in 1966. In 1995, full university status was granted by the Sudan National Council for Higher Education. Ahfad University for Women (AUW), is a non- governmental, non- private making, nonsectarian university AUW is governed by three boards: Board of Trustees, University Council and Academic Council. 1
