Waste Air Cleaning System Effective reduction of: Pollutants Odours Solvent emissions

The Problem Waste-Air Pollution n The cleaning of polluted waste air is an up-to-the-minute topic for many companies. What used to be a voluntary indication of exemplary environmental awareness has now become regulated reality. Due to VOC Solvents Directive not only big industrial companies with drastic waste air problems, but also small and medium sized businesses are now obliged to install effective waste air cleaning systems. These systems are designed to clean polluted and odourladen waste air so that it can be safely released into the environment. Our answer to this problem is PHOENIX efficient and cost-effective. Odours Restaurants, Commercial kitchens Food processing Meat and fish processing Odour-related waste air problems are the normal field of application for PHOENIX. The clean-up of this pollution often becomes an official regulation, particularly if companies are based in residential areas. Today, because of the new directives, etc., this also applies to the gastronomic business. PHOENIX realizes the elimination of unpleasant odours by treating the waste air with energy-rich UVC light. The organic odours are photooxidized and thereby decomposed. The latest waste air cleaning regulations can be quite troublesome for companies with solventladen waste air. To avoid an official reduction

The Solution Concept Solvents Print shops Paint manufacturers Paint shops Pollutants Chemical industry Plastics and rubber industry Metal processing Wood and surface machining n The solution for all areas Adherence to all official regulations 90 % odour reduction Less investments Very low operating costs, less energy costs Processing at room temperature Intermittent operation possible and economical Partial load operation with constant efficiency possible Also suitable for lower flow rates Can be extended due to the modular concept Simple operation and installation, less space required No start-up phase Indoor and outdoor installation Environmentally friendly, resource friendly methods (no thermal burning, no chemical additives) No pollutant transfer or additional impact on the environment German and international patents of production, measures to ensure effective waste air cleaning have to be taken. PHOENIX provides a safe and cost-effective method. Due to the modular construction, the system can be planned and realized according to specific requirements. This means PHOENIX is also economically viable for smaller companies. The diversity of production processes and applied raw materials results in a wide range of pollutant combinations in the waste air. But the final goal is always the same: The waste air must be purified of pollutants.

The Patented Operation PHOENIX is the perfect combination of photooxidation and catalytic oxidation. The process occurs in special customized and exactly calculated reaction units. Dimensioning of the respective system is not only determined by the waste air volume to be cleaned and the pollutant concentration, but also by the pollutant composition. The operating principle of the waste air cleaning method is based on the technical realization of photooxidative reactions for decomposing organic solvents and odours. The driving force for this is UVC light. Utilization of a catalyst increases the effectiveness of the oxidation reactions. 1 2 The PHOENIX systems usually consist of three modules: 2 Aerosol filter 3 Photo-oxidation 4 Catalytic oxidation PHOENIX-Technology 3 4 1 Polluted air 2 Aerosol filter 3 Photo-oxidation 4 Catalytic oxidation 5 Ventilator 6 Clean, odourless air Photo-oxidation The polluted waste air is at first fed through an aerosol filter to intercept particles, droplets or grease. The pre-filtered air reaches the reaction channel in which die UV radiation triggers 5 6 6 the chemical reaction. The odour and pollutant molecules are activated via the absorption of light wavelengths of less than 280 nm and decomposed by activated oxygen, an oxidative reaction gas. Activated oxygen is used here as a collective term for the reactive oxygen compounds created during the photo-oxidation process. These are actually oxygen radicals, hydroxyl radicals and ozone molecules, i. e. a mixture of gaseous oxidants. Try us Contact us! After an analysis of the specific waste air situation and project planning of the required system, a field test provides final confirmation of efficiency under real conditions. The Technical Variant Due to their increased energy and charge state these species are chemically highly reactive and seek to combine with oxidizable molecules, such as organic and inorganic odours and pollutants. Extension module PHOENIX-COMPACT Catalytic oxidation Downstream of the photooxidation is a catalyst which increases the efficiency of the photo-oxidation process. Due to the fixation of the pollutant molecules on the catalyst surface, the previously created activated oxygen can easily reach the adsorbed pollutant molecules and initiates radical decomposition of the pollutants. Furthermore, the catalyst ensures decomposition of excess ozone. If the waste air contains pollutant components which are especially difficult to oxidize, the newly developed PHOENIX COMPACT module is integrated in the PHOENIX system. The heart of the innovation is the honeycombed reaction channels coated with a photocatalyst. The polluted waste air is forced through the honeycombed reaction channels to ensure that there is intensive interaction of the UV irra- diation with the waste gas. The catalyst coating of the honeycomb walls provides large reaction surfaces in direct proximity to the UV irradiation. The UV-irradiation of the photocatalyst generates additional activated oxygen at the photocatalytic surface which helps to support the decomposition of pollutants. This combination of the PHOENIX-COMPACT PHOENIX-COMPACT-module module with classic PHOENIX technology results in a further increase in efficiency. Patented The secret of PHOENIX lies in the technically perfected realization of the operating principle. National and international patents safeguard this technological advantage and guarantee our customers the best professional performance. Promoted by: DEUTSCHE BUNDESSTIFTUNG UMWELT

For Special Applications Bypass system for odour elimination for waste gas temperatures > 60 C PHOENIX-Bypass-Technology If the temperature of the waste gas is above 60 C, it cannot undergo direct photo-oxidation. In this case, odour elimination is achieved via the so-called bypass system. With the aid of UVC irradiation and fresh air it is possible to produce a reaction gas (activated oxygen) containing radicals which is then injected into the waste air volume flow. The addition of this highly reactive gas to the hot waste air results in the oxidation of odours. The bypass system can be adapted to existing waste air chimneys which can then be used as a reaction channel. The bypass volume flow is max. 20 % of the waste air volume flow. 2 1 3 Benefits of photo-oxidation: Harmless gaseous reaction products Reduced investment, energy and maintenance costs Increased system service life Compact and modular design 4 5 No start-up times and thus higher flexibility No chemical additives No waste production Less maintenance (UV-lamps have to be replaced after 8,000 operating hours) 6 1 Polluted air 2 Bypass air 3 Dust filter 4 Photo-oxidation 5 Mixing chamber 6 Clean, odourless air Fields of application: Aerosol and fatty waste air Saturated water-vapour waste air Dust and fibre-containing waste air Waste gas temperatures of 60-250 C Decomposition of organic and inorganic components Reduction of odours

Realized Systems PHOENIX-kitchen system 12.500 m 3 /h Odour elimination for kitchen waste air PHOENIX 10.000 m 3 /h Decomposition of organic solvents from screen printing and electro-coating processes PHOENIX kitchen system 2 x 15.000 m 3 /h Odour elimination for deep fat fryer waste air from the production of potato crisps PHOENIX 500 m 3 /h Odour elimination for a waste water treatment plant The correct system size for each requirement The modular construction ensures that the system dimensions not only relate to the respective waste air pollution, but also to the quantity of air, pollutant concentration and composition.
