AS per the no. 11905/Acd-I dated 12.12.2013 Universities recognized by Distance council of India has been deleted consequent upon dissolution of Distance council of India by UGC. Thus at present the degrees awarded by IGNOU and state Open through distance mode are considered equivalent with corresponding degree of this university. But there are many state universities /UGC recognized universities and institutions 14
offers degrees through distance mode through Open and Distance Learning (ODL) programme. 3. Further the UGC public notice No. F-27-1/2012(CCP-II) dated 24 th.june 2013 prescribed guidelines for conduct of Open and Distance Learning (ODL) programme by the universities/ Institutions in brief, considering the above, the followings has been approved: (i) (ii) (iii) (iv) In case of degrees offered by institutions approved by the Government the regular degrees offered by 1) All IITs (2) All IIMs and (3) All NITs (4) BITS, Pilani (5) Indian Institute of Science, Bengaluru (6) Indian Statistical Institute, Kolkata (7) Tata Institute of Fundamental Research, Mumbai & (8) Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology, Thiruvananthapuram, be considered equivalent with corresponding degrees of this university. Further the M.Tech. Degree of Academy of Scientific and Innovative Research, New Delhi be treated as equivalent with corresponding degrees of this university as per approval of the Vice- Chancellor as on 10.9.2014. The degrees offered by such other Institutes established by Central Governments/ State Governments shall be considered by degree/ institution basis when referred to Equivalence Committee. A committee be constituted to identify degrees / institutions to make the equivalent list clear and specific. Till then only the regular degrees of Central or State Government who are member of AIU be considered equivalent with corresponding degrees of this university. Degrees awarded by Private Universities/Private institutions declared as Deemed to be may be taken up on degree/ university/ institution basis. With regard to examination of degrees awarded by Private Universities/Private institutions all care be taken that, the particular degree has not been offered / obtained through off-campus /franchises and agencies by Universities/ Institutions beyond their territorial jurisdiction as per their respective statutes and which have not been recognized by DEU/UGC. as stated in the Public Notice issued by UGC in 15
(v) 2012 and the onus of ascertainment for such cases shall put down upon the applicant/ university/ institution concerned. Degrees offered by Central/ State/ private Universities/Institutions on distance mode recognized by DEB prior to dissolution of Distance council of India by UGC may be treated as equivalent. However, such degrees must not have been awarded through unapproved off-campus/ study center/ franchise arrangement and outside the territorial jurisdiction. The onus of ascertainment for such shall lie on the applicant/ university/ institution concerned. Prior to recognizing such a degree it may be ensured that, Distance council of India has permitted for running the course for the particular year / from the particular center on distance mode. This be considered on particular degree basis; not on general basis. 16
