SCOPE OF PRACTICE RULES AEMT Skills: Airways not intended for trachea IV D25/D50 Glucagon Nebulizers Narcan IV and Intranasal IO Pediatrics* Nitrous Oxide** * AEMT may be taught adult IO at the service level with medical director approval, protocols, QA and documentation competency. ** AEMT will be taught Nitrous Oxide in didactic however if service administers Nitrous Oxide in protocol the service will need to have documentation of competency by the AEMT in administration according to service protocols.

SCOPE OF PRACTICE RULES RENEWAL ALL Levels New Continuing Education Requirements effective January 1, 2015

SCOPE OF PRACTICE RULES Late RENEWAL Period Within 60 days of expiration Pay renewal fee and Pay late fee established by the Board for each month or fraction of a month not to exceed renewal fee. Currently $25.00 Show proof of completion of renewal requirements prior to expiration. Good Cause for Renewal EXPANDED TO ONE YEAR OF EXPIRATION DATE

SCOPE OF PRACTICE RULES Reinstatements: greater than 60 days less than one year NREMT Assessment written exam for level of License/certification and Renewal and Reinstatement fee Reinstatements: Greater than one year less than 2 years Refresher for level of licensure/certification Board approved Practical examination NREMT Assessment written examination

SCOPE OF PRACTICE RULES Reinstatements: Greater than 2 years EMT or AEMT must complete approved board training course

PARAMEDIC SCOPE OF PRACTICE RULES Reinstatements: Greater than 2 years Show evidence of previous TN license as Paramedic Successfully complete Board Approved Written and Practical Hold Current: ACLS, PHTLS or ITLS, and PALS

SCOPE OF PRACTICE RULES Reinstatements: Greater than 2 years Complete a Paramedic Refresher: or Complete 48 hours of Advance Life Support training. Criminal Background Check 2 Good Moral Character Letters Copy of CPR Card Medical Examination.

SCOPE OF PRACTICE RULES Retirement Reactivation within two (2) or less years of retirement of certificate or license must complete the requirements for reinstatement for the appropriate level of licensure

SCOPE OF PRACTICE RULES Retirement Reactivation after two (2) or more years of retirement of certificate or license must complete the requirements for reinstatement of an expired license greater than two (2) years.

AEMT PROGRAM APPROVAL Paramedic Programs Submit a letter of intend to offer AEMT with start date. Must have board approval Non Paramedic Programs Submit application Have a site visit Presented to board for initial approval Revisit after first class completion and present to board for full approval

EDUCATION PROGRAMS The Board may grant full approval for a period of five (5) years to a program that has met the requirements that are set forth by the Board and the policies of the Office of EMS

EDUCATION PROGRAMS File a written request to EMS Regional Consultant for approval with at least thirty (30) days prior to the start date of classes. Practical Exam date Sufficient supervised practice (1-12 student ratio)

EDUCATION PROGRAMS All programs are required to maintain a first attempt licensure pass rate annually as approved by the Board. Education committee will be reviewing proposal Board will set pass rate Effective date January 1, 2015

EDUCATION PROGRAMS Should a program fail to maintain the required pass rate it shall: Receive a Letter of Concern from the Office of EMS. Second Year failure to meet required pass rate Letter of Warning and be required to submit a Plan of Correction to the Office outlining its plan for improvement.

EDUCATION PROGRAMS Fail to achieve the required pass rate for a third year, a representative from the approved program shall be required to appear before the Board. The Board may, in accordance with the Uniform Administrative Procedures Act (UAPA), condition, suspend, or revoke the educational institution s approval.

EDUCATION PROGRAMS All Paramedic programs must maintain accreditation with CAAHEP.

EDUCATION PROGRAMS Law requires following be included in initial training Domestic violence Unexplained death of children

NEED PRACTICAL EVALUATORS Notify Regional Consultant if interested

CRIMINAL BACKGROUND Central Office can not advise a potential student as to eligibility for license due to criminal history until we receive application and background check.

LAWS EFFECTING LICENSE OR CERTIFICATION EMS Office is required by state law when presented with order by governing state agency to suspend license or certification for failure to pay: Child Support Student Loans

DATES TO REMEMBER May 31 2014 last day to complete EMT IV June 1, 2014 all programs must follow National Education Standards for Scope of Practice May 31, 2016 last day to license as EMT IV December 31, 2016 transition deadline January 1, 2015 new renewal requirements effective.
