Guide to CE Navigation and Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) Guide to CE Navigation CE credit preferences, method of participation and credit designations, disclosures and requirements for eligibility, applying for CE credits, payment, and CE certificates. CE Credit Preferences To set CE preferences, click on the "My CEUs" tab when logged into your CITI Program account. Select Yes to confirm your interest in earning CE credits or No if you are not interested. If Yes, check the type of credits you wish to earn from the options available at the bottom of the page. Lastly, click "Submit" to save your preferences. The completion of these three steps is important. It will ensure that all appropriate CE information and navigational functionalities are activated when using the CITI Program. Method of Participation and Credit Designations Each CE accredited course displays the method of participation and credit designations on a CE Information page prior to beginning a course. This link will appear upon completion of the Integrity Assurance Statement that must be read and acknowledged before commencing coursework. Disclosures and Requirements for Eligibility Click on the CE Information link to view the CE disclosures and requirements to earn the number of credits you desire. CE certified modules are flagged with a Yes in the CE Eligible column on the right hand side of a course s gradebook. Be sure to complete these as need be to ensure you meet the CE eligibility requirement and achieve an average score of 70 percent on all corresponding quizzes. Applying for CE credits Upon completing the number of CE certified modules corresponding to the number of credits you wish to earn, go back to the Main Menu of your profile and click on the Apply Now link located within the CE Eligibility column. On this page, review your CE eligibility information and confirm your intent to register for CE credits by clicking on the Apply link.

Apply Now link does not show on your Main Menu page If the CE Eligibility field shows Not Available on your profile, please verify that you selected YES and that the type of credit you wish to earn is appropriately checked on your CE preferences page. This page is located within the My CEUs tab of your profile. If Not Available still shows, go back to your course gradebook to verify that you completed the number of CE certified modules corresponding to the number of credits you wish to earn. A YES printed in green on your gradebook flags CE certified modules. The number of modules to complete for the number of credits available to purchase is listed on the CE information page that is presented prior to commencing coursework. Payment Payment information will be collected on our secure credit card processing site after completing a course evaluation and CE credit application. Be sure to complete all required fields in each step of the process. Upon payment a receipt will be emailed to you. Information regarding the refund policy can be found at (INSERT LINK). Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) Types CE credits, requirements for eligibility, registration process. Can web- based courses be CE certified for AMA PRA Category 1 Credits TM? Activities that occur over a specified period of time, including those on the Internet, are among CE activities that can be certified through accredited CE providers for AMA PRA Category 1 Credits TM. What certifying organizations approve CITI Program courses for CE credits? CITI Program courses are approved through the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine Division of Continuing Medical Education. This division is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), American Psychological Association (APA), and Georgia Nurses Association (GNA, an accredited

approver by the American Nurses Credentialing Center s Commission On Accreditation), to provide continuing education for physicians, psychologists, nurses, and other health professionals. The Mailman Center for Child Development, Social Work Division, is approved to sponsor continuing education for social workers: LCSW, LMHC, and LMFT. What types of continuing education credits are currently available through CITI Program courses? AMA PRA Category 1 Credits TM for physicians and other participants; CEP credits/hours for psychologists; CNE credits/contact hours for nurses; and LCSW, LMHC, LMFT credits for social workers. What are the eligibility requirements to apply for CE credits? Follow recommendations outlined in the Guide to CE Navigation section of this document, review and acknowledge the CE Information page before starting your course, complete the number of CE certified modules corresponding to the number of credits you wish to earn, and achieve an average score of 70 percent on all corresponding quizzes. Are CITI Program s courses permanently certified for CE credits? No. As it is with all certified continuing education courses, CITI Program s courses are certified for a period of time specified by approving organizations. The credit designation period is typically three years for CITI Program courses. Credit designation periods are listed on the Course Lists link within the CE Credits tab on our homepage (www.citiprogram.org). Is there a deadline to apply for CE credits? Yes. In order for credits to be awarded, course completion and application for CE credits must occur within the credit designation period assigned by approvers for your course and profession. Credit designation periods are listed on the Course Lists link within the CE Credits tab on our homepage (www.citiprogram.org). How are Completion Reports and Continuing Education Certificates different? Completion Reports document the successful completion of a course. These reports cannot be used to meet your licensing board recertification requirements. Continuing Education Certificates certify that you successfully completed an approved set of CE accredited modules. They can be used to meet your state board, broker, or professional licensing board recertification requirements. Are deadlines for CE credit applications the same as institutional deadlines to complete courses? No. However CE credits can only be awarded upon completing the specified number of modules.

Does CITI Program send my CE certificates to my state board or other licensing board? No. CITI Program delivers certificates to participants purchasing CE credits but does not submit them to state boards, brokers, or any other licensing boards. It is up to the individual to submit that information to these bodies. We suggest that you contact them for further assistance. Will the CITI Program update me on my professional recertification status? No. Your licensing board and/or professional association will. CITI can inform you on the status of certified courses and modules you have completed. How can I view my CITI Program CE credit history? Your earned CE credits are stored in CITI Program s database and available for review by clicking on the View Previously Completed Course Work link located within your profile s learner tools. Relevancy of CITI Program Courses and CE Credits for Recertification by Profession Healthcare Professions Are AMA PRA Category 1 Credits TM recognized for maintenance of certification across health related professions? The Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) through the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine accredits CITI Program. The American Psychological Association (APA), American Osteopathic Association (AOA), American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), American Academy of Nurse Practitioners (AANP), and American Academy of Physician Assistants (AAPA) accept AMA PRA Category 1 Credit TM from organizations accredited by the ACCME for renewal of certification. Please check directly with your own licensing and/or certification agency for eligibility of these credits. Are APA credits delivered through CITI Program courses accepted by psychological state boards towards their ethics CE requirement? CEP certificates delivered through CITI Program courses mention the number of hours of ethics earned. A number of psychological state boards accept these ethics CE credits towards satisfying their ethics continuing education requirement. Please verify with your state board that they will accept a the CITI CEP certificate to meet these requirements.

Have CITI Program courses been approved by the American Counseling Association (ACA) to provide training to certified counselors? CITI Program is applying to be a National Board for Certified Counselors (NBCC) approved provider of continuing education activities. In the meantime, you may be able to apply for American Psychological association (AMA) approved CE credits earned through CITI Program courses. It is your responsibility to determine if your licensing board will accept AMA credits. Can online independent studies be used for Nursing Contact Hours? Independent studies that are approved for continuing education credits may be used for 100 percent of the hours required for certification renewal. Do nurses receive the same number of credits per activity as physicians? Yes. Per the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), beginning Jan. 1, 2007, 1.0 Continuing Nursing Education (CNE) credit is issued for each 60- minute activity completed. Partial credit will be awarded for activities of less than 60 minutes. Are GNA approved nursing credits accepted nationwide? CNE contact hours from ANCC/GNA approved activities are the most widely accepted contact hours for re- licensure and certifications in specialty areas. However, since regulations may differ from state to state based on current legislation or certifying organizations based on their mission, the individual nurse is responsible for verifying the requirements for their specific situation. Are AMA PRA Category 1 Credits accepted by nursing certifying agencies? State Boards of Nursing typically accept these credits for the recertification of Master Level nurses. Are Social Worker credits awarded through the CITI Program accepted nationally? No. Available social worker credits have been approved through the Florida Board of Clinical Social Work, Marriage and Family Therapy, and Mental Health Counseling. Please verify with your licensing agency that they accept the credits offered through CITI Program s courses.

Recertification in Clinical Research Professions Can ACRP members claim CITI Program s CE credits towards their professional recertification? CITI Program is approved by ACRP as an acceptable provider of continuing education contact hours. CCRA, CCRC, and CCTI participants holding ACRP Membership status can use AMA PRA Category 1 Credit TM and nursing CNE credit/contact hours delivered through CITI Program courses to meet professional licensure and ACRP certification maintenance requirements. Are CE credits available to SoCRA members for purchase? Yes. The University of Miami Miller School of Medicine Division of Continuing Medical Education will provide up to nine credits for the Human Subjects Research Basic Course and up to six credits for the GCP for Clinical Trials with Investigational Drugs & Medical Devices (U.S. FDA Focus) course. Physicians, physician's assistants, psychologists, nurses, and other healthcare providers interested in obtaining CE credits must indicate their preferences for specific CE credit types on their CITI Program profile. Click on the My CEUs tab when logged into your account to set these preferences. Does the Council for Certified Professional IACUC Administrators (CCPIA) recognize CITI Program s courses for recertification? The CCPIA is currently revising the recertification guidelines. CITI Program's Animal Care and Use (ACU) courses will count as category #2 credits for IACUC- related online training and webinars. Other Professions Are learners not affiliated with the AMA, APA, AAPA, or the ANA and affiliated nursing associations eligible for CE credits? Learners not affiliated with one of these organizations may receive a Certificate of Participation. This certificate includes the course title, completion date, approved number of AMA PRA Category 1 Credits, and indicates a successful completion. Many agencies and boards will accept the certificate of participation as proof of completion of a CE certified activity although we urge you to check directly with your agencies to confirm this. Will the CITI Program offer CE credits and units to other professions with or without responsibilities in clinical research? Yes. CITI Program is evaluating provider status through a number of professional associations, societies, and boards. Please contact us if you have suggestions.
