An end to stains and mould System solutions for interior rooms with stains and mould Experience Quality.

A beautiful, cosy home At home we just want to feel comfortable. After all, a beautiful environment increases the quality of life.

at risk due to mould and stains A beautiful, cosy home most people put a high value on feeling comfortable in their own private environment. In a survey in the European Union 89 percent of all adults in the current EU member states say that their home is decisive for their quality of life*. The increasing trend towards cocooning, the withdrawing into one s own four walls, also ensures that investment is increasing in things which improve the feel-good factor at home**. The home idyll can however be permanently disturbed by mould growth or stains on walls and ceilings due to fire or water damage, soiling due to soot, nicotine and grease deposits. Such effects can significantly impair the environment at home or at work. Once visible damage is present, sustainable strategies for combating mould and other stains or soiling are demanded. * European Foundation for the Improvement of Living & Working Conditions, 2004 ** Focus-Money, No. 9/2009

Mould and stains:

unpleasant, annoying, harmful Mould: harmful to health With an attack of mould fungi, apart from the annoying appearance, there is also a hazard for the building occupants. Mould fungi in interiors can cause long-term allergic reactions. Coughs, runny noses, fatigue, headaches, skin rashes or irritation in the mouth and throat region the list of symptoms is a long one. To remedy the situation it is essential to combat the causes of the mould. These are generally a combination of high room humidity, ambient temperature and availability of nutrients. If there are no constructional defects, such as thermal bridges, unsealed roofs or cracked walls, often inadequate or incorrect ventilation of the rooms is the reason for the mould growth. Once the cause of the mould growth is clear, proper renovation must be started promptly. Stains: visual soiling The soiling of wall and ceiling surfaces by water, smoke, soot, grease or nicotine can be unpleasant or repellent depending on the extent. All the same, the causes of this soiling are comparatively easy to find and usually to remedy too. are particularly found in private or commercial kitchens or canteens. Nicotine stains occur where intensive tobacco smoking regularly takes place. Water damage generally arises due to the fracture or bursting of water pipes or other defects in the piping, but also due to flooding or leaky roofs. Smoke and soot damage is usually caused by fires, charring, defective stoves and heating systems, oil lamps or also candles. Excessive grease deposits An end to stains and mould No matter whether the problem is mould or stains, when the damage is found, suitable materials must be used which are specially formulated for resolving this type of problem. On the following pages you will find out more about suitable products and system solutions which have been well proven in practice. >>

Pretreatment and priming Soot deposits Water damage Mould Pretreatment of stains and mould The correct pretreatment for a coating is always an important prerequisite for a satisfactory result of painting work. This applies especially to the preparation when dealing with mould growth and stains. Special priming coats are needed depending on the substrate present. Pretreatment of mould growth Surfaces with mould growth must first be prepared by scrupulous wet cleaning. After adequate drying, the microbiocide Capatox* can be employed for additional cleaning. This is particularly recommended if the finishing coat is to be applied after drying without a priming coat. Where priming of the absorbent substrate is necessary, priming and disinfection can take place in one step using FungiGrund*. Pretreatment of stains With sealing coats such as AquaSperrgrund fein (fine) or Filtergrund grob (coarse) the removal of adhesion-inhibiting substances is a basic requirement for lasting durability. Grease, soot and nicotine should be removed, for example, with soapy water. With water stains any loose existing coat should be removed mechanically with a brush. The Caparol products AquaSperrgrund fein or Filtergrund grob are used when an aqueous coating follows. Mechanical wet cleaning Disinfection with Capatox Finishing coat

Product summary Capatox* FungiGrund* For use against algae and fungi. Aqueous microbiocide solution for pretreating algae and mould growth on exterior and interior surfaces. Ready for use. Anti-mould paints Product summary Indeko-W* Fungitex-W* Effective and efficient. Matt synthetic-resin interior paint for high quality renovation coats on surfaces already with or prone to mould growth in industrial high-humidity rooms as well as for improving room hygiene in private living quarters. Wet Abrasion Class 2 fungicide, bactericide resistant to disinfectants matt Hard-wearing and durable. Special, silk matt latex paint with fungicidal and bactericidal long-lasting effects. For surfaces with or prone to mould growth. Especially for industrial high-humidity rooms. Wet Abrasion Class 1 easy to clean resistant to disinfectants conforms to food hygiene directive

Anti-mould paints: safe, effective, preventative Mould growth in interior rooms represents an important health risk. Above all, children as well as the old and infirm react to fungi with toxic or allergic reactions. Repair and renovation of such areas of fungal growth is essential. or with FungiGrund* for absorbent, porous surfaces, is the correct procedure here. Then, two coats of one of the anti-mould interior paints from Caparol should be applied. Here, it is imperative to remove the existing growth and to prevent premature new growth. The pretreatment must not, of course, be a burden to occupants nor to those undertaking the work. Thorough wet cleaning of the surfaces followed by additional cleaning with Capatox*, Malerit-W* Sensitive. Solvent-free, matt interior paint for renovation coats on surfaces already with or prone to mould growth as well as for improving room hygiene in private living quarters. Wet Abrasion Class 3 fungicide, bactericide matt solvent-free *Apply biocides safely. Always read the label and product information before use.

Water-thinnable sealing paints

for use against stains Water-thinnable sealing paints for use against stains: clean, quick-drying, environmentally friendly With interior sealing paints aqueous coatings are becoming more and more important due to increasingly stringent legal and communal requirements with regard to ecology and health. For example, an increasing number of consumers in the private and industrial fields expect proposed coatings to be with an aqueous base even with problematical renovation conditions. Caparol takes this demand into account with two special interior paints. They can be ideally used as aqueous coatings for problem situations such as nicotine stains, dried-out water stains or soot deposits. Scrupulous pretreatment is here also a basic requirement for a good painting result. Product summary IsoDeck Aqua-inn N o 1 Special interior paint with sealing effect against nicotine discolouration. Solvent-free, for quick, environmentally friendly renovation without waiting time and without unpleasant odours. The high performer. Water-thinnable, matt alkyd paint for interiors. Solvent-based sealing paints

for use against stains Solvent-based sealing paints for use against stains: fast, clean, efficient Today, speed, cleanliness and deadline compliance are especially important in the industrial sector. Products are required which solve the most varied problems quickly and efficiently. Due to their wide scope of performance, solvent-based coatings are preferred. here consideration of the odour effects is a basic requirement. The Dupa-inn interior paint is available for this sort of application. For use on large buildings it is recommended that the quick-renovating paint, Dupafix multi, is employed. The most varied substrates and problem situations, such as for example, soot, nicotine, dried-out water stains or mould growth, can be quickly and reliably dealt with. In private areas and areas with public traffic, along with the reliable processing, also sensory stresses play an important role. Therefore, Product summary Dupafix multi Dupa-inn Solvent-based, special coating, free of aromatics, for interiors and especially for difficult mixed substrates in the industrial sector.
