Make no extra marks on the answer sheet; they may be picked up as incorrect answers. Answers are either TRUE or False = A or B (on the answer sheet) Example: [==] [ B ] [ C ] [ D ] Follow the instructions and properly mark your answer sheet! 1. The playing of music / sound effects is permitted during pregame, intermission and post-game 2. There is no player control during an interrupted dribble, but there is team control. 3. A player taunting or baiting an opponent can be assessed a technical foul. 4. Officials should report at least one hour before the game time. 5. The role of the officials is to interpret the rules. 6. The referee shall forfeit the game if a team refuses to play after being instructed to do so by any officials 7. It appears that a fight may occur on the playing court. A6 and A7 leave their bench and enter the court. RULING: A6 and A7 are assessed flagrant technical fouls. Team A coach is assessed one indirect technical foul and Team B will shoot two free throws. 8. Three substitutes from Team B leave their bench and come onto the court during a fight. RULING: Three team fouls are added to Team B's foul total for the half. 9. The horn sounds to end the third period. As the teams are heading to their benches, A1 and B1 verbally taunt each other. RULING: Double technical foul charged to A1 and B1. Also charge both head coaches with indirect technical foul. 10. It is a technical foul charged to A5 and an indirect technical foul to the Team A coach when A5 leaves the court and sits on the bench for an unauthorized reason to demonstrate disgust with the official's call. 11. B1 commits a hard foul against A1 from behind on a breakaway lay-up and is called for an intentional foul. The try is successful. The Team A head coach protests that the foul was flagrant and is assessed a technical foul. RULING: A1 shall receive two free throws with the lane space cleared. Then Team B is awarded two free throws and a throw-in at the division line opposite the scorer's table. 12. Hand-checking is considered incidental contact.

13. A1 has the ball for a designated spot throw-in and is being guarded by B1 who is inbounds. A1 loses her balance and reaches out and puts her hand on B1 to regain her balance. RULING: Throw-in violation on A1. 14. Intentional fouls are not based solely on the severity of the act. 15. It is a basket interference violation to touch the net while the ball is on the rim or within the imaginary cylinder above the rim. 16. It is a violation if A1 dives for a loose ball and gains control on the floor. 17. The jurisdiction of the officials is terminated after completion of any reports required for disqualifications are submitted. 18. The substitute must attempt the free throw(s) for a personal foul when the offended player must withdraw due to an injury. 19. The visiting team is required to have a contrasting uniform color, which is the darker of their school colors. 20. Team A is playing with 5 players and has no remaining eligible substitutes. Player A5 gets a cramp and the coach is beckoned onto the floor. The coach does not desire to use a time-out. RULING: Team A may play with four players. A5 may return to the game after recovery. 21. Thrower-in A1 shoves defensive player B1 with her free arm and displaces her. RULING: Player control foul on A1. 22. Team control does not exist during a throw-in. 23. After a head coach has lost his coaching box privileges, he may legally use the coaching box to replace or remove a disqualified player. 24. One of the principles of verticality is that the defender may not belly up or use the lower part of the body or arms to cause contact outside his/her vertical plane. 25. During the second quarter, the Team A head coach receives an indirect technical foul and loses his coaching box privileges. In the third period, the head coach jumps up and down within the bench area in reaction to a dunk by A3. RULING: Allowed by the rules provided the coach immediately returns to his seat. 26. A player's verbal request for a time-out should not be granted unless the ball is dead, in control or at the disposal of a player on his/her team 27. On a throw-in, the ball does not become live until it is touched by the thrower. 28. A1 in the act of shooting is fouled by B1. The horn then sounds ending the quarter prior to A1's release of the ball. A1 then releases the ball and it goes through the basket. RULING: Disallow the basket. Award A1 two free throws with no players in marked lane spaces. 29. On a jump ball, the clock starts when the ball leaves the referee's hand. 30. A5 dunks the ball into the basket. The ball goes below the ring, swirls around the net and pops back out. RULING: No goal. Basket interference on A5. 31. The ball is awarded for a throw-in at the designated spot nearest the foul after a player-control foul.

32. A1 jumps to secure a rebound and then lands on his backside without ever touching the floor with either foot. RULING: Legal since A1's feet did not touch the floor first. 33. A player who catches the ball with both feet on the floor may pivot using either foot. 34. While A1 is dribbling in A s backcourt, the ball legally touches B1 s leg, causing it to bounce away from A1. A1 quickly recovers the ball with two hands and then starts another dribble. RULING: Since the ball was touched by B, the official should start a new 10-second backcourt count. 35. It is a technical foul if a player leaves the court for an unauthorized reason. 36. If an opponent of the thrower reaches through the throw-in boundary plane and fouls the thrower, it is a technical foul. 37. A8 reports to the table. Prior to the ball becoming alive, the scorer informs the referee that A8's number is incorrectly listed in the scorebook. RULING: If the Team A coach returns A8 to the bench, no technical foul shall be called on Team A. 38. It is a technical foul if a player strikes the backboard while a try is in flight. 39. Team A has a designated spot throw-in under their basket. After A1 is given the ball for the throw-in, A5 is in the lane area for 3 seconds after which A1 passes the ball to A5 who makes a lay-up. RULING: Three-second violation on A5 since he was in the lane area with team control by Team A in the frontcourt. 40. All contact that occurs after the ball is dead is ignored unless it is ruled intentional or flagrant. 41. B2 has blood on his uniform and must change jerseys. RULING: Technical foul for having to change number in scorebook. 42. Substitute A6 is beckoned onto the court to replace A1. While heading to the bench, A1 commits an unsporting foul by swearing at an official. RULING: Penalize A1 with a technical foul and also charge an indirect technical foul to the head coach. 43. Personal fouls always involve illegal contact and occur during a live ball, except a common foul by an airborne shooter. 44. During the half-time intermission, officials shall return to the court with 3 minutes remaining to observe players. 45. On free-throws, the center official is responsible for all the lane spaces on the opposite lane line for violations. 46. When the lead official administers an end line throw-in, in the front court, the Trail shall mirror the Lead's start/stop (chop) signal 47. Religious and medical alert medals are considered jewelry and may not be worn. 48. A player sent off the court by an official for showing signs of a concussion may not return to play. 49. A pre-game conference for officials is mandatory. 50. Players who leave the bench and come on court during an altercation shall be ejected from the contest.

51. A substitute becomes a player when he or she legally enters the court to participate. 52. If a player is directed to leave the game for a violation of the uniform rule, the coach may call a time-out to keep the player in the game. 53. Excessive swinging of arms or elbows without contacting an opponent can be either a foul or a violation. 54. A bookkeeping mistake can only be corrected by the officials if it is recognized by the first dead ball after the mistake 55. When A1 is injured and unable to attempt the free throws awarded for a personal foul, Team B's head coach may select A1's replacement free thrower. 56. RULING: Intentional personal foul on A1. 65. In the third quarter, the Team B head coach is charged with his second direct technical foul for disagreeing with an official s call. The coach leaves the court and enters the team locker room. RULING: The head coach cannot enter the locker room following disqualification. 66. Both the center and trail officials should signal for a successful three-point goal. 67.
