Meaningful Use and Why it matters? It s the standard that doctors and hospitals must achieve to qualify for Medicare and Medicaid incentive payments. It s the federal government s new roadmap for linking HIT and HIE to healthcare delivery system improvements. It will be the central organizing principle for the ongoing work of the Office of National Coordinator, the HIT Policy Committee, and the HIT Standards Committee It will become a dominant consideration for EHR Vendors as they upgrade their products.

National Healthcare Legislation AFFORDABLE CARE ACT : March 30, 2010; H.R. 3590 The comprehensive health care reform law enacted in March 2010. The law in two parts: The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act was signed into law on March 23, 2010 Health Care and Education Reconciliation Act on March 30, 2010. The name Affordable Care Act is used to refer to the final, amended version of the law. The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act of 2010 directs the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) to create a national voluntary program for accountable care organizations (ACOs) by January 2012.
