Welcome Thank you for choosing the Cisco SR 520-T1. The SR 520-T1, part of the Cisco Small Business Pro series, is a unified communications solution for small businesses that addresses the data T1 access needs of small business customers for data, voice, and video applications. This guide describes how to install your SR 520-T1 and how to launch the Configuration Utility and Cisco Configuration Assistant (CCA). 1 Before You Begin Before you begin the installation, make sure that you have the following: Cables Ethernet cable for connecting LAN port to your administration computer (supplied). T1 cable for connecting the T1 port to your T1 source. An administration computer running: Windows Vista, or Windows XP (Service Pack 2) operating system Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.0 or later Adobe Flash Player version 9.0.124 or later A registered account on Cisco.com. You need this so that you can download the CCA software necessary to configure your SR 520-T1. A number-2 Phillips screwdriver to connect the ground ring terminal to the chassis. Wire crimper to attach the ring terminal to a ground wire. Wire for connecting the chassis to ground: AWG 14 (2 mm 2 ) or larger wire for NEC-compliant chassis grounding. AWG 18 (1 mm 2 ) or larger wire for EN/IEC 60950-compliant chassis grounding. A ring terminal with an inner diameter of 1/4 in. 2 Getting to Know the SR 520-T1 The SR 520-T1 includes: WAN/T1 port 2 LAN ports Console port The SR 520-T1 can be installed in various types of network configurations. For information about planning, designing, and deploying the SR 520-T1 in your network, refer to the Smart Business Communications System Design Guide and Smart Business Communications System Basic Implementation Guide available on Cisco.com. See the documentation links in Where to Go From Here, on page 14. Front Panel The front panel contains the power (OK), LAN, and T1 status lights. OK LAN 0 1 CD T1 AL 194581 LED Description OK Solid green indicates normal operation. Blinking green indicates the SR 520-T1 is in the boot up phase. LAN 0 Solid or blinking green indicates LAN Activity on port 0. LAN 1 Solid or blinking green indicates LAN Activity on port 1. T1 CD Solid green indicates T1 carrier detect. Back Panel Cisco SR520-T1 WAN/T1 1 LAN 0 12V DC SA 194579 WAN/T1 Port LAN Ports Console Port 12V DC Power On/Off Security Switch Slot Feature Description WAN/T1 port Use this port to connect the router to your T1. LAN port 0 Use this port to connect the router to your UC500, switch, or other network device. Use LAN port 0 to configure the SR 520-T1. LAN port 1 Use this port to connect the router to your UC500, switch, or other network device. This port is disabled by default. CONSOLE/AUX port Use this port to connect a console. Used in conjunction with the supplied console cable for disaster recovery. 12V DC Power Use this port to connect the power adapter. On/Off switch Use this switch to power the SR 520-T1 on or off. Security slot (Kensington type) Use this slot to connect a lock and cable to physically secure your router. CAUTION Use the LAN 0 port for administrative use. The LAN 1 port is a separate network and disabled by default. 3 Installing the SR 520-T1 NOTE Before proceeding, consider the location of the equipment with respect to reliable earth ground in accordance with local electrical safety standards. Placement Tips Storage Temperature (sea level) -40 F to 158 F (-40 C to +70 C) Operating Temperature (sea level) 32 F to 104 F (0 C to +40 C) Relative Humidity (sea level) 5 to 95% RH You can install the SR 520-T1 on a desktop or mount it in a rack. CAUTION Do not place anything on top of the router that weighs more than 5 pounds (2.25 kg), and do not stack routers on a desktop. WAN/T1 1 LAN 0 CONSOLE 12V DC SA Rack Mounting NOTE With the optional rack mounting kit, Cisco part number 700-27163-01, you can install the SR 520-T1 in a rack. STEP 1 STEP 2 Use four Phillips head screws to attach each bracket to the SR 520-T1 as illustrated. Install the router on the rack by using the screws required by your rack. AUX 194627 Grounding the Chassis Connect the chassis to a reliable earth ground in accordance with local electrical safety standards. For NEC-compliant grounding, use size AWG 14 (2 mm 2 ) or larger wire and an appropriate ring terminal. STEP 1 STEP 2 Strip one end of the ground wire and connect it to a ring terminal using a crimp tool. Attach a ring terminal to the chassis. Use a number-2 Phillips screwdriver, and tighten the screws to a torque of 8 to 10 in-lb (0.9 to 1.1 N-m). 4 Connecting the Equipment STEP 1 STEP 2 Connect the included power cord to the 12V DC Power port on the SR 520-T1. To secure the power cord to the SR 520-T1, attach the Power Cord Locking Latch to the power cord, and slide the clip to the end of the plug. Refer to the illustration below. STEP 5 Connect a cable from your T1 jack to the WAN/T1 port on the back panel of your SR 520-T1. NOTE STEP 6 Connect either a T1 straight-through cable (identical to an Ethernet straight-through cable), or a T1 crossover cable. The cable that you use depends on the type of termination of the wiring at your site. Connect an Ethernet cable from your administration computer to the LAN 0 port of the SR 520-T1. CAUTION Do not connect your administration computer to the LAN 1 port on the SR 520-T1. NOTE When your administration computer is plugged into LAN 0, it will be configured on subnet 75 via DHCP. 5 Verifying the Hardware Installation To verify the hardware installation, complete the following tasks: Check the OK LED status. The LED should be solid green indicating that the SR 520-T1 has power and is ready to use. Check the LAN 0 LED status. The LED should be solid green or blinking green to indicate that the SR 520-T1 is connected to the administration computer. 6 Getting Started with the Configuration SR 520-T1 Configuration Utility The SR 520-T1 Configuration Utility guides you through the steps needed to configure the SR 520-T1. NOTE Before starting the SR 520-T1 Configuration Utility, obtain the T1 connection information from your service provider. Ensure that your administration computer is running the following software: Windows Vista, or Windows XP (Service Pack 2) operating system Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.0 or later Adobe Flash Player version 9.0.124 or later Cisco Small Business Pro SR 520-T1 Secure Router Quick Start Guide 11

STEP 1 STEP 2 STEP 3 Start a web browser on your computer, and enter the following URL: http://192.168.75.1/setup The browser displays the first page of the SR 520-T1 Configuration Utility. The Configuration Utility will guide you through the installation process; follow the on-screen instructions. Default user name: cisco Default password: cisco When you reach the ApplyAndTest page of the Configuration Utility, click Apply and Test. Follow the on-screen instructions to resolve any issues if necessary. After you have successfully completed the Configuration Utility, the Congratulations screen appears. 7 Suggested Next Steps The SR 520-T1 is pre-configured with default settings that allow you to begin using the device right away. However, you might want to change the default settings or perform other tasks using Cisco Configuration Assistant (CCA). Downloading Cisco Configuration Assistant Cisco Configuration Assistant is a PC-based application that Cisco provides free-of-charge to simplify the task of configuring, deploying, and administering the SR 520-T1 and the other components of the Cisco Smart Business Pro family. STEP 1 STEP 2 STEP 3 Start a web browser, and enter the following address (Cisco log on required): http://www.cisco.com/go/configassist Click Download Software link. On the Download page, be sure to choose Cisco Configuration Assistant. NOTE Ensure that you choose Cisco Configuration Assistant version 2.0.1 or later. STEP 4 STEP 5 STEP 6 After the file is downloaded, run the Installer (EXE file). Ensure that an Ethernet cable is connected from your administration computer to the LAN 0 port of the SR 520-T1. Follow the instructions to install the CCA on your administration computer.
