Gates Millennium Scholars: The Gates Millennium Scholars is aimed at increasing the number of low-income African Americans, Asian Pacific Americans, American Indians/Alaska Natives, and Hispanic Americans enrolling in and completing graduate degree programs. Gates Millennium Scholars must be nominated: Nominees who are graduate students must have been accepted into or be enrolled in a degree program in engineering, mathematics, science, education or library science. MALDEF Scholarships: The Mexican American Legal Defense and Education Fund awards several law school scholarships to Latino students in their first, second or third year of law school, and communications scholarships to students pursuing a graduate or professional degree in the field of communications, including print and broadcast journalism or electronic communications. http://www.maldef.org/ NM-AGEP: Fellowship Funded by the National Science Foundation, the New Mexico Alliance for Graduate Education and the Professoriate (NM-AGEP) is an alliance of the three New Mexico doctoral-granting universities: the University of New Mexico, New Mexico Tech, and New Mexico State University. Award amount $2500 www.ada.org Colgate "Bright Smiles, Bright Futures" Minority Scholarship: Sponsored by Colgate Palmolive Company, these scholarships are awarded to members of minority groups currently underrepresented in dental hygiene programs at the certificate educational level. Example eligible applicants include: African Americans, Hispanics, Asians, Native Americans, and males. Award amount $1,250 www.adha.org Colgate-Palmolive/HDA Foundation Hispanic Graduate Education Scholarship: A new scholarship program for Hispanic students entering or participating in a Masters in Public Health Program or Advanced Education in Dental Public Health Program. DENTAL SCHOOL & HEALTH PROGRAMS CONT D Cora Aguda Manayan Fund - Hawai i Community Foundation: Applicants to these scholarships must be majoring in a health-related field and preference is given to students of Filipino ancestry studying in Hawaii. Students must be pursuing a degree in a health related profession or be a junior or senior in college planning to get a masters in social work or physical therapy. SOCIAL WORK CONT D Council on Social Work Education Minority Fellowship Program: The Minority Fellowship Program (MFP) supports students in completing their doctoral degrees in the field of social work. The Mental Health and Substance Abuse Fellowship Program (MHSAFP): The Mental Health/Substance Abuse Fellowship Program is designed for social workers, with a social work master's degree, who are preparing for leadership, teaching, consulting, training, policy development, and administration in mental health and substance abuse with ethnic minorities. EDUCATION Catching The Dream MESBEC Program: Formerly known as the Native American Scholarship Fund, Catching the Dream (CTD Provides scholarships for high-potential Native American students in Math, Engineering, Science, Business, Education, and Computers (MESBEC). Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial Scholarship: For ethnic minority members of the California Teachers Association, their dependent children, and ethnic minority members of Student California Teachers Association who want to pursue degrees or credentials in public education. Minimum award amount: $1000. Maximum award amount: $2000. Hazel McBride Scholarship 20 - $1,000 - scholarships divided as evenly possible between elementary and secondary majors with three set aside for minority students. Frank Kazmierczak Memorial Migrant Scholarship: Offers an annual award in the amount of $1,000 for post-secondary scholarship assistance to a migrant student who wishes to pursue a career in teaching.
