56 ASSOCIATE IN ARTS DEGREE A.A. DEGREE ASSOCIATE IN ARTS DEGREE (A.A.) University Parallel Transfer NFCC offers a two-year program leading to the Associate in Arts (A.A.) degree. It is designed for students who plan to complete hours of coursework at NFCC and then transfer to a college or university of their choice. The A.A. degree is articulated to universities within the State University System. NFCC also offers the Associate in Science (A.S.) degree. Some A.S. degrees are transferable to and universities. An Associate in Applied Science (A.A.S.), a terminal degree, is also available at NFCC. Students planning transfer to a Florida public university or to Valdosta State University must complete a minimum of eight semester hours in a foreign language at NFCC or have completed two years of the same foreign language in high school. American Sign Language will meet the entry foreign language requirements for State University System institutions. However, entry into certain programs at SUS institutions may require a language other than American Sign Language. Students should consult an advisor for details. are required to complete the Associate in Arts Degree. It is the student s responsibility to meet all the requirements for the degree. Electives should be chosen to meet pre-requisite and transfer requirements for the intended major and transfer institution. Students have the responsibility of meeting with an advisor to work out their program of study at NFCC. Associate in Science degree program lengths vary according to State Board of Education Mandate. A.S. degrees normally range from 60 to 72 hours. Academic advisors consult counseling manuals provided by each state university in Florida, which identify courses to be taken for each undergraduate major the university offers. Advisors and students may also visit the FACTS web site for important information. FACTS is the statewide automated counseling and advising system for students. The URL for the site is www.facts.org. Early selection of a major and transfer institution is important. Limited access majors require an applicant to meet admission and course requirements before being admitted. In addition, an applicant may be required to submit test results from the ACT, AHPAT, PCAT, or VCAT. Associate in Arts Transfer Guarantee Graduates from a Florida community college Associate in Arts degree program are guaranteed the following rights under the statewide Articulation Agreement (State Board of Education Rule 6A-10.024): 1. Admission to one of the ten (10) state universities, programs. 2. (60) hours by the state universities toward the baccalaureate degree. 3. Adherence to university requirements and policies based on the catalog in effect at the time the community college provided 4. 5. 6. 7. 8. the student maintains continuous enrollment. Such agreements are sometimes referred to as 2 + 2 programs. On the NFCC campus, Florida A&M University offers a B.S. in Elementary Education and a B.S. in Sociology and Criminal Justice. Saint Leo University offers Bachelor s of Arts degrees in Elementary Education, Business Administration and Management, and Human Services. Degree seeking students must be admitted a degree program. 66 NURSING Associate in Science Degree: Registered Nursing 72 Credit Hours North Florida Community College has provisional approval from the Florida State Board of Nursing to offer the Associate in Science Degree for Registered Nursing. Twenty-four students are admitted into employment as a Registered Nurse in the state of Florida. Entrance Requirements All interested nursing applicants should make an appointment with the nursing advisor to review their academic plan for admission 1-2 years prior to their anticipated date of enrollment. A.S. DEGREE The Associate Degree Nursing (ADN) program at North Florida Community College offers a choice of two tracks for completion. Students who are not Licensed Practical Nurses (LPN s) will apply in the summer to enter the general track in which is 72 credit hours and begins each January. Students who are currently licensed as LPN s in the State of Florida may apply in the summer to enter the general track and/or the LPN-Bridge track which is a 5 semester (62 credit hours) program that begins in the summer. Completion of minimum entrance requirements does not guarantee acceptance into either track. The ADN Program is a limited access program. Admission to the ADN Program is on a selective admission basis. Minimum Entrance Requirements pay the $20 non-refundable fee. Submit high school transcripts and transcripts from previously or currently enrolled colleges. If previously or currently enrolled at NFCC, be in good academic standing. A course in basic computer skills is not required for entering the ADN Program. However, it will be assumed that the applicant has basic computer skills and will be able to demonstrate such ability during the program of study. Satisfactory completion of placement test and all college preparatory work. Completion of the following pre-requisite courses with a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or better: ENC1101 BSC 2085 NOTE: BSC 2085 and BSC 2086 must have been completed within BSC 2086 been more that 5 years but less than 8 years since enrollment in BSC DEP 2004 MAC 1105 2085 and BSC 2086, the student may still meet requirements through enrollment and completion of BCS 2084 with a grade of B or better. No more than (2) two failures on any pre-requisite science or math course or a combination of courses. If the failures were eight (8) or more years ago, the nursing admission committee may still consider the student s application for admission. If the failures have been within the last eight years, the student is ineligible for the ADN Program. Regardless of the student s cumulative GPA, a D in any pre-requisite course is not acceptable for admission into the program. the student must make arrangements to take the HESI Admission Test. A minimum score of 75 must be obtained in order to apply for acceptance into the ADN Program. Information regarding the HESI admission test can be obtained from the Nursing Advisor.

NURSING 67 questions. Dates and times will be made available to all applicants. Additional minimal requirements for the LPN Bridge Track: The LPN must present documentation of a current and valid Florida LPN license, with no problems, variances, restrictions, stipulations or like conditions for the duration of enrollment in the ADN program. Submit documentation of employment as an LPN for at least 6 months. Employment as an interested applicants are encouraged to schedule an appointment with a nursing faculty advisor.
