DATA PROTECTION AND DEDUPLICATION SALES PACK Reference Guide Symantec is the proven market leader in data protection and recovery with just under 40% of the market. Symantec NetBackup (NBU) 7.5 allows customers to standardise backup and recovery operations across physical and virtual environments, lowering risk and reducing cost. NetBackup provides a single administrative console regardless of your environment which simplifies the use of advanced technologies like deduplication, replication, and snapshots. Customer Challenges Data Growth IDC predicts almost 50% data growth in 2013 from 2012. The total amount of data created and replicated will reach 4 Zetabytes. (IDC Predictions 2013: Competing on the 3rd Platform, page 16). The majority of this is unstructured data. Simply adding more storage is not a long term solution. Complexity Most customers will have a huge array of different hardware/software and management tools. Finding an all encompassing solution for these types of environments can be difficult. Virtualisation VM sprawl can lead to unchecked data growth and management issues. Backing up and recovering virtual environments can be much more challenging than in the physical world. Finding a solution to adequately protect both physical and virtual environments is difficult. Cost/Risk Providing the right level of protection for different tiers of data can be a challenge, most backup solutions offer a one size fits all type of protection. Balancing cost and efficiency against IT risk is an ongoing challenge. (See-Saw) Target Market NetBackup is ideal for any heterogeneous environments with a large number of physical and/or virtual servers, or a lot of data. Any customers experiencing cost reduction pressures, whilst having the need to reduce risk will benefit from implementing NetBackup, and its related technologies. Key Messages Heterogeneous Support for all major Windows/Unix and Linux operating systems and virtualised environments. Hardware agnostic, therefore will fit in to almost any environment. Cost Choose the most appropriate media depending on the value of the data (i.e. tape, disk, VTL, Appliance or/and dedupe). Scalability Regardless of the size of your customers estate the solution will grow as required, as it has modular architecture. This ensures complete data protection. Virtualisation Unrivalled virtual machine protection. 3 times winner of the VMworld Gold Award due to most efficient backup, granularity of restores and integration with VMmare and Hyper-V. Dedupe/Appliances Dedupe means faster backups and less data stored, so less cost and management overhead. To add dedupe to any environment easily, add a Symantec Dedupe appliance. Replication and Disaster Recovery In the event of a hardware or site failure, your data protection is not compromised. Key Questions Non NetBackup Customer Are you struggling to manage backups due to a rapidly growing, complex IT environment? How are you backing up your virtual machines in your test, development, and/or production environments? Are you meeting your backup service levels (backup window, recovery point or recovery time objectives)? How are you protecting your critical applications like Microsoft Exchange 2010, SharePoint, SQL, Oracle? Analysts are quoting data growth rates of 100% year on year, does your current backup infrastructure support this level of growth? Qualifying Questions to Quote What is the operating system of the master server? What is the operating system and how many CPU s are in the server? How many servers are backing up via the master server and how many of these are virtual host servers? If so, please confirm the operating system and CPU count. Are any servers backing themselves up instead of via the master server? If so, is this over a SAN or LAN and again what is the operating system and how many CPU s are in the server? Are any of the servers running any agents, e.g. Oracle, SQL, Microsoft Exchange etc? How many of these servers are there, what is the operating system and how many CPU s are in the server? How many tape drives are you backing up to? Are you backing up to any NAS boxes? If so, what is the make and model of these boxes? Do you require deduplication? If so, how much data do you want to dedupe? How many desktop/laptops do you want to backup?

DATA PROTECTION AND DEDUPLICATION Differentiators Virtualisation Symantec can de-dupe both physical and virtual. If you are unable to leverage de-dupe across both environments, with your current solution provider, then you are not getting true deduplication. Complete visibility and automatic protection of any changes to your virtual environment, to help combat virtual sprawl. The ability to do individual file restore in the event of data loss including applications such as Exchange and SharePoint. Only backup the data you need to with block level incremental. Full integration with VMware backup interface. Significantly reduce the amount of data to backup with dedupe backup to any device; disk, tape or dedupe appliance. Dedupe Symantec will enable your customer to dedupe where most appropriate to them. At source (e.g. server where data is created) To reduce network traffic and significantly improve backup performance (up to 80%). On the backup server Where backup at source is not appropriate due to high utilisation. NetBackup or third party appliance - Easiest way to introduce dedupe to your customers environment. In remote offices Backup remote offices with no local skills. Global dedupe Dedupe everything in your backup environment against everything. Dramatically decrease storage footprint, and reduce overall cost. Virtual Synthetic backups Create full backups in minimal time with virtually no storage overhead. Symantec NetBackup 5200 Appliance is a scalable dedupe storage pool featuring FOC replication, which can also act as a media server. This means that the end user will not need to buy an additional server and operating system, therefore quickly recovering ROI on this solution. Backup Exec 3600 Appliance features de-dupe storage pool, FOC replication, the ability to act as media server if required and it also ships with all you can eat Backup Exec software. Disaster Recovery Restore data to any server hardware e.g. HP to Dell, IBM to Fujitsu etc. Free of charge replication with the dedupe option e.g. replicate backup data anywhere to anywhere with no additional cost. Automatic failover of backup media servers. Reporting and Management Centralised reporting for your entire backup environment Virtual and physical. Realtime reporting on the health of your environment, to reduce risk. Instantly identify any virtual machines that are not protected. Report on many different backup environments from a single console e.g. perfect for service providers/hosting companies. Cross Sell Opportunities (Existing NetBackup customer) Which version of NetBackup are you running Anything pre-version 7.x should be upgraded See Why Upgrade. Enterprise Vault Massively reduce the amount of data to backup, faster backups and consume less storage. Dramatically improve e-discovery. Keep storage costs low and predictable. NetBackup Accelerator Accelerate full backups by up to 100x or more! This helps you meet demanding SLA s and reduce CapEx and OpEx costs. Dedupe Appliances Easiest way to introduce dedupe to an existing NBU customer estate up and running in 15 minutes saving time and money. Symantec Ops Centre Analytics For anyone providing backup as a service, trending and charge back reporting, customisable reports. Replication Director In this joint solution, NetBackup creates catalogs and manages NetApp Snapshot copies and replication. NetBackup Vault Helps monitor and manage tape rotation policy. Cloud Based Backup This enables organisations to move data quickly and efficiently offsite for backup, archive and disaster recovery purposes. Therefore reducing costs as customers do not need to ship tapes off site. Why Upgrade to NetBackup version 7.5x Integrated Deduplication Symantec Ops Centre Simplified reporting and management Virtualisation integration best in class in version 7.x and above (see differentiators) Latest Microsoft support e.g. Exchange 2010 Easy and cost effective DR through replication and continuous data protection Multiple site failover of backup infrastructures without clustering software (V7.1 and above) October 3rd 2012, Version 6.x end of life support. DATA PROTECTION AND DEDUPLICATION SALES PACK Objection Handling 1. Already have an incumbent backup and recovery provider. a) Would they be interested in a Storage/Backup review. b) Can existing solution scale to accommodate data growth and emerging trends eg. virtualisation, deduplication and continuous data protection. c) Offer the end user a competitive upgrade, this should provide ROI. Coupled with the fact that Symantec is the market leading solution. 2. NetBackup can be perceived as being an expensive solution. a) Symantec has a proven ROI with savings in storage and operational efficiency. b) Arrow ECS is a strategic partner of Symantec and can negotiate commercials on your behalf. 3. I currently use primary storage that can do deduplication. a) Despite what hardware vendors publish, the purpose of primary storage and backup are significantly different. b) A common misconception is when backing up deduplicated primary storage it will be deduplicated at the backup - this is not the case. c) Even if you deduplicate at primary, you still need to deduplicate your backup data for true cost savings. 4. I currently use NetApp/EMC/HDS etc. which looks after my backups. a) Any of these hardware vendors have an agenda to sell more hardware. Backing up data using their methodologies is very expensive because it relies on you buying more expensive storage. b) Most of these vendors offer backup via snapshots snapshots are not backups until you have moved them to a another physical location. c) With this method of backup, none of the vendors have a central catalogue, so they are unable to instantly find any individual file for recovery regardless of when and where it was backed up. Some of these vendors will rely on restoring a complete snapshot in order to restore a single file. d) Symantec provides complete flexibility in your choice of hardware technology for backup and recovery. 5. Customer uses Veeam or Visioncore to backup Virtual Estate. a) Symantec s technology for protecting virtual machines is proven as the market leader with best of VMworld awards for Data Protection. b) NetBackup allows you to protect your physical and virtual estate from a single console. The products listed above only protect virtual infrastructures meaning that you will end up running two separate backup estates. c) These technologies rely on disk as the backup destination and have no support for tape and very weak support for deduplication which means higher storage costs in the long term. Competitors Commvault, EMC Networker/Avamar, IBM TSM, HP Data Protector, Veeam, Bakbone Competitive Advantages Unique award-winning virtual machine protection that saves customers time and money. The ability to centralise the protection across a heterogeneous environment, including physical and virtual machines. Built-in source and target-based deduplication that is comprehensive, proven and managed centrally from one console. Technologies that helps customers save time, bandwidth and storage: The cost of deduplication with NetBackup 7.5 and its built-in deduplication along with the 5000 series appliances can have a 2x-5x lower cost footprint than competing hardware target deduplication solutions; Single backup pass provides both granular singe file recovery and full system recovery for critical Windows applications and hypervisors. Virtual Image Protection (VIP) adds key features for managing virtual environments a), automatically protects any new or moved images, and b) automatically sequences and load balances backup of virtualised host systems to prevent the over load of a single host during backup. Deep integration with deduplication appliances via Symantec NetBackup OpenStorage API. Advanced protection technologies for critical applications including integrated snapshots, continuous data protection and replication.

BUSINESS CRITICAL VIRTUALISATION SALES PACK Reference Guide Many organisations are virtualising their environments which means consolidating to get the most out of their estate. While virtualisation carries many benefits it also brings with it risks. Symantec helps organisations address these risks through High Availability, Backup and Security. Symantec has developed a range of products that can give you confidence to virtualise your business critical environments. This guide covers Symantec ApplicationHA Symantec Cluster Server Symantec NetBackup Symantec NetBackup Appliance Symantec Backup Exec Symantec Backup Exec Appliance Symantec Endpoint Protection Suite Symantec Protection Suite Customer Challenges Backup Data Growth IDC predicts almost 50% data growth in 2013 from 2012. Simply adding more storage is not a long term solution. VM Sprawl Because it is so easy to create virtual machines, this can lead to unchecked data growth and management issues. Traditional Backup not Suitable Backing up and recovering virtual environments can be much more challenging than in the physical world. Most people don t realise that you can manage your physical and virtual backups with a single solution. Application Availability Risk Virtualisation vendors technologies alone are unable to monitor and manage at the application level, therefore you have no knowledge whether the application is providing a service or not. Security VM Sprawl VM sprawl can lead to vulnerabilities in a customer s environment. Symantec helps secure, monitor and manage virtual servers in a uniquely efficient manner. Complexity Most customers will have a huge array of different hardware/software and management tools. Finding an all encompassing solution for these types of environments can be difficult. Target Market Anyone who is deploying virtualisation. Virtualisation has become a mega trend due to the cost savings associated. The majority of end users will be embarking on this process. This is a conversation you should be having with your customers now. Key Messages Co-Developed Solution Symantec and VMware have come together to co-develop technology to protect, secure and manage business critical applications. Complete Covers any hardware, both virtual and physical. Virtualisation Unrivalled virtual machine protection. 3 times winner of the VMworld Gold Award due to most efficient backup, granularity of restores, integration with VMware and Hyper-V. Heterogeneous Support for all major Windows/Unix and Linux operating systems and virtualised environments and is hardware agnostic therefore will fit in to almost any environment. Cost Choose the most appropriate media depending on the value of the data (i.e. tape, disk, VTL, Appliance or/and dedupe). Confidence in Security Range of Symantec products that can give you confidence to use virtual servers in production environments. One Source of Supply and Support Rather than utilising solutions from multiple vendors, Symantec provides a single source addressing these issues. Key Questions Where are you with regards to your virtualisation strategy? Have you implemented critical applications into your virtual environment? If not, what are the reasons why? Are you struggling to manage backups due to a rapidly growing, complex virtual and physical environment? Have you found that backing up your virtual environments results in you using much more storage? How are you backing up your virtual machines in your test, development, and/or production environments? How are you securing your virtual servers? If you have critical applications running in a virtualised environment how are you monitoring and managing these? E.g. Microsoft Exchange 2010, SharePoint, SQL, Oracle? Qualifying Questions to Quote How many virtual machines are running critical applications?

BUSINESS CRITICAL VIRTUALISATION Differentiators Back up Complete visibility and automatic protection of any changes to your virtual environment. The ability to do individual file restore in the event of data loss including applications such as Exchange and SharePoint. With Symantec you only backup the data you need to with block level incremental backups. Significantly reduce the amount of data to backup with dedupe. Protect virtual and physical environments with a single console, and backup to any device; disk, tape or appliance. The Symantec Backup Exec and NetBackup Appliance provides a deduplicated storage pool and can also act as a media server. Replication between Symantec appliances is free of charge. BUSINESS CRITICAL VIRTUALISATION SALES PACK Objection Handling 1. Coupled with the fact that Symantec are the market leading solution. d) Do you have a separate backup provider for physical and virtual environments you could consolidate that to one provider with Symantec. 2. Customer uses Veeam or Visioncore to backup Virtual Estate. a) Symantec s technology for protecting virtual machines is proven as the market leader with best of VMworld awards for Data Protection. b) Symantec can dedupe both physical and virtual. c) NetBackup allows you to protect your physical and virtual estate from a single console. The products listed above only protect virtual infrastructures meaning that you will end up running two separate backup estates. d) These technologies rely on disk as the backup destination and have no support for tape and very weak support for deduplication which means higher storage costs in the long term. 3. I use the virtualisation tool sets e.g. VMware HA, VMotion, DRS or Site Recovery Manager, therefore I am fully protected. a) None of these tools manage the health of the application so are unable to detect failures. Symantec ApplicationHA does this and automatically remediates in the case of failure. 4. I already use security tools from another vendor. a) You could benefit from consolidating point products to a single source of supply, whose products integrate to give you the best protection for your physical and virtual environments. b) Compared to all of the Anti Virus competition Symantec has the highest accuracy in detecting malware, and the lowest rate of false positives e.g. blocking a good file. c) If your current AV provider is not optimised for virtual environments, it is likely they will be scanning inside every individual virtual machine which will significantly degrade performance. d) In January 2013 Gartner recognised Symantec as the market leader in Endpoint Protection. Symantec has been positioned in the Leader quadrant since 2002. Competitors no one vendor can address all these business critical issues around virtualisation. Backup Veeam, CommVault, Visioncore, EMC Security Trend Micro, McAfee, Sophos, AVG, Kapersky Symantec compared to other security vendors give additional functionality and most importantly include backup giving users the ability to roll back to a previous consistent state. Competitive Advantages Symantec ApplicationHA provides comprehensive application availability in VMware environments. Together with VMware HA, it protects against application, virtual machine, and physical host failures. Powered by Veritas Cluster Sever, the industry s leading, cross-platform high-availability/disaster recovery (HA/DR) solution. Gain visibility and control of applications inside virtual servers. Minimise risks associated with application downtime by monitoring not only virtual machines, but also the applications running inside them. Data center administrators can monitor and control applications via a simple interface on vsphere Client and Veritas Operations Manager. Symantec ApplicationHA monitors application services, and, in the event of a failure, performs automated recovery steps in coordination with VMware HA. Simplify administration with full integration in VMware vcenter. Reduce training costs and the need for additional tools through seamless integration with VMware. It works with VMotion, DRS, DPM, and VMware Snapshots. Customers can manage businesscritical applications from a single pane of glass with specific Symantec ApplicationHA customised privilege roles.

ARCHIVING & E-DISCOVERY SALES PACK Reference Guide As stated by Gartner Magic Quadrant, Enterprise Vault is the industry s leading archiving solution. Enterprise Vault enables users to store, manage and discover unstructured information across the organisation. It allows a customer to remove duplicate copies of data to reduce costs, delete information confidently and discover information efficiently. Enterprise Vault moves old or infrequently accessed data to cheaper lower level storage tiers, which keeps the cost and management of primary storage down, whilst maintaining seamless user access. Compliance Companies may need to search, discover and present company information for legal purposes both external, and internal. This can be a very difficult process as information can be stored anywhere in the business e.g. Exchange, SharePoint, server, laptop, backup data. Backup As data volumes grow year on year, backup of unstructured data becomes problematic. Mail Archive Files,.PST or.nsf Files These present many issues around security, backup/storage consumption and potential corruption of data. Any IT manager would rather have control of these types of file within their messaging environment. Retention Many customers will find it difficult to define a policy by which they can delete data confidently, meaning that many will simply keep everything forever, adding to the storage growth issue. Migration Upgrading to the latest version of Exchange or moving from Domino to Exchange can be a very time consuming and an expensive exercise. Therefore to reduce the amount of data stored in these applications prior to migration is extremely useful. Target Market Any customer using Windows (SharePoint, Exchange, Lotus Domino, file system data). Customers with concerns around compliance or electronic content discovery. Key Messages Reduce Storage Costs By setting policies, Enterprise Vault will move old, infrequently accessed data from expensive primary storage to cheaper storage tiers. Improve Backup Performance By moving data to less expensive media, means less primary storage to backup. This is particularly important for Exchange 2010, as it has no single instancing, e.g. an email containing an attachment that is sent to 200 people would be stored 200 times Enterprise Vault will only store 1 copy. Better Management of Unstructured Information When archiving Enterprise Vault will index, classify, compress and single instance the data, making it easy to manage and find. Keep Data Readily Available to End Users Once data has been archived users can access this seamlessly there are no new tools to learn. Simplify Search and e-discovery Enterprise Vault provides comprehensive legislative compliance, auditing and discovery capabilities. This allows customers to give discover capabilities to the right people within the organisation, e.g. HR or legal. Control Local Email Archives e.g..pst Files Eradicate existing or future.psts. Improve Performance of Key Applications e.g. Exchange, SharePoint Exchange and SharePoint performance degrades if it is holding too much data. Enterprise Vault will reduce the amount of data on the server and eliminates this issue. Key Questions Email Archiving Which email system is being used? (Microsoft Exchange or Lotus Domino). Which version? How many users are provisioned? Do mailbox users keep PST/NSF files? If yes, are they stored locally or on a network server? Will mailbox users need offline access to archived emails (laptop users)? Are public folders used? Is email journaling required? Do they have compliance needs or requirements to search email archives for legal reasons? File Archiving Is file archiving required? If so, how much data is to be archived? How many users access the file server? SharePoint Archiving Is SharePoint used? If yes, would you like to archive SharePoint data? Instant Messaging Archiving Is Instant Messaging used? Would you like to archive conversations for compliance reasons? Social Media Archiving Does the company use social media? E.g Facebook, Twitter, Linkedin, You Tube Would you like to archive social media content for compliance reasons?

ARCHIVING & E-DISCOVERY Differentiators Storage Deduplicate across email, file servers and SharePoint by 40 80%. Enterprise Vault is unique in that it is a single platform that will take care of archiving File Server Data, Microsoft Exchange, SharePoint and Lotus Domino. Gartner Magic Quadrant No.1 for the last 7 years, and most widely deployed archive solution world wide. Enterprise Vault can scale from the smallest to the largest enterprise No customer is too big or too small. Integration with other key Symantec technologies such as Backup Exec and NetBackup. Compliance Since the acquisition of Clearwell who are experts in e-discovery, in December 2012 Symantec was named a leader in Gartner Magic Quadrant for Archiving. Can search up to a rate of a terabyte of data a day. Enterprise Vault can index over 400 file types which enables powerful e-discovery and searching. With the new data classification service Enterprise Vault can assign different types of retention rules to different types of highly sensitive data. Tracks user actions, therefore providing a robust audit trail and reporting. Migrations Ease of migration from older versions of messaging systems such as Exchange and Domino, to the latest versions. Resulting in reduced migration overhead, saving you time and money. Social Media Social Media archiving captures content and associated metadata and links from social media and corporate websites. Social media content can now be included in ediscovery searches along with archived e-mail, SharePoint, and file server information. Organisations are enabled to be compliant with regulations like FINRA 10-06 that have expanded its scope to social media communications. ARCHIVING & E-DISCOVERY SALES PACK Objection Handling 1. No requirement for an archiving product as I have a backup system. a) A common misconception is that a backup product is an archiving solution. This is not the case as archiving is for discovery and backup is for recovery. b) Enterprise Vault dramatically speeds up the time to search for all document types, therefore saving the company time and money. 2. Not a priority. Budget is tight. a) Using Enterprise Vault can reduce your overall primary storage footprint and costs by 60% and will also reduce the amount of data needing to be backed up, therefore significantly reducing your backup and restore windows. Enterprise Vault Single Instance Storage minimises the amount of secondary storage required to hold archived data thus lowering the long term total cost of ownership. b) Shortens the e-discovery timeline thus reducing legal costs and can help speed up a legal case. 3. I don t have much data/i don t feel the organisation is large enough. a) Even the smallest of customers can have compliance requirements or data retention polices to adhere to. Enterprise Vault has full auditing capabilities and flexible retention configuration possibilities to ensure these requirements are adhered to without extensive management requirements. b) Enterprise Vault allows you to move data seamlessly and efficiently from primary storage to secondary storage, thus reducing your overall storage footprint and costs. c) Seamless end user experience and full integration into Backup Exec and NetBackup - this will eliminate the overall learning curve for end users and reduce the training and products to manage for the IT department. 4. We are using Exchange 2013 Native Archiving. a) Exchange 2013 does not support the following: Deduping compressed or archived data. Archiving to any WORM (write once read many) tape device. Archiving from Domino, File Systems, SharePoint and Instant Messaging. Single instancing of data storage, this will increase the overall messaging storage requirements. b) Enterprise Vault will allow users to seamlessly access their archived information whether they are using existing tools such as Outlook or Mobile Handheld Devices. Access at any time or any location maintains high levels of user productivity. Competitors EMC EmailXtender (Legato) As EMC s Archving & ediscovery require separate storage pools you will just end up buying more storage and you are unable to de-dupe across active content and archive content. Complicated interface designed for techies and is not suitable for external legal investigators who may need to use the system. CommVault Doesn t have single instancing for file archiving. If you are looking for full item discovery then you are required to implement another solution (Content Indexing) which requires more infrastructure, licensing and storage. Competitive Advantages Enterprise Vault will reduce hardware, administrative, and operational costs. Reduction in backups by archiving email and files off primary storage, reducing active message stores by 50 to 75 percent while continuing to provide users access to their messages. Improvement in upgrades and migrations by first archiving larger and/or older files off of primary storage, then achieving dramatic improvements in speed and efficiency when having to migrate less data. Elimination of the need for PST files by allowing for a virtually unlimited inbox. Companies can be compliant with governance and regulatory policies that demand a company have access and control over all copies of messages, while users still have access to their files. This also allows for easier and faster search and retrieval with full text indexing of email and files for litigation and governance needs.
