College of Graduate Studies General Admission Categories Full Admission: This status is assigned to entering students who have earned a baccalaureate degree from a recognized college or university and who meet one of the following College of Graduate Studies minimum requirement sets: 1. Have an undergraduate cumulative grade point average between 2.3-2.59 and a minimum GRE composite (Q+V) score of 294 or minimum MAT score of 398 (optional test to the GRE for Education majors only). 2. Have an undergraduate cumulative grade point average between 2.6 and above or an undergraduate grade point average of 3.00 or higher for the last 60 semester credits (or 90 quarter credits) and a minimum GRE composite (Q+V) score of 284 or minimum MAT score of 388. 3. Business Administration majors must have an undergraduate cumulative grade point average of 2.6 or above, a minimum two years full-time work experience and a GMAT score of 420 or higher. 4. For Doctoral Programs, successful completion of a Master s degree in the field and a minimum GRE composite score of 294 or minimum MAT score of 398. Additional admission requirements may be required by the Graduate Programs. Full Admission with Stipulations: Students who have earned a baccalaureate degree from a recognized college or university, but do not satisfy Full Admission Requirements, may be fully admitted with stipulations on a case by case basis. To be accepted in this status, a student s credentials will have to be reviewed and accepted by the graduate program to which the student is applying and approved by the graduate dean. Students are fully admitted, but may have additional stipulations to be met during the course of their study. Stipulations will be specified in writing by the graduate program to which the students have been admitted. These stipulations must be satisfied within the period indicated by the admitting graduate program. Failure to satisfy stipulations may result in the student being dismissed from the program. Doctoral Degree Programs Admission Requirements Graduate Program (EDBL) Bilingual Education (Ed.D) Admission Requirements When deciding for admission, the doctoral faculty will comprehensively and systematically review the applicant s academic proficiency and qualifications. Items examined in this review include, but are not limited to, the following: Score of 294 (V + Q) on the GRE (Graduate Record Examination) Master s degree from an accredited university with a minimum of 3.25 GPA.

Three letters of recommendation from former professors and/or from administrators under whom the individual has worked or studied. Record of competence and effectiveness in professional work, as evidenced by positive reviews by present and/or former supervisors. International students need to submit TOEFL scores of at least 550 (paper -based), or 79 (IBT). (EDLD) Educational Leadership (EVEN) Environmental Engineering (HISP) Hispanic Studies (Ph.D.) Students desiring acceptance into a doctoral program must meet the following minimum admission requirements: Have an acceptable undergraduate and graduate GPA. GRE Scores or MAT Scores. The test scores are used as one of five measures to select students for the Program. A record of your GRE or MAT test scores must be on file at TAMUK. You may have such scores already on file if you took the GRE or MAT for admission to a master s degree program at TAMUK. If you have taken the test for admission to a university other than TAMUK, the Educational Testing service will forward your score to us upon your request if you have taken the test within the last five years. If you have not taken the GRE or MAT test, you must do so to be considered for admission. A two-page statement of why you desire to pursue a doctoral degree in educational leadership, giving emphasis to how such a program would contribute to your accomplishment of your career goals. Letters of recommendation from three persons who are acquainted with your professional expertise and potential for leadership. A vita listing accomplishments or any other evidence of scholarship, leadership, and/or professionalism that you think should be considered. For full admission: An M.S. GPA of 3.00 and a GRE Q+V score of 301 (or 1100 on old scale). Students who don t meet these requirements may be admitted with stipulations on a case-by-case basis. Students with non-engineering B.S./M.S. degrees will have to take prerequisite courses to meet ABET requirements of 48 credits hours of engineering topics and 32 credit hours of science and math. Admission to the doctoral program will be predicated on several factors: A completed master s degree in Spanish or Hispanic Studies or in a related area, with a minimum grade point average of 3.2; Demonstrated oral and written proficiency in Spanish; The Graduate Record Examination (GRE); At least three letters of recommendation; The student s goals and career interests as stated on the application form; and The availability of faculty members who are qualified to direct the student s program of study. (HORT) Horticulture For the Cooperative Doctorate in Horticulture, candidates must apply through Texas A&M University in College Station. While the final degree will be issued by Texas A&M, field work is conducted in conjunction with Texas A&M University-Kingsville.

(ESEN) Sustainable Energy Systems Engineering Bachelor s or Master s Degree in Engineering or Science Complete curriculum vitae, Copies of transcripts from each institutions of higher education attended, A statement of purpose describing research interests, Three letters of recommendation from academic or professional contacts, GRE scores, TOEFL score for applicants, whose native language is not English. Any other supportive documents Admission decisions are based on the evaluation of multiple factors, including the need, capacity, and resources. (WSCI) Wildlife Science MS Degree or equivalent degree from an accredited University. Minimum GPA of 3.0 for coursework from the previous degree. A minimum of 150 for each the math and verbal sections on the GRE exam. 3 letters of recommendation. Faculty can request permission to allow a student who is below this standard into our graduate programs if the student demonstrates other desirable qualities. If the latter is true, a written letter from the faculty stating why a student, who is below this standard, will be allowed admission into our graduate programs. Graduate Degree Programs Admission Requirements Graduate Program Admission Requirements (ACP) Alternative Certification Program Bachelor s degree. Minimum 2.75 GPA Required hours of coursework in your content area OR passing grade on the PACT exam (ADED) Adult Education Please refer to the College of Graduate Studies general admission (AGSC) Agriculture Science Full admission: BS Degree from an accredited University or College Combined Math & Verbal GRE Score of 290 Minimum GPA of 2.5 (ANSC) Animal Science BS Degree or equivalent degree from an accredited University. Minimum GPA of 3.0 for coursework from the previous degree. A minimum of 150 for each the math and verbal sections on the GRE exam. 3 letters of recommendation.

(EDBL) Bilingual Education Please refer to the College of Graduate Studies general admission In addition, students will need two letters of recommendation from undergraduate faculty, administrators or supervisors Official transcripts from accredited college or university (BIOL) Biology Please refer to the College of Graduate Studies general admission (BUAD) Business Administration Graduate admission standards: A GMAT or GRE is not required for applicants who hold a bachelor degree from Texas A&M University-Kingsville who have obtained a minimum GPA of 3.5 for undergraduate course work. For all other applicants: A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university Satisfactory completion of MBA program content prerequisites Minimum two years of full time, professional work experience Acceptable GMAT or comparable GRE score TOEFL score of at least 550 (paper based) or 79 (Internet-based); or IELTS score of at least 7.0 (international students) (CEEN) Civil Engineering Please refer to the College of Graduate Studies general admission Students who don t meet these requirements may be admitted with stipulations on a case-by-case basis. (CHEM) Chemistry A grade point average of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale. A satisfactory score on the GRE Aptitude Test A TOEFL score of 525 (paper based, when applicable); 20 hours of approved undergraduate chemistry, including 12 advanced; 8 hours of approved physics and 6 hours of calculus. The department, in examining the applicant's prerequisites, may accept equivalent hours or require additional work. An entering graduate student is normally subjected to four placement examinations in organic, inorganic, analytical, and physical chemistry that are used for advising the student's beginning course work. Students not satisfying these requirements may be admitted conditionally. (CHEN) Chemical Engineering A minimum GPA of 2.75. Minimum GRE quantitative score of 150. Minimum GRE verbal score of 145. For international students, a minimum TOEFL score of 550 (paperbased), or 79 (Internet-based) Prerequisites: An undergraduate degree in Chemical Engineering, natural gas engineering, petroleum engineering, or a related field. For students whose undergraduate work is in a related field, some undergraduate course work may be required to remove deficiencies in their backgrounds. Such course work will be determined by the graduate coordinator for each program on an individual basis

(CRIM) Criminology Students must have a minimum 2.6 undergraduate GPA and a minimum GRE composite score of 284 or a 388 on the MAT. (CSDO) Communication Sciences and Disorders When evaluating applicants, we take into consideration the following: GRE Scores, Reference Ratings Scores, GPA (Overall GPA, last 60 hours GPA, and CSDO major GPA), and repeated courses (deductions will be made for courses repeated 2 or more times). (CSEN) Computer Science A current minimum GRE (quantitative + verbal) requirement of 288. A minimum undergraduate GPA requirement of 3.0/4.0. For English proficiency requirement, please refer to the College of Graduate Studies admission (EDCG) Counseling and Guidance A minimum GPA of 2.6. Please refer to the College of Graduate Studies for additional (CULS) Cultural Studies Please refer to the College of Graduate Studies general admission requirements (EDEC) Early Childhood Please refer to the College of Graduate Studies general admission (EDUC) Education Minimum GPA of 2.6 on last 60 hours of undergraduate work. GRE 284 or MAT 398 Any exceptions to this requirement will be made on an individual basis. (EDAD) Educational Administration A Bachelor s Degree with teaching emphasis (or equivalent) A minimum of 2.8 GPA in undergraduate work Satisfactory MAT or GRE entrance examination score. Background consistent with the Texas Code of Conduct (EEEN) Electrical Engineering A minimum score of 145 from the quantitative section of the GRE Revised exam. A minimum requirement of 284 (Verbal+ quantitative) Admission decisions are based on each students overall portfolio: o Students GRE exam score o Students performance in undergraduate courses o Students GPA (EVEN) Environmental Engineering (HSCI) Human Sciences For full admission: M.S. applicants must have a B.S. GPA of 2.80 and a GRE composite (Q+V) score of 294 (or 1000 on old scale). Students who don t meet these requirements may be admitted with stipulations on a case-by-case basis. Students with non-engineering B.S./M.S. degrees will have to take prerequisite courses to meet ABET requirements of 48 credits hours of engineering topics and 32 credit hours of science and math. For full admission: BS Degree from an accredited University or College Minimum GPA requirement of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale

Minimum GRE score of 290 (Q + V). (IEEN) Industrial Engineering A four-year degree in Engineering or closely related field with working experience, or students satisfying concurrent enrollment criteria of Texas A&M-Kingsville graduate classes. A minimum GRE score of 289 (overall-old scale) for students who have a GPA of 2.6 or above, and a GRE score of 294 (overall-old scale) for students with a GPA between 2.3 and 2.59. (IMEN) Industrial Management Please refer to the College of Graduate Studies general admission In addition: o All students admitted to this program are expected to have a baccalaureate degree in a technical-related discipline. o If students hold degrees from unrelated disciplines, then they would be required to take at least four technical courses. o Additional prerequisites are listed in the university catalog for each of the graduate courses required for this degree. (EDED) Instructional Technology Please refer to the College of Graduate Studies general admission (EDKN) Kinesiology Applicants must meet requirements for admission to the TAMUK College of Graduate Studies as defined by the College of Graduate Studies Catalog, including GPA and GRE/MAT requirements specific to the College of Education and Human Performance. o A student must be admitted to the TAMUK College of Graduate Studies at TAMUK prior to consideration for admission to the M.S. in Kinesiology Program. Applications to the TAMUK College of Graduate Studies should be submitted using the Texas Common Application at www.applytexas.org for U.S. citizens. International students should contact the Office of International Admissions for information at international.inquiries@tamuk.edu. o Admission to the TAMUK College of Graduate Studies does not guarantee admission to the M.S. in Kinesiology Program. The final decision concerning the admission of a student to the Program rests with the Program Coordinator in consultation with the Department of Health & Kinesiology Graduate Faculty. Applicants must demonstrate the ability to communicate in writing at the level required to enable successful progression through the M.S. in Kinesiology Program. o o For unconditional admission to the Program, students who are required by the College of Graduate Studies to take the TOEFL examination for admission are required to earn a score of at least 4.5 (PBT and CBT) / 18 (IBT) on the writing portion of the TOEFL and a score of at least 3.5 on the analytical writing portion of the GRE. For unconditional admission to the Program, students who are not required by the College of Graduate Studies to take the TOEFL examination for admission are required to earn a score of at least 3.5 on the analytical writing portion of the

GRE. If a student opts to complete the MAT examination, a writing sample will be required for evaluation by the Department s Graduate Faculty. Please contact the Graduate Coordinator for more information on the procedures for submitting a writing sample. Applicants must have undergraduate education in health, kinesiology, or a related area. o o An applicant who holds a Bachelor s degree in kinesiology or related area from a regionally accredited college or university is eligible for admission into the Program if his/her performance in critical undergraduate coursework is deemed acceptable. An applicant who lacks certain critical coursework or whose performance in certain critical coursework is deemed unacceptable might be required to complete prerequisite undergraduate coursework prior to or early in his/her graduate coursework. Critical undergraduate coursework may include, but is not limited to, the following areas: Anatomy/Physiology Motor Control, Motor Learning, Motor Behavior, or Motor Development Sport, Exercise, or Performance Psychology Biomechanics or Kinesiology Exercise Physiology Tests, Measurements, and Evaluation Kinesiology for Special Populations (e.g., Adapted Physical Education) Exercise Testing and Prescription Acceptable performance is defined as a grade of "C" or above in any particular course, and a "B" average across all critical undergraduate coursework. An applicant who holds a Bachelor s degree from a regionally accredited college or university in an area unrelated to kinesiology may be considered for admission to the Program if he/she has completed at least 18 credit hours of kinesiology-related undergraduate coursework. Of these 18 credit hours, at least 12 credit hours must be advanced. Additionally, the 18 credit hours must reflect acceptable performance in an adequate number of courses deemed to be critical coursework (see above). An applicant who lacks certain critical coursework or whose performance in certain critical coursework is deemed unacceptable might be required to complete prerequisite undergraduate coursework prior to or early in his/her graduate coursework. Applicants must have a sincere interest in sports administration, kinesiology pedagogy, health/fitness, and/or the exercise sciences. Applicants must have demonstrated a high-level of professional and ethical conduct during their academic career to date. Applicants, especially those whose qualifications are marginal, are encouraged to request letters of recommendation from their undergraduate professors. Letters of recommendation should be forwarded directly to the Program Coordinator.

(MEEN) Mechanical Engineering Undergraduate degree in mechanical engineering or closely related majors; Undergraduate GPA of no lower than 2.6; GRE score (Q+V) of no lower than 950 (old scale) TOEFL score of no lower than 550 (paper based) or 79 (IBT) Convincing purpose of statement; Strong letters of recommendation. (MUSI) Music Education In addition to the College of Graduate Studies general admission requirements: The prospective student must hold a Bachelor s Degree in Music. The prospective student must take departmental entrance exams in both music theory and music history. (NGEN) Natural Gas Engineering A minimum GPA of 2.75. Minimum GRE quantitative score of 150. Minimum GRE verbal score of 145. For international students, a minimum TOEFL score of 550 (paperbased), or 79 (Internet-based) Prerequisites: An undergraduate degree in Chemical Engineering, natural gas engineering, petroleum engineering, or a related field. For students whose undergraduate work is in a related field, some undergraduate course work may be required to remove deficiencies in their backgrounds. Such course work will be determined by the graduate coordinator for each program on an individual basis (PLSS) Plant and Soil Science Full admission: BS Degree from an accredited University or College Combined Math & Verbal GRE Score of 290 Minimum GPA of 2.5 (PSYC) Psychology Please refer to the College of Graduate Studies general admission In addition, the student must have at least 18 semester hours of undergraduate psychology as a prerequisite, including courses in statistics, experimental psychology and history and systems of psychology. Additional courses may be needed to allow the student to enroll in specific graduate courses. Applicants to the graduate program in psychology must be approved by the Psychology Graduate Admissions Review Committee before formal acceptance into the program. (RAMT) Ranch Management Full admission: BS Degree from an accredited University or College Combined Math & Verbal GRE Score of 290 Minimum GPA of 2.5 (RWSC) Range & Wildlife Management BS Degree or equivalent degree from an accredited University.
