YOUR BRIDGE TO CANADIAN UNIVERSITIES & COLLEGES We have partnerships with universities and colleges in Nova Scotia and beyond. This means you have more choices for your post-secondary studies in Canada. Name a program of study, you will find it from one of our partners! And you do not have to take a TOEFL, IELTS or other standardized test! If you do not currently have a high enough TOEFL or IELTS score, we can help you get a conditional acceptance to one of our partner universities. First apply to ALCC and then send your ALCC acceptance letter with your university application. Or, register with ALCC and have us apply to the university for you. The university will decide if you meet their academic admission requirements. If you do, they will send you a conditional letter of acceptance with the condition that you complete the University Bridging Program (UBP) at ALCC before starting university. With this conditional letter of acceptance from the university and the letter of acceptance from ALCC, you can then apply for your Canadian study permit (visa). At ALCC, there are 5 levels of English for Academic Purposes (EAP) and each level takes 8 weeks to complete before entering UBP. The UBP is offered in 3 modules and can be finished in 12 weeks. Your level is based on an ALCC placement test score or a recent TOEFL or IELTS score and an interview. As an EAP/UBP student, you prepare for academic studies by learning and practicing the skills needed in university/college such as attending lectures, doing extensive reading, seminars, writing papers, working on group projects, giving presentations, and taking exams. University campus and library visits are also offered to help you get familiar with university life and gain research skills. In the UBP, you will usually study part-time at a university and part-time at ALCC. This gives you the chance to use and refine the skills you gained throughout EAP and UBP in the real world and ensures a smooth transition from learning English to academic studies. After successfully completing UBP, you will be accepted as a full-time student at one of our partner institutions, without further language testing: Saint Mary s University (www.smu.ca) Mount Saint Vincent University (www.msvu.ca) NSCAD University (www.nscad.ca) Laurentian University (www.ulaurentian.ca) University of Regina (www.uregina.ca) Please check their website or contact us for program details on our partner institutions.
