OSCAR OPHTHALMOLOGY OscarService Ophthalmology Solution Aug 10. 2013
OSCAR Ophthalmology Road (the history of the development for the OSCAR eye package) On the road Beginning Ophthalmology plugin framework In 2009, led by a group of Toronto ophthalmologists, and implemented by OscarService, the very first version of the OSCAR ophthalmology package was created. It had a plugin design for plug and play for OSCAR V9. Key components included in the package including: Inbox Manager handles the incoming documents filing system for referrals and other patient medical documents. Consultation report module Creates a professional looking consultation report to easily generate the report for the family doctors. Big jump Ophthalmology rewrite for OSCAR v12 Brand new encounter design for ophthalmology (named eyeform) this module replaced the encounter for family practice which focus on diagnosis, history, eye examination & impression plan. Document management system (named Inbox Manager) In 2012, the same group of Toronto ophthalmologists and McMaster University rewrote the OSCAR eye package, removed the plugin framework from the old version but kept the same functionality for the ophthalmologists based on OSCAR V12 core code. In the same year OSCAR V12 passed the ISO 13485 certification and Ontario MD CMS 4.1 conformance test. 2
` 3 On the road OscarService did major bug fixes (more than 75 cases) and improvements for the release of the V12.1 eye package. We also did major upgrade and data migration for all the ophthalmologist clients who used the old plugin framework. At the same time, OscarService programmed and released these two features to support the new eye package: Multi-site features This module gives doctors who run multiple clinics better control of filtering patient s appointment and billing information from site to site. Live24 Real Time Backup & Switch With Live24 upgraded and enabled, OSCAR data are now real time mirrored, and server can switch automatically when one production server fails, so no down time anymore. Step up New things on the road Now, OscarService has moved forward with ophthalmology, using the the great ideas from the ophthalmology users, we started these projects in the second quarter of 2013. Eyeform V3 new design In the OSCAR V12.1 ophthalmology package, the encounter(or eyeform) only covers 85% of the fields which the ophthalmologist use, and there are some features that look backward compared with the old eye plugin package. Invested by the eye doctors group, the V3 design will cover almost 100% of the field that regular ophthalmologists use and some other enhancements to make charting smoother and faster. Signature pad OscarService programed a special signature pad so that it can support the electronic signature in the consultation, prescription, and eforms module. I.E: the patient can sign electronically on the consent form displayed on the monitor. Zeiss Forum Integration This is the big step OscarService decided to make for the eye doctors; The integration benefit from the new release from Zeiss Forum V3 or V3.1+, which supports the standard HL7 information exchange. As of Aug, 2013, OscarService is the FIRST and ONLY ONE EMR Company in Canada that utilizes EMR with Zeiss. The idea is to eliminate the time a technician spends on duplicated data entry on Zeiss devices. It will also be easy for the doctors to see the diagnose images directly from the OSCAR patient s encounter (or eyeform).
Automation VIA Zeiss-Portal OSCAR-Zeiss-Portal (Release Oct, 2013) OSCAR-Zeiss-Portal is the name OscarService used to program and integrate with Zeiss Forum V3 or V3.1+, it perform those key value added service for OSCAR & Zeiss Forum: Worklist pushed directly from OSCAR appointment to Zeiss instrument like OCT, VF Assuming input of one patient s information into the Forum take 30 seconds, and youdiagnose 100 patients a day, every year OSCAR-Zeiss-Portal can save 304 hours of technician s time (or 38 working days!) every day there will be a 10% efficiency increase. Image link pushed back to OSCAR (open with Forum viewer) the doctor no longer need to open EMR and then open Forum viewer again and search for patient images, in OSCAR there will be a direct link to open Forum viewer and see images. Eyeform V3 (Release Nov, 2013) V3 projects started from June 2013, implemented by OscarService. All codes under OSCAR GPL v2 license and will be committed back to the main OSCAR trunk once code tested is reliable. Signature Pad (Release Oct 2013) Pad release together with the OSCAR eform generator, allow users to create their own eforms and draw the signature signing area wherever on the form. Also supporting consultation signature and prescription signature. 4
