Strategy Programmes 2011/2012 CEIBS-INSEAD Expanding Business to China Executive Education Expand your horizon. Make an impact.
CEIBS-INSEAD Expanding Business to China 01 China has been the world s largest manufacturer in the past 3 years and has contributed almost 30% of the growth in global consumption almost double that of the United States. Its low labour costs, fast economic growth, and huge population have allowed China to become the destination of choice for global businesses looking to offshore manufacturing, expand consumer markets, and increase research and development. The curriculum of the new joint CEIBS and INSEAD Executive Education programme, Expanding Business to China, has been designed by CEIBS and INSEAD faculty based on their most recent research and teaching innovations. It represents a unique business development opportunity for your business, whether you are considering entering China or expanding in China. It aims to provide you with knowledge of the essential ingredients that you need to start or improve your China projects: insights, financing and partnership. Insights: Whether your company uses China for sourcing or as a consumer market, you need insights into how local supply chain (e.g., manufacturing, distribution, staffing) and consumer markets operate. Given the lack of quality market research on Chinese markets, as is typical of emerging markets in general, it is essential that you gain the skills to develop insights first-hand. Financing: A substantial amount of financing from Chinese and global sources (banks, venture capital and private equity) relies on China-related value propositions. You will learn how to navigate this system and improve your chances of accessing such financing through targeted value propositions and relationship building. Partners: Local partners can contribute to success through in-depth understanding of the local markets and key connections. You will learn how to find information about partners, how to assess the quality of partners, how to build relationships, and how to evaluate the benefits and costs of different types of partners (private firm, state-owned firm, family firms, group-affiliated firms). Key benefits Define your effective entry and expansion strategies in China through a solid understanding of government policies, markets, consumers and supply chains Build win-win local partnerships by selecting the right partner firms and enhancing relationship management based on cultural insights Obtain expert advice on your companyspecific China projects Develop key relationships with top government officials, senior Chinese and global executives.
