The Financial Aid Office at the Technical College of the Lowcountry has received notification that you are interested in a federal Direct Student Loan All information and submissions are due no later than August 1, 2011 for the FALL 2011 Semester. PLEASE READ THIS INFORMATION CAREFULLY, It is important that you understand these requirements. 1. Loans are listed on your Web Abvisor account but not certified to the Department of Education until all processes are complete as listed above. All steps in this process and submission of documentation required for verification of your student aid application (FAFSA) must be completed by August 1, 2011 2. Account information cannot be provided by phone, please check your Web Advisor Account for up to date information. All five steps of this are due and completed by August 1, 2011 in order for the loan to be certified for the FALL 2011semester. If you choose to attend the student loan workshop held on August 1, 2011 you are still responsible to complete the other requirements by August 1, 2011. 3. You must be registered at least 6 credit hours at TCL for the term that the loan funds are being requested. Students that fail to attend all classes they are registered for may lose eligibility of loan funds. In addition, students that drop classes before completing 60% of the academic term may be required to immediately repay all or part of the loan received. This is a federal regulation that cannot be reversed regardless of the reason you are withdrawing. Make sure you speak to a financial aid counselor before withdrawing from all of your classes. 4. All hours of enrollment must count toward the student s diploma, certificate, or degree program at TCL. 5. If you are a new student or have not completed the Title IV Authorization form (attached) you must complete this form and return it to the Business office. It is very important that you read this information carefully. By completing the Title IV Authorization form you are deciding if you plan to charge books in the bookstore as well as how your refund will be processed. Questions concerning the Title IV Authorization form should be directed to the Business Office/Cashier. 6. Students must be making academic progress toward the completion of their program of study. 7. Student may not exceed federally established yearly or lifetime loan limits. 8. All students receiving student loan funds must attend a Financial Literacy Workshop. This workshop is provided to the student at no cost. This is an annual requirement. Students failing to attend one of the required workshops for the semester will not be veteran status, disability, or political affiliation or belief. Page 2 of 6

considered for loan funds until the following semester and not until after the workshop has been attended. 9. Students must complete an Online Entrance Interview. This is done by going to www.studentloans.gov. All students planning to attend the Fall semester must complete this Entrance interview no later than August 1, 2011 this must be completed even if the student is a returning student. 10. Students requesting loan funding must have a current address and phone number on file with the college and U.S. Department of Education's Direct Loan Program which they are requesting funds. Students that do not maintain a correct address with TCL and the U.S. Department of Education's Direct Loan Program will immediately have their loan disbursement canceled. Students that have loan funds canceled as the result of an incorrect address will not be considered for student loan funds until the next scheduled semester. 11. Students must complete their MPN (Master Promissory Note) no later than August 1, 2011Students that have not completed the MPN by the deadline will not receive loan disbursements for the FALL 2011 semester. All qualifications and deadlines for the next Semester will need to be met prior to disbursement. 12. All students must complete a TCL In-House Loan Application. The TCL In-House Loan Application must be completely filed out, no later than August 1, 2011 Loan applications received incomplete or after the deadline will not be certified for the Summer term. 13. All student loan funds are sent to TCL by electronic fund transfer. Students reimbursement of loan funds in excess of amounts needed to cover tuition will be returned to the student by US mail. Checks are mailed by the Business Office as per the student s selection on the Title IV Authorization form and the schedule provided by the Business Office. 14. First time borrowers of the student loan program must wait 30 days after the start of class before loan proceeds be disbursed to the students account. This is a federal regulation and cannot be waived under any circumstance. September 18, 2011 is the date loan funds are requested for for First-time borrowers. Tuition will be placed on hold pending the disbursement to the students account as long as all processes are complete. This is not the date that refunds are mailed as they are not received until this day. 15. First time borrowers will need to make other arrangements for the purchase of books this first semester during the thirty (30) day hold period. All other funds will be posted as available. All forms required to be returned to the Financial Aid office may be returned by US Mail, or returned to any TCL campus location. All deadlines are still applicable if returning forms to the New River or H. Mungin Center. August 1, 2011 is the deadline for the FALL 2011 Semester. NOTE: this authorization remains in effect from the date signed until you cease enrollment at the College (or until it is modified or revoked by you.) According to Federal Regulation Sect. 668.165 (b) (2) (ii), you have the right to revoke or modify this authorization at any time. You must notify the Business Office IN WRITING, of your intent to revoke this authorization. The Business Office will provide you with the revocation form upon request. Once your written revocation of this agreement is received, any remaining Title IV credit will be refunded to you within 14 days of the date of receipt. Please read the following concerning payment of any applicable Title IV credit balance. A Title IV credit balance results whenever the total Federal aid transmitted to your student account exceeds the balance of outstanding student tuition and fees. OPTION 1: Signature Date I authorize the assignment of the balance of my Title IV award(s) to the TCL bookstore in order that I may purchase textbooks and supplies. I understand that my bookstore account will remain open for the first 4 weeks of each academic term. Any remaining Title IV balance which I have not used for purchasing books and supplies will be mailed to me within 14 days of the closing of my bookstore account. (Bookstore accounts are closed 4 weeks after the first day of the academic term.) I understand it is my responsibility to notify the Admissions office of any changes to my mailing address to prevent delays in receiving my remaining Title IV funds. OPTION 2: Signature Date I DO NOT authorize the assignment of the balance of my Title IV award(s) to the TCL bookstore. I understand and agree that any remaining balance of Title IV funds which are on my account after payment of tuition and fees will be refunded to me within 14 days from the first day of classes in the academic term. I understand it is my responsibility to notify the Admissions office of any changes to my mailing address to prevent delays in receiving my remaining Title IV funds. Other Authorized Deductions: Signature Date I authorize TCL to pay outstanding charges on my student account (including but not limited to, prior term balances, parking fines, insurance, SLED checks, and testing charges) with excess Title IV funds which would otherwise be refunded. ALL FINANCIAL AID RECIPIENTS MUST SIGN: I UNDERSTAND THAT CHANGES TO MY COURSE SCHEDULE, SUCH AS DROPPING CLASSES OR NONATTENDANCE MAY RESULT IN A REDUCTION IN FINANCIAL AID WHICH WILL LEAVE ME PERSONALLY RESPONSIBLE FOR PAYMENT OF TUITION AND FEES.
