COURSE DESCRIPTION: This course introduces the student to the nursing field, incorporating basic beginning skills with understanding of the fundamentals of patient care. These fundamentals include: the history of nursing, health care, and vocational nursing practice, communication skills, legal and ethical aspects of healthcare, cultural aspects of client care. The assessment of vital signs, basic first aid and CPR are included in this course. Students will also master the fundamental skills necessary for basic client care, such as hand washing, bed making, and assisting the client with hygiene and assessment of vital signs. COURSE DESCRIPTION: This course covers the theory of Maslow s Hierarchy of Needs and of life span development, including Erickson and Piaget. It focuses on the aging process and dying and death. It discussed identification of the nursing care needs of patients throughout the aging spectrum and includes cultural considerations. The stages of grief and nursing care associated with the dying process are included in this course. 1. Identify the theories of life span development. 2.
