Greetings to our Clients, Colleagues and Friends: The attorneys and staff of Morton & Gettys are pleased to present Windows, the first in a series of periodic views about our firm and its people. We hope you enjoy it and, of course, welcome your comments and suggestions. Warmly, John Gettys Managing Partner New Office in York, SC Our new York location opened in February, 2010, at 616 East Liberty Street between the York County Court House and the Moss Justice Center. Attorneys, Michael Hatch and Elizabeth Owen, and support staff, Kelly Hamilton and Lena Bailey, work out of this office. Notable Acts and Milestones Morton & Gettys will celebrate its 10 year anniversary in April 2011 Walter Dusky received the 2010 South Carolina Bar s LRE Lawyer of the Year Award, was elected vice president of the York County Bar Association for 2011, and also coached the Fort Mill High School Mock Trial Team to its 12th consecutive state competition this year Elizabeth Owen was appointed as part-time municipal judge for the City of York Josh Vann is serving on the 2011 York County Sales Tax Commission for the Pennies For Progress Program... John Gettys was selected to serve as the chairman of the York District, Boy Scouts of America... Walter Dusky and Michael Smith were named to the Honor Roll of the SC Bar Pro Bono Program.

Newest Additions to Our Team Richards McCrae joined us in the summer of 2009 as the personal injury practice group leader and a civil litigator. He is based out of the firm s office in Rock Hill and is licensed to practice in South Carolina state and federal courts. A Fort Mill native, Richards graduated with honors from the University of South Carolina with a bachelor s degree in history and earned his law degree from USC School of Law. Prior to joining Morton & Gettys, McCrae was an attorney with Chappell, Smith & Arden in Columbia, SC, where he primarily practiced personal injury law. He is a member of the Coastal Conservation League and USC Alumni Association, and is a volunteer coach for the Springfield Middle School Mock Trial Team. His personal interests include USC athletics and American and European history. Last Spring, Walter Dusky joined the Morton & Gettys team. He concentrates his practice in residential real estate and in estate planning and probate matters but also handles business and general business litigation matters. Walter, who has lived in the area for 15 years, is the resident attorney in the firm s Indian Land office. Walter earned a bachelor s degree in political science from Winthrop University and his law degree from Ohio Northern University. He volunteers for his high school alma mater, Fort Mill High School, and has coached the school s Mock Trial Team since 2006. Since 2007, Walter has been an active member of the South Carolina Bar Law Related Education Committee and last year he was the recipient of the committee s Lawyer of the Year Award. His bar admissions include the states of South and North Carolina and the U.S. District Court for Western North Carolina. Michael Hatch came on board in November and has a wide variety of legal experience in commercial and residential foreclosures and loan workouts, creditor s rights, real estate finance, commercial litigation, and real estate controversies. Prior to this position in York, Michael practiced law in Aiken with Butler & Hotch, PA and Columbia, SC with Ellis, Lawhorne & Simms, PA, where he represented clients in both state and federal courts. A native of Augusta, Georgia, Michael graduated summa cum laude from the University of Georgia with a bachelor s degree in Japanese language and went on to earn his law degree from the University of South Carolina. His bar admissions include the states of South Carolina, Georgia and Florida and the U.S. District Court in South Carolina.
