SOLUTION PROFILE Innovate With Information While Adopting Cloud, Your Way, At Your Own Pace Hitachi Cloud Solutions Hitachi Data Systems delivers secure, flexible, scalable and easy-to-manage cloud storage infrastructures that enable you to lower total cost of ownership, meet service level agreements, and improve operational efficiency. We also deliver fully managed cloud services so that you can reduce costs, improve efficiencies, and pay for only what is consumed. With Hitachi cloud solutions, you can leverage a choice of cloud delivery models, including private, public and hybrid. This selection allows you to achieve cost and resource benefits of the cloud in a way that makes sense for your business. As your content, data and analytics needs grow, our cloud solutions will be there to grow with them. Overview The ever-increasing complexity of data centers and the massive growth of data are taxing today s data centers. These increases, in turn, multiply the amount of compute capabilities and resources required to store, process, optimize and serve information back to end users. As they have attempted to address these issues, organizations have rapidly adopted virtualization. Now, they are looking to cloud delivery service models to reduce costs, increase flexibility, and improve their time to market. Cloud s ability to grow and contract storage resources, in concert with business needs, can reduce or eliminate upfront capital expenditure for underutilized assets. It also minimizes operational expenses due to continual data growth and management complexity. By deploying cloud models and leveraging cloud-managed services, organizations only pay for what they consume and eliminate the day-to-day management tasks, altogether. Most organizations are experiencing massive growth of data, such as business documents, files, computer aided design (CAD), computer aided manufacturing (CAM) and Web content. To address the growth, many organizations have built large network attached storage (NAS), Microsoft SharePoint and other application environments that have become increasingly complex to manage and costly to operate. Such environments also take precious resources away from the most active and frequently accessed data. For some organizations,

SOLUTION PROFILE a majority of the data residing in primary storage is either stale or not often needed to support business operations or decision-making. This data requires constant backup and management, which, in turn, consumes more capacity and IT resources. In addition, in many cases it resides on Tier 1 storage, causing the overall total cost of ownership (TCO) for this environment to be very high. Therefore, many organizations are challenged with: Cost of storing and managing stale data on primary storage. Proliferation of file and SharePoint servers, both local and remote. Poor utilization. Uneven cost to value ratio of data and storage. Increasing management costs and complexity. Slowing performance of primary systems. Massive expansion of backup volumes and shrinking backup windows. Choosing the right cloud solution can help organizations address these issues by providing cost-effective, efficient and well-managed storage options. The Hitachi Vision on Cloud Cloud is not a single product, but rather a way to provide IT services. The Hitachi Data Systems approach offers a comprehensive set of solutions and service offerings. This full selection allows you to choose the best possible solutions to address your cloud needs, at your own pace, while protecting your existing investments. Growing data needs demand solutions that can provide storage and management capabilities that are tailored to your specific requirements (which may be linked to your vertical industry, regulatory requirements, or other factors). These solutions must also be cost-effective and must be able to deliver the reliability you need to support your business. Ultimately, the cloud must enable you to leverage your data and content to create intelligence that supports business decision-making. The path begins with a highly efficient, virtualized cloud infrastructure (see Figure 1). It continues with a content platform that Figure 1. The Hitachi cloud solutions vision is to leverage infrastructure and content to derive business insight. separates data from the applications with which it is linked. This separation makes data fluid yet easily discoverable and searchable, so it is available when needed, regardless of where it physically resides. The ultimate vision is of an information cloud that supports the analytics you need to extract real business value from your data and content. Hitachi cloud solutions give you a variety of options to help manage the explosive growth of unstructured content. These solutions enable you to move legacy or lower value file data to cloud storage. The solutions use a private cloud model (located within your firewall or hosted and managed by HDS), or public and hybrid cloud options delivered by HDS or its partners. Regardless of the solution chosen, you can achieve the cost and flexibility benefits of the cloud while reducing either capital or operating expenditure (capex or opex), or both. Hitachi Platforms and Technologies Enable Cloud Solutions At the heart of our cloud solutions are a set of proven, cloud-enabled platforms that support the unified, virtualized and distributed environments common in organizations today. These environments form the foundation for private, public and hybrid cloud implementations. Two of these platforms are particularly important for storing and managing data, content and files: Hitachi Content Platform (HCP) and Hitachi Content Platform Anywhere (HCP Anywhere). Hitachi Content Platform Anywhere: Enterprise-Ready, Safe, File Sync and Share HCP Anywhere is a fully integrated, on-premises solution for safe, secure file sharing and synchronization. Built from end to end by Hitachi Data Systems, HCP Anywhere is enterprise and Internet ready. The software uses Hitachi Content Platform object store to store, protect, share, sync, secure and manage data in the most efficient, easily scalable and highest-density object storage platform. End users simply save a file to their HCP Anywhere folder and it will automatically synchronize to all of their registered devices and be available via popular Web browsers. Once saved to the HCP Anywhere folder, the file is protected, compressed, single instanced, encrypted, replicated and access controlled by the well-proven HCP. Deployment and setup is easy. Administrators can install HCP Anywhere onto HCP and import user permissions via Microsoft Active Directory. End users then can self-register using their Active Directory credentials and download the software for their particular devices either from the user portal or from the Apple itunes store for ios devices at https://itunes.apple.com/app/id577511005.

3 HCP Anywhere provides desktop applications for both Microsoft Windows and Apple Mac platforms. End users download the HCP Anywhere desktop applications from the HCP Anywhere user portal. Once they install the HCP Anywhere desktop application on their computers, all other users on the computer can use the application. However, each user can access only his or her own files. The desktop application creates a special folder named HCP Anywhere on the end user s computer and HCP Anywhere automatically synchronizes the contents of this folder with the end user s other devices. With HCP Anywhere: End users can store their work files with full data protection and easy recovery, and they can share the files with access-controlled links that can expire. IT gets simplified administration with built-in mobile device management, auditing and full integration with Active Directory. All files are stored deduplicated, compressed and backup-free in an on-premises object store. Organizations can reduce email storage and network payloads by sending links instead of attachments. File sync and share is easy to deploy and manage. No end user training required. Works with existing IT practices and processes. No backups needed. User self-service portal provided. The HCP Anywhere mobile application supports these mobile devices: Apple iphone 5. Apple iphone 4S. Apple ipad Mini. Apple ipad with Retina Display. Apple ipad 2. The HCP Anywhere mobile application requires the Apple ios v6.x operating system. Hitachi Content Platform: The Highly Scalable Object Store for the Cloud Hitachi Content Platform provides the highly scalable and reliable enterprise-class storage infrastructure as the core of Hitachi cloud solutions. HCP enables creation of an agile, unstructured content environment with general-purpose object stores that support a variety of services. With its multitenant object storage environment, HCP provides security and broad protocol support. These features allow organizations to gain the benefits of consolidation without compromising security or completely rewriting critical applications. HCP securely segregates data within different namespaces to prevent unauthorized access. HCP, as an online data repository, is a key foundational element for Hitachi cloud solutions. Some of its key cloud-enabled features include: Large-scale multitenancy. Up to 1,000 separate tenants are supported, each of which can be uniquely configured by a subscriber. www.hds.com/innovate Innovation is the engine of change, and information is its fuel. Innovate intelligently to lead your market, grow your company, and change the world. Manage your information with Hitachi Data Systems. Massive scale. HCP offers up to 40PB of storage, 80 nodes, 32 billion user objects, and 15 million files per directory on a single system, with the ability to add nodes or storage without disruption. Representative state transfer (REST) API support. Geographic dispersal and replication are supported, as well as data access based on namespaces, and metadata querying. Custom metadata. HCP enables more accurate content access. It provides the meaningful information needed to efficiently and intelligently process data and apply the right object policies to meet business, compliance and protection requirements. Fixed content archiving. Using writeonce, read-many (WORM) storage technology, HCP ensures that data in its repository cannot be updated or modified. The data is therefore guaranteed to be available unchanged when needed. Backup-free data protection and content preservation. HCP is a true backup-free platform. It protects content using a set of sophisticated data preservation technologies (including replication, metadata redundancy, and RAID protection). With its flexible, modular design, HCP allows administrators to scale up or down, on demand, with petabyte scaling potential, and avoid downtime associated upgrades and scale changes. With its flexibility, robust management and cloud storage operations capabilities, and strong support for multitenancy, HCP is a truly cloud ready platform.

SOLUTION PROFILE HDS Solutions for the Private Cloud Meet Today s Storage Challenges With Hitachi Technology HDS provides private cloud solutions that directly address today s storage challenges in a scalable, easily provisioned, pay-peruse approach. By leveraging a private cloud delivery model, organizations can reduce costs, allow seamless access to tiered data, simplify management and improve the efficiency and longevity of their primary NAS and SharePoint environments by: Moving legacy or lower value file data to cloud storage. Aligning payment to consumption (only paying for the storage that they consume when they consume it). Eliminating the need for any resources to manage the environment. The solution provides integrated, fully managed, usage-based services. These services move legacy or lower-value unstructured data into a cloud storage environment located within an organization s data center (see Figure 2). The data stays in the organization s data center, but the organization only pays for the storage that is used on a monthly subscription basis. Maintaining the data within the organization s environment ensures that existing security methodologies are maintained. The physical infrastructure in the organization s data center is remotely managed by Hitachi Data Systems through a secure connection. This remote management reduces management overhead and provides the necessary skills to optimize the storage environment. Requests for new storage can be fulfilled based on the policies set up front between Hitachi Data Systems and the organization. The storage is then remotely provisioned and managed by Hitachi Data Systems. Sophisticated Services Ease Your Transition to the Cloud HDS offers a number of cloud services that allow organizations to tier multiple, locally and remotely located NAS files and SharePoint content to their resident cloud infrastructure. Tiering may occur over a local high-speed network [local area network (LAN) or metro area network (MAN)], or over the wide area network (WAN) in the case or remote or branch offices. By deploying a cloud service delivery model, organizations are able to consume resources as a service and pay only for those resources they use. They can reduce the footprint of primary storage systems and avoid the need for tape backups. They can also gain capex HDS provides private cloud solutions that directly address today s storage challenges in a scalable, easily provisioned, pay-per-use approach. By leveraging a private cloud delivery model, organizations can reduce costs, allow seamless access to tiered data, simplify management and improve the efficiency and longevity of their primary NAS and SharePoint environments. and opex savings, simplify IT management, and begin the path to a true information cloud. In addition, once the data has been tiered to the cloud storage, Hitachi Data Systems can provide advanced data protection capabilities via replicated cloud storage. This approach ensures that your data is well protected and properly preserved. It enables greater savings by eliminating the need to make tape backups of infrastructure cloud data. HDS offers 3 private cloud services that organizations can take advantage of to make best use of the benefits of their private cloud storage solutions (see Figure 3): File Tiering. This service enables you to move inactive or low priority files off of your primary NAS environment and into your private cloud store or to different on-premise tiers if that is appropriate. File access is achieved via primary NAS by way of a stub file, which acts as a placeholder, allowing you to maintain online access to content. This service therefore helps improve the performance and scalability of primary NAS systems as well as backup and restore times. Figure 2. The Hitachi Data Systems private cloud solution moves legacy or lower value unstructured data into a cloud storage environment located within the organization s data center.

5 organization s IT resources. Hitachi Data Systems works within the organization s remote working access policy, while adhering to the relevant user administration policy and procedures. Because the private cloud solution is managed exclusively for the organization on their premises, the offering requires a minimum commitment in order to sign up. Then, the organization is billed monthly, based on actual storage consumption. Integrated reporting on the capacity and performance of the cloud storage environment is also provided. Figure 3. Sophisticated cloud storage services enable greater optimization and efficiency for several types of storage. Primary File Serving. Consumers of cloud services can be widely distributed geographically, even within a single organization. Providing file storage in this type of environment can be a significant challenge, a very time-consuming and expensive effort. This service delivers bottomless, backup-free file serving to the edge, providing both local cache so that frequently accessed content can easily be retrieved, and support for multiple tenants and namespaces. In this way, the cost and complexity of management and backup for this type of environment can be significantly reduced. Microsoft SharePoint Archiving. SharePoint is a popular mechanism for creating, managing and sharing content. Its wide use is considered to be a significant contributor to the growth of unstructured data in enterprises today. This data growth can lead to Microsoft SQL Server overload and SharePoint environment sprawl that can lead to compliance risk and reduced SharePoint efficiency. This policy-based service enables efficient storage, protection, and management of SharePoint data, resulting in a more efficient environment, reduced cost of ownership, and control over SharePoint data and metadata. These services provide you with effective on-ramps to leveraging a private cloud solution. They enable you to move and manage your data in the cloud without having to create these services yourself. Services for Remote Storage Management Many organizations are looking to reduce their management costs or lacking the resources, staff or expertise to implement and maintain their own storage infrastructure. Hitachi Data Systems can remotely manage these infrastructures, providing cost-effective best practice monitoring, reporting and provisioning capabilities for storage management. A comprehensive set of remote storage management capabilities with the ability to provision storage as well as monitor the storage environment helps organizations fill expertise and staff gaps cost-effectively and quickly, with greater organizational flexibility. The skilled managed services staff from Hitachi Data Systems gains secure access to an organization s environment. This access may be accomplished via VPN, Citrix or WebEx connectivity as a remote user, based on the organization s security protocols. Essentially, the HDS staff becomes an extension of the HDS Solutions for the Public Cloud As organizations look to move their data to the cloud, many begin with a private cloud. This choice may be driven by a variety of factors: They may wish to maintain greater control of their applications and data, and may possess the resources and skills to build and maintain a private cloud infrastructure. Regulatory issues may compel them to keep their data in house if they cannot find a public cloud provider that can meet their requirements. Or, they may already possess the capital assets they need to build a private cloud and have a financial incentive to continue their use. For others, the public cloud may be a better option. IT resources may be more scarce or less skilled in areas needed to support a private cloud. However, a public cloud can help free up these resources to focus on more business critical needs and efforts focused more on innovation. Even those organizations that first implement private clouds may look into public cloud. As they learn more about the regulatory, privacy and security issues affecting their data, as well as how and when their data is used, they may determine that a public cloud can also offer significant benefits. This hybrid cloud approach may be the right fit where some data and content simply should not leave the data center. In addition to providing private cloud solutions, HDS also gives organizations a variety of options to leverage the public cloud.

SOLUTION PROFILE 1 fully managed cloud service called Hitachi Cloud Service for Content Archiving. This service provides the ability to: Move content from primary storage into cloud storage.
