Agilent Mobile WiMAX R&D Test Set Solutions: Software and Technical Support Contract Product Overview Maximize the potential of the E6651A Mobile WiMAX test set and related software with the latest software features and direct access to technical experts The E6651A Mobile WiMAX Test Set allows 802.16e-2005 mobile station designers and manufacturers to move rapidly from development to volume production, and to improve the integrity and quality of products while reducing cost. The Agilent N6430A Protocol Development and Conformance solutions deliver a comprehensive suite of test solutions for Mobile WiMAX network conformance test (NCT), protocol conformance test (PCT) and development testing. The N6430A series leverages the base station emulation and RF interface capabilities of the E6651A Mobile WiMAX test set, providing protocol solutions for both base stations and mobile stations. Software and technical support contracts (STSCs) are now available for these Mobile WiMAX R&D test solutions. The STSCs entitle you to software updates, feature enhancements and access to product experts for technical support. This enables you to keep pace with fast-moving developments in WiMAX, maximize the potential of your powerful R&D tools and protect your investment throughout the product lifetime. Software and Technical Support Contract (STSC) Overview STSCs entitle you to software updates and feature enhancements, as well as direct access to a technical expert for technical support for a fixed period, usually one year. The STSC for the E6651A covers the E6651A Mobile WiMAX test set firmware, the N6421A WiMAX protocol logging and analysis software, the E6655A WiMAX lab application and the N6422C/N6423C WiMAX wireless test manager software. Figure 1: STSCs and supported products The N6430A protocol development and conformance products have separate software and technical support contracts. N6430A Protocol Development and Conformance solutions are only supported with corresponding E6651A firmware releases. Therefore, N6430A customers must purchase both PCT/NCT and E6651A STSCs to ensure compatibility with E6651A and validated PCT or NCT test cases releases. Software Support The STSC entitles you to the latest firmware and software releases, which include feature enhancements and defect fixes for the period of the STSC contract. N6422C and N6423C WiMAX wireless test manager users will need to enter a password, provided with the WTM product delivery, in order to download the WTM software. PCT or NCT users will also need to enter a password, provided at the time of software license redemption, to download the latest PCT or NCT software. Technical Support The STSC gives you direct access to technical product experts to increase your productivity and minimize the software difficulties you encounter. These technical support engineers are experts on the N6430A PCT software, E6651A WiMAX test set and its complementary software products. They have instant access to instruments and software to enable them to resolve your issues as quickly as possible. Agilent will investigate all software defects and operational problems reported through the technical support channel. Upon completion of the investigation, we will advise you on possible solutions, functional alternatives etc. Where possible, Agilent will provide software releases to address problems caused by defects in the firmware or software. There are three methods of accessing your technical support: Web-based support: My Support Center E-mail support Phone support For fastest response times, we recommend using the web-based or email access methods as these provide the most direct route to your technical support expert. All support cases may be viewed and tracked through the online support center (My Support Center), regardless of how you initially contacted technical support. Web-based support: MySupportCenter You can directly enter and manage your support requests online via www.agilent.com/find/mysupportcenter My Support Center Figure 5: My Support Center web page The first time you use My Support Center you will be asked to create a profile and provide proof of entitlement. Once your profile is created, you can use the online support center to enter your support request. Each support request will be given a unique case number which you can use to track the progress of your support case. A technical expert will contact you via phone or email (whichever you have stated as your preferred option) to resolve your issue. English, Japanese, Korean, and Mandarin local language support is available. Licensing and Software Compatibility STSCs are licensed to the product and not an individual user. After you order your STSC, you will receive a license entitlement certificate with details on how to redeem your license.. You will redeem your license via the Agilent Software Licensing webpage. You will be asked to: enter your Agilent order number and your Agilent Certificate number (both of which are on your license entitlement certificate) choose the STSC product you want to redeem (there may be more than one product on your license entitlement certificate) enter either the serial number of the E6651A test set (for E6651A-1SY) or the serial number of the PCT USB license dongle (for N6432A-1TY, N6434A-1TY or N6442A-1TY). You will then be sent an email containing your license file and, for PCT customers, the password to the PCT software downloads website. You must install this license file in the E6651A instrument (for E6651A STSC) or on the USB license dongle (for N6430A PCT STSCs), before you can install new firmware or software or access the technical support channels. The license redemption and installation processes are covered in the start-up assistance services for the E6651A and N6430A PCT software. Figure 6: Redeeming your license Customers who bought an E6651A before July 1st 2008 are entitled to E6651A software and technical support until July 1st 2009. For these instruments, the E6651A STSC license will be installed when firmware revision 5.3.3.0 and above, or firmware revision 6.3.3.0 and above, is installed. No redemption process via Agilent Software Licensing is required. 6
Licensing and Software Compatibility (continued) The E6651A STSC license resides in the E6651A test set and is tied to the instrument serial number. Before new firmware is downloaded to the instrument, the firmware installer will check that a valid STSC license is present before allowing the firmware to be installed. If the installer does not detect a valid license, for example, the original license expired before the release of the new firmware, it will display a message, similar to the one below, informing you that you cannot install the new firmware. You must then purchase a new license to enable you to install new firmware releases and access technical support. Figure 7: E6651A firmware installer checks for a valid license The E6655A WiMAX lab application, N6421A WiMAX protocol logging and analysis software and the N6422C/N6423C WiMAX wireless test manager software operate with compatible E6651A instrument firmware. You should ensure you are using compatible instrument firmware and software versions, details of which are given on the E6651A firmware download webpage and in the firmware and software release notes. N6430A PCT or NCT STSC contracts are licensed via a USB dongle. N6430A protocol development and conformance solutions are only supported with compatible E6651A firmware releases. Therefore, N6430A customers must purchase both PCT/NCT and E6651A STSCs to ensure compatibility with E6651A and validated PCT/NCT test cases releases. 7
Renewals You will be notified 90 days prior to the expiry date of the E6651AS-1SY STSC license, by a pop-up window in the E6651A. Figure 8: Expiry notification warning of E6651A STSC N6432A-1TY, N6434A-1TY and N6442A-1TY STSC customers will be notified by a similar pop-up window in the N6430A software when there are less than 90 days left on the PCT or NCT STSC license. If you do not renew your E6651A STSC license before its expiry date, you will receive a message, similar to the following one, on the E6651A. Figure 9: Expired E6651A STSC license You can continue to use existing firmware and software after your STSC has expired, but you will not be able to install E6651A firmware releases or PCT/NCT software releases created after this expiry date, or access technical support, until a new STSC license is installed. 8
Start-up Assistance Agilent offers start-up assistance services to enable you to rapidly learn and utilize the capabilities of the E6651A, N6430A PCT software and related software products. One day of start-up assistance is mandatory for first time purchase of the E6651A. Two days of start-up assistance is mandatory for first time purchase of the N6430A PCT software - this includes one day of assistance on the E6651A. STSC license redemption and installation processes are included in the start-up assistance. Further details on start-up assistance are available on request. Additional days of start-up assistance can be provided as required. Hardware Warranty The E6651A hardware is warranted against defects in materials and workmanship for a period of one year from the date of delivery. During the warranty period, Agilent will, at its discretion, repair or replace the defective E6651A hardware covered by this warranty. Extended warranty periods of three years and five years are available at the time of E6651A purchase. The purchase or renewal of the E6651A or the N6430A PCT STSCs does not impact on the hardware warranty of the E6651A test set.
