Lummi Higher Education Grant Award Information Lummi Indian Business Council Mission: To preserve, promote and protect our Schelangen. Introduction: In ig8g, as a part of the Lummi Indian Business Council s (LIBC) Self Determination efforts, the Lummi Nation requested and accepted responsibility for the Lummi Higher Education Grant from the Bureau of Indian Affairs (ma). The Lummi Indian Business Council believes that direct involvement by the Nation in the priorities and administration of the Grant will assist the Lummi Nation towards its goals, while making the program more accessible to Lummi Students. The funding available through the BIA does not meet the minimum need of the Lummi People, so the LIBC augments those funds with tribal funding. Eligibility: Lummi Higher Education Grant Program is not an entitlement program or a right. All applicants must meet the eligibility requirements in order to qualify for a LH E Grant Award. V To be eligible for a Lummi Higher Education Grant, applicants must first apply for institution-sponsored and Department of Education financial aid program (also known as FAFSA). A signed needs analysis from the college or university s financial aid office must be in an applicant file with each request for funding. V Enrolled Lummi Tribal Member, or person of ¾ degree total blood quantum who is eligible for enrollment at Lummi, not enrolled in another tribe and has made application for Lummi enrollment. V Enrolled, or accepted for admission in an accredited institution. Verification required. V Demonstration of high school graduation or equivalent V Good Academic Standing (2.00 GPA or better) V Vocational Students Students pursuing a two-year certificate vocational program must apply for the Employment Assistance/Adult Vocational Training program, if available. To be eligible for assistance, the certificate program must be administered at an accredited institution. Students are eligible for Grant Assistance certificate programs up to 2-years in length after which time they are only eligible for 2-or 4-year degree programs. Award Amounts: Student registered with a Full-Time (Fr) course load are eligible for FT Community or Technical College $5,000 per year FT University $6,000 per year FT Masters Degree $7,000 per year FT Doctorate Degree $7,000 per year Full-time is defined as twelve (12) credits or more for undergraduate degrees, and eight (8) credits or more for graduate degrees. Deadlines: A) Annualized Funding 1. Augusti Students who submit a complete application by this date will be eligible for annualized funding. Once approved for annualized funding, the student may elect to use grant funds for three (3) quarters or two (2) semesters of the school year. 2. Or if a student plans to apply annualized funding to summer quarter or semester they must declare that to both the Lummi Higher Education Program and their Financial Aid Office.
