Investigate various philosophies in the field of art education including, but not limited to, postmodernism and multiculturalism, which will inform the development of students philosophy for teaching art 4. Affirm current artistic practices and expand studio skills for application and translation into pre kindergarten to grade twelve school settings, as well as participate in community arts events 5. Consider and investigate the role of technology and new media in the professional practices of art education 6. Consider the needs of all pre kindergarten to grade twelve students, including students with special needs 7. Develop differentiated art curricula, instructional strategies, and use of age

appropriate art materials/media and technologies 8. Link curriculum theory and practice by critiquing, studying, writing, and implementing lesson plans and curriculum, for pre kindergarten to grade twelve school settings 9. Engage with museums and cultural institutions in the professional practices of art teachers through real time and web based experiences with museum educators and museum/gallery exhibitions H. The master of arts in teaching, middle and high school education program will allow students to do the following. 1. Use an academic context through which to reflect on the middle and high schools in their structures and in their school site placements 2. Comprehend the ideal of the reflective practitioner and the intellectual work of teaching 3. Understand the triangle of education and how people learn to understand its components and to consider those components carefully 4. Develop a strong academic knowledge of the content they want to teach and an understanding of the pedagogy that best meets students needs 5. Comprehend research in areas such as human development and learning, working with exceptionalities in the classroom, learning theory and cognitive development, and adolescent psychology and comprehend the impact of these research areas on classroom practice 6.
