In Illinois, It is a state law that all plumbing contractors and plumbing technicians must have a plumbing license issued by the state in order to perform any work. In order for a plumber to possess a plumbing license, he or she must go through extensive training and pass a very comprehensive exam proving the individual s knowledge of the industry. Our 90th Anniversary Bishop Plumbing Celebrates 90 Years We are proud to announce that Bishop Plumbing is celebrating its 90th Anniversary! For ninety years, Bishop Plumbing has been serving the community with the highest quality plumbing services for our customers. Bishop Plumbing was founded in 1921 by Charlie Bishop. Charlie later sold the company to David Hanns who then sold the company in 1976 to Robert Melko - the current owner. Bob Melko grew up in the plumbing industry and worked his way up in Bishop Plumbing until he came to the point that he had the opportunity to purchase the company from David Hanns. When Bob bought the company, there were only three employees. Now, Bishop Plumbing employs over 40 people! Although Bishop Plumbing has had to move office locations multiple times due to its growth, the company has always resided in Des Plaines, Illinois. As a company that has been in the industry for numerous decades, Bishop Plumbing has always made it a priority to continually innovate and provide increasingly better services Charlie Bishop, Founder and products to its customers. The plumbing industry is always changing and its important for the company to stay ahead of the curve. There have been significant technical advancements in products, tools, and business operations which Bishop continues to adopt. Winter Quote RECIPE: Pecan Pie Ingredients: 1 (9-inch) pie shell 2/3 cup sugar 1/3 cup stick margarine or butter, melted 1 cup corn syrup 1/2 teaspoon salt 3 large eggs 1 cup pecan halves Directions: 1. Heat oven to 375 degrees. Prepare the pastry shell. 2. Beat the sugar, margarine or butter, corn syrup, salt and eggs in a medium bowl with a wire whisk or hand beater until well blended. Stir in the pecans. Pour the mixture into the pastry-lined pie plate. 3. Bake for 40-50 minutes or until center is firm. It s Kickoff Time! It s begun! During these difficult economic times, we realize there are more and more families who are struggling to make ends meet. These families have to decide on paying their mortgage and keeping a roof over their family s heads, or purchasing enough groceries to fill the pantry and keep mouths fed. In this new year, remember those who are in need and help us by donating canned goods and dry foods to Warm Hands, Full Hearts. Children s Corner: Winter Activities for the Season It may be chilly outside, but that doesn t mean you have to stay indoors. Here are some great suggestions for winter fun: Ice Skating - There are 2 great spots to ice skate in Chicago. (1) Wrigley Field and (2) Millenium Park. Also, check out your local Park District to see what rinks are close to your home. Sledding - It s been a bit warm this season, but once the snow really hits, get out to the sledding hill and have some fun! Cross-Country Skiing - If you don t have your own equipment, REI and other local outfitters can help you out. Chumley aka Max was rescued by Bishop Plumbing s Plumbers for Puppies. He was one of our first rescues. Max was at the kill shelter, on death row and ready to be euthanized. His story was very sad. He was taken to a gas station and tied to a post by his owner, who was going to jail. The gas station owner found Max sitting there, faithfully waiting for his owner to return and called animal control who took him to the kill shelter. I immediately fell in love with Max. He followed me around the office for a couple of days. I actually considered bringing him home with me but then realized that he did not like dogs that were bigger than him, so I knew he wouldn t do well in my home. I then began to search for the right home for him, preferrably with someone I knew so that I could be guaranteed visitation rights! One of our plumbers, Scott Sprague, ended up fostering Max for the weekend while I continued to work on finding him a good home. u There s Plenty to do in the Winter! Meet Scott s Adopted Dogs, Chumley and Snooky On Monday morning Scott came into the office without Max. I asked him where Max was, fearing that he had runaway. Scott s reply was Oh, the thing is, I will be keeping Max and his name is now Chumley. I was so happy for Scott, Max and Max s new brother Snooky. Chumley now comes for regular visits to the office. He is extremely happy and has gained weight and he LOVES his new brother! He has come a long way from the withdrawn, shadow of a dog that Bishop Plumbing rescued from the kill shelter. Storms: Flooding & Power Outages Did you experience extreme flooding and power outages from the storms we had this summer? When rain comes down at an incredibly fast rate, the sewers cannot always keep up - depending on their capacity.
