Graduate Programs Applicant Report 2011 OHSU data was accumulated: 1 July 2010 to 30 June 2011 and refers to applicant pool for students admitted in summer/fall of 2011. No data from MBA applicants is included as these are admitted through PSU. HIP program admits only advanced students and does not require undergraduate GPA. Data on National Averages comes from: Graduate Enrollment and Degrees 2000-2010 published in 2011 by the Council of Graduate Schools (CGS). NOTE: According to GCS, nationally first-time graduate enrollment fell 1.1% between fall 2009 and fall 2010. This is in contrast to an annual grown to 3.8% for first-time graduate enrollment since fall 2000. Summary: 1. Applications to PhD programs decreased 7.5%. Received 10-applications/matriculated student. Applicant quality based on and GPA not changed from prior years. 2. Applicants to MS degrees (Non-Physician Assistant) were identical to last year in number and quality. 3. Applicants to PA degrees increased 4%. 4. Matriculated significantly fewer PhD students (35% decrease) this year. This was a deliberate decision by several large programs and was based upon uncertainty regarding training and research grant funding. 5. Our graduate programs are highly selective. Acceptance rates are similar to national averages and to graduate programs at University of Washington. Percent of accepted students that choose to attend our programs (50%) is also similar to research universities locally (U of Washington). 6. Received applications from 45 states and 19 countries. More than half are women, 90% are US citizens, 13% Oregon residents, 28% of applicants who are US citizens belong to a racial or ethnic minority, 16% to traditionally underrepresented minorities. Total Applications were unchanged in 2011 vs. 2010 Applicants by Degree Type Total 1445

Applicants by degree type Inset shows MS programs without applicants to the Physician Assistant (PA) Program Comparison of Acceptance Rates 2011 and 2010. Applications to PhD programs were decreased by 7%. This may reflect a national trend toward decreased enrollment into graduate schools this year (CGS report). Acceptance rate is close to the national average for biological programs (from CGS report). PhD accept 19% of applicants (national acceptance rate is 21%) MS accept 52% of applicants (not including PA- national acceptance rate is 46%). The Yield rate is high. 50% of accepted students matriculate into the PhD programs. 72-72% of accepted students matriculate into the PA or MS program.
