Wires Only Internet Leased Lines As soon as you have a Vaioni leased line you know that you have an extraordinary service. With an industry leading 99.96% SLA, a 4hr fix (managed option only) and the best routes and lowest latency to any global destination, what more can you ask for. With full UK coverage and access to the largest number of UK Telco networks, Vaioni is the only Ethernet partner you need. Our leased lines range from 1mb to 10Gbps+ so you can be sure we can cater for your requirements however diverse. Our Wires Only offering puts you, the partner, in the driving seat. You will still benefit from the largest Ethernet aggregation platform in the UK but because you will be able to manage, diagnose faults and maintain the circuit yourself you have a much greater level of control. This, we find, is key for technically savvy companies who want to provide their customers with a support service that is entirely their own. Feature Spotlight Cost Effective Vaioni have access to the largest number of Tier 1 networks, giving us access to hundreds of on-net PoPs across the UK. We can almost guarantee an unbeatable price every time. Simple Not every client requires MEF compliant services such as QoS and other such features. They simply want a basic Internet facing circuit. With Wires Only that s exactly what you get. Controllable By putting your own CE (Customer Equipment) in place, you can control many features of the service with ease. Global Availability With thousands of worldwide PoPs, serving 180+ countries, Vaioni can provide connectivity anywhere in the world.
Is Wires Only Ethernet for You? As a Vaioni partner you have to option to order either Managed or Wires Only Ethernet Leased Lines. If you are not sure which option to choose then the following information will help you make the right decision for your business and your customer s needs. Managed Ethernet Purchasing a Vaioni Managed solution means that Vaioni will manage and monitor the solution end-toend. This will ensure the continuity between your site and our core is maintained all the way to the IP edge via the UKEAF (UK Aggregated Ethernet Fabric). This allows us to provide a wealth of MEF Compliant solutions and technologies as standard, such as: QoS QinQ Jumbo Frames E-LAN, E-TREE Flexible CIR rates Flexible circuit presentation (Fibre and Copper port options) Advanced Layer2 monitoring (CFM, RFC 5618 TWAMP, RFC 2544 Traffic Generation, Y.1731 Performance Monitoring and Dying Gasp) and more traditional monitoring methods (SNMP, ICMP). We are able to provide these services due to the functionality of the Carrier Ethernet Demarcation Device (hereafter CEDD). As outlined by the below diagram. CEDD Last Mile Tail Provider UKAEF Vaioni IP Edge Internet Wires Only Ethernet The Wires Only model does not include the Vaioni CEDD. This means that you, our partner, have full control over the connection and the autonomy to add any equipment you require. Due to Vaioni s loss of control of the service from the customer premises back to our Aggregated Ethernet Fabric the responsibility for the quality of the service rests with you at all times. This would include any diagnostics required by Vaioni support staff. Last Mile Tail Provider UKAEF Internet Vaioni IP Edge
Further supporting documentation, including Installation Guidelines & Support Guidelines whitepapers can be supplied by your account manager. What are your responsibilities? As stated previously, our visibility of your service is restricted to the UKAEF in a wires only service. As such we require that many functions are completed by you, the partner. Your responsibilities are listed below: Monitoring on traffic Please ensure that you provide adequate monitoring for your own needs, as information captured by these technologies is invaluable in diagnosing faults. For reference we provide the following as part of the Vaioni Managed Ethernet service, we will proactively monitor your service on a 24/7 basis. This is done with a mix of MEF Compliant OAM (IEEE802.1ag CFM, RFC 5618 TWAMP, RFC 2544 Traffic Generation, Y.1731 Performance Monitoring and Dying Gasp) and more traditional monitoring methods (SNMP, ICMP). Maintenance of the CE This would commonly include the good upkeep of the hardware and ensuring that any traffic generated by said device adheres to internet standards. Traffic policing As we are unable to ensure end to end QoS without a CEDD Vaioni can only police traffic at the IP ingress/egress point. As such it is advisable that all policing for upstream traffic is completed prior to routing the traffic to the last mile tail. Monitoring Service Uptimes With a Wires Only Leased Line our systems will be unable to detect the current state of the service and notify you of any issues. You must therefore notify us of any issues prior to Vaioni investigation of a fault. This would include performing local checks of equipment and cables prior to contacting support. Along with the above information you can also refer to the Support Guidelines Datasheet that can be supplied by your account manager.
How will the service be presented? As standard Vaioni normalises presentation on your behalf using the CEDD, however on Wires Only your presentation will vary dependent on the last mile tail provider. It is a good idea to ensure that during the survey and circuit installation phases, you are present and ask all the questions you feel are necessary. Some good questions to ask may include: What port do I physically plug my device into? What port settings should I use? (e.g. Speed, Duplex and Auto-Neg settings) Should I use a Cross-over cable or Straight through? If you cannot be present at the install you can of course ask these questions through the Vaioni Service Delivery team prior to install. If you can t find the last mile tail provider NTE (Network Termination Equipment), check your order form for the location you requested. Alternatively ask whoever escorted the tail provider engineer within the site. If all else fails, contact the Vaioni Service Delivery Team who will ask the tail provider on your behalf for the termination location. In the vast majority of cases your presentation point will be an RJ-45 port upon the NTE. How will the service be supported? As your Ethernet provider we will of course notify you through the normal channels of any issues affecting your service to which we are aware. This may include: NNI (Interconnect) Issues An NNI is the point at which we receive your service from the last mile tail provider. It is often possible for us to detect issues here automatically, and can be considered the point at which we take over responsibility for the service from said provider. Any issues with the NNI will of course be handled as normal. IP issues Any issues at the IP layer of your solution will be managed as normal by Vaioni. As a DIA service the IP layer is an intrinsic element to the service and will act as your gateway to the internet. UKAEF Issues Any issues upon the Aggregated Ethernet Fabric will be handled as normal, with everything you would expect, from MEF compliant 50ms failover to multi-path resilience. Beyond the elements listed above, the responsibility to inform and diagnose issues lies with you, as such we can only start the SLA clock from the point that it is established between our two support parties that an issue exists upon the tail. At which point Vaioni Support will liaise with the Tail Provider on your behalf. We would ask that any requests for diagnostics are dealt with promptly to reduce potential downtime.
Product Fact Sheet Supported Ethernet Frames IPv4 (0x0800), ARP (0x0806) For monitoring purposes we will ensure that the Vaioni IP default gateway you are provided with responds to ICMP echo requests. IP Addressing For the purposes of addressing Vaioni will provide you with a RIPE PA allocation from the uk.vaioni LIR registrar. Bandwidth and Product Types Burstable bandwidth is not available on Wire Only services at this time. CIR/Bearer options from 1Mbps to 10Gpbs. A comprehensive list of last mile tail providers is available upon request. SLA & Performance SLA clock starts from confirmation of a tail issue.
