ZS-V, July 2014 BMW INDIVIDUAL MANUFAKTUR. PAINTWORK COLLECTION GUIDE.
INTRODUCTION I. This collection guide gives a brief overview of BMW Special Request colours and thus shows the variety of possibilities to personalize the costumers BMW automobile. These colour samples and images are meant to give you a first impression of paints and materials. Experience has shown, however, that printed or online versions of paintworks cannot always faithfully reproduce the appearance of the originals. Please note that not all colours are available on all models. Please refer to the National Sales Office for details. Page 2
INTRODUCTION II. BMW Special Request exterior paintworks are as multilayered as a diamond. The rich interplay of colours creates a sublime shimmering effect and a fascinating luminous intensity. One surface brings three-dimensional depth of colour, millions of pigments and countless luminous facets. A variety of finishes are available including non-metallic, metallic, or pearl which uses a mixture of synthetic mica flakes to produce scintillating effects. Even more striking is the matt finish of the Frozen paintwork which has a unique shimmer, making the contours of a BMW even more exciting and underlining the sculptural character of the vehicle. Customers can select from a wide variety of exclusive premium colours or choose to specify their own unique shade. Page 3
PAINT TYPE GUIDE. Non-metallic This is the base paint used for all other types and does not contain any metallic flakes. Uses very small flakes of aluminium to give the car an obvious shine when they reflect the light. The colour does not change when looked at from a different angle. These flakes are relatively uniform in size and are evenly mixed with the base paint. Pearl (Titaniumoxyd and Xyrallic) Uses small flakes of mica, a synthetic material that resembles the sheen of a natural pearl. These particles do not reflect light and instead act like small prisms by letting light pass through them and refracting it evenly throughout the surface. As such the colour appears to change depending on the angle. The mica particles are uniform in size and are mixed with the base paint. Frozen First introduced by BMW in 2009, Frozen paintworks use silicates in a clear-coat finish as a matting agent to achieve the velvety-matt surface effect. Because of the unique nature of these finishes and the complex production process, they are produced in limited quantities and require particular maintenance and cleaning, but represent a stunning and unique paint effect. ORDERING OVERVIEW. BMW paintworks are divided into two types: SABI SABI paintworks are available to order within the configurator and can be selected just like normal production paint finishes. Pricing is displayed there. 490 Special request paintworks use the generic code 490. The specific colour code is then supposed to be filled into IVS. These exclusive paintworks require confirmation and pricing directly from the NSC. Page 5

MATT PAINTWORK CLEANING AND MAINTENANCE. Due to their unique surface, Matt paints require a different cleaning and care procedure to normal paint finishes. In particular they must not be polished or waxed. Beyond this however, matt paintworks are designed to be as resilient as normal metallic paintwork finishes and can even be taken through a normal car wash (so long as no waxing is included within the selected programme). Further information on matt paint care can be found here: http://www.m-power.com/_open/s/editorial.jsp?id=2827&lang=en A range of BMW matt paint products are also available via part number: Matt paint special shampoo 83 12 2 293 868 Matt paint special cleaner 83 12 2 293 869 Matt paint special express wax 83 12 2 293 871 Matt paint special nano wax 83 12 2 293 872 Matt paint application set 83 12 2 293 874 Page 107
