Under the plan, you are covered from the first dollar of legal liability up to the policy limit for a covered occurrence when there is no underlying insurance requirement. Also, if you are temporarily outside the United States, you are only required to obtain the maximum underlying limits available in that country if less than the plan requirements. Covers all your household family members at no additional premium You are covered under the plan, and so are your spouse and other household family members. They get the same basic protection you enjoy, with no restriction on the number or ages of family members. Children away at school are considered as residents of your household and are also covered. And even actions of your household pet you are responsible for are covered. Provides broad coverage on your residence In addition to your residence, a vacation home, condominium, and properties you rent as a place to live are covered provided each one does not exceed a four-family dwelling. The number or types of cars has no effect on your premium Your single premium automatically covers all the cars you own and any new or additional cars as well as a variety of recreational vehicles. Snowmobiles and boats are also covered. Adds other liability protection The plan supplies you with personal liability coverage for claims arising from libel, slander, and false arrest. 24-hour, worldwide coverage You can travel anywhere at any time, knowing you didn t leave your personal liability protection back at home. Flexible enrollment Coverage starts on the first of any month and continues through the policy year ending June 30. If you start on a date other than July 1, your premium is prorated.

Personal Liability Umbrella insurance is designed to provide you with added liability protection above and beyond the limits on homeowners, auto, and watercraft personal insurance policies. Who is eligible for coverage; who underwrites this coverage; and how much liability protection is available? Any member of the College (excluding medical students) can apply for this coverage. It is underwritten by Columbia Casualty Company (surplus excess non-admitted) a CNA company, which is one of the largest property and casualty underwriters in the U.S. and rated A (excellent) by A.M. Best. You may apply for $1 million, $2 million, or $5 million with a premium rate that is progressively lower. When can I apply for coverage and where am I covered? You can apply any time during the year. The plan renews annually July 1st. Policies are issued on the 1st of every month with a pro-rated premium charged after the application is approved. Even though your underlying coverage may have geographic restrictions, your plan gives you 24-hour worldwide coverage. Is underwriting required for this coverage? No, underwriting is not required. Students are not eligible for this coverage. Any member is ineligible if the member or a relative of the member living in the member s household had a DUI, DWI, or a suspended license in the past three years. Who is covered under the Personal Liability Umbrella Insurance Plan? The member and spouse are insured under the plan as well as any relatives living in your household and pets. This plan covers all of these household members and pets at no extra charge. In addition, your children away at school are considered as residents of your household and are covered under the policy. Must I have a minimum amount of coverage on my primary auto and homeowners policies? Yes, you must carry $250,000/$500,000 for bodily injury, $50,000 for property damage under your auto policy, and $300,000 of liability coverage under your homeowners or rental policy. Please see other minimum requirements shown in the application. In addition to my primary residence, are rental housing properties covered under the Personal Liability Umbrella Insurance Plan? Qualifying rental housing property is covered provided each one does not exceed a four-family dwelling. Rental housing property must be covered by the required underlying liability limit of $300,000. There is no additional premium charge for vacation or rental housing properties you own.
Are Recreational Vehicles covered? Yes, the policy covers all-terrain vehicles; antique, classic, or replica vehicles; dune buggies; golf carts; snowmobiles; motor homes; motorcycles; trail bikes; mopeds; motorized bikes; mini bikes; and pedacycles. Recreational vehicles must be covered by the required underlying liability limit. Your single premium covers all of these RVs as well as all the cars you own. If and when I buy additional properties and/or cars, do I have to report this to the insurance company? No, once you are insured under the plan, there is no requirement to report additional vehicles, home, or housing properties to us. They are automatically covered. Is the use of my condominium covered? Yes, your condominium is covered provided you have the required primary insurance. Is my watercraft covered under my umbrella policy? Yes, watercrafts are covered, subject to the required primary insurance of $100,000 for watercraft less than 26 feet long, and $300,000 for watercraft equal to or greater than 26 feet.
