Professional Engineers Board www.peb.gov.sg PEB is a statutory body and it registers and licenses professional engineers, as well as corporations which supply professional engineering services in Singapore. The Professional Engineers Board (PEB) regulates the practice of professional engineering work in the 3 prescribed branches of professional engineering work. Privileges 10. (1) Subject to the provisions of this Act, no person shall engage in any of the prescribed branches of professional engineering work in Singapore or draw or prepare any plan, sketch, drawing, design, specification or other document relating to any of the prescribed branches of professional engineering work in Singapore unless the person (a) is a registered professional engineer who has in force a practising certificate authorising him to engage in that branch of professional engineering work; (b) is under the direction or supervision of a registered professional engineer who has in force a practising certificate authorising the professional engineer to engage in that branch of professional engineering work; or (c) is authorised by the Board to work in collaboration (but without a right to any independent practice) with a registered professional engineer who has in force a practising certificate authorising the registered professional engineer to engage in that branch of professional engineering work.
Privileges 10 - (2) Subject to the provisions of this Act, no person shall sign and submit to a building authority or to a public authority (as defined in section 3 (2)) (a) any plan, sketch, drawing, design, specification or other document relating to any professional engineering work in Singapore; or (b) any report on or a certificate or other document relating to any professional engineering work in Singapore which is required by any written law to be signed by a professional engineer, unless the person is a registered professional engineer who has in force a practising certificate authorising him to engage in such profession engineering work; and any document that is signed in contravention of this subsection shall be invalid.
Privileges 10 - (3) Subject to the provisions of this Act, no person shall use verbally or otherwise (a) the words professional engineer or any additions to or abbreviation or derivative of those words in connection with his designation; (b) the word engineer or the abbreviation Er. or Engr. as a title before his name; or (c) any word, name or designation that will lead to the belief that the person is a registered professional engineer, unless the person is a registered professional engineer.
Professional Engineering Work Any professional service, consultation, investigation, evaluation, planning, design, or responsible supervision of construction or operation in connection with any public or privately owned public utilities, buildings, machines, equipment, processes, works or projects wherein the public interest and welfare, or the safeguarding of life, public health or property is concerned or involved, and that requires the application of engineering principles and data
Registration of Professional Engineer Recognized academic qualifications, Adequate practical experience, and Pass prescribed examinations. Pass an interview.
Academic Qualification A degree or qualification as listed in the Professional Engineers (Approved Qualifications) Notification. Other qualifications may be considered by the PEB on a case by case basis.
Practical Experience An applicant would need to acquire not less than 4 years of practical experience after obtaining the approved qualifications. The practical experience should be in such professional engineering work and at such level of responsibility as to be sufficiently competent for registration.
Examinations An applicant would also need to sit and pass the Fundamentals of Engineering Examination and Practice of Professional Engineering Examination conducted by PEB. A person may sit for the Fundamentals of Engineering Examination after he has obtained an approved degree or qualification. After he has passed that examination and acquired not less than 4 years of practical experience he may sit for the Practice of Professional Engineering Examination. Open book exams

Professional Practice Examination ( PPE) PPE tests the applicant s ability to apply his knowledge and experience in professional engineering practice, and his knowledge of the rules and regulations regulating the practice of professional engineering in civil, electrical or mechanical engineering. Practising Certificate For a professional engineer to engage in professional engineering work in Singapore, he would need to have a practising certificate (PC). PC, issued by PEB, is renewal on an annual basis and authorizes a PE to engage in professional engineering work within the branch of engineering that he is qualified to practise. As part of the process of renewing his PC, a professional engineer is required to fulfill requirements relating to continuing professional development.
Registration of Specialist Professional Engineers PEB also registers specialist professional engineers in specialized branches of engineering. At the moment, a professional engineer in civil engineering who has a valid practicing certificate and meets requirements in terms of qualifications and practical experience in geotechnical engineering may apply to be registered as a specialist professional engineer in geotechnical engineering.
