FREEDOM FROM GLASSES OR CONTACT LENSES FOR LIFE

Freedom Eye Laser can free you from glasses and contact lenses, achieving superb quality of vision with the safest possible eye procedure. Our patients report that the freedom from contacts and glasses enriches their lives in many ways. Being able to see immediately in the morning when they first wake, swimming in the sea, surfing and being able to see the waves, noticing small details in the leaves and environment around them, watching their children s or grandchildren s faces, feeling and looking younger are to name a few. The inconvenience of glasses, fumbling for them when you wake, the pressure of glasses on the bridge of your nose, the fogging up of your lenses when there are changes in temperature, rain or sweat on the lenses, the additional cost of prescription sunglasses and standard glasses, having to clean and store contacts, always having to have the right solutions to take with you, the irritation of contact lenses plus an increased risk of infections from the contacts and from touching your eyes are all things our patients report to be wonderful things to have left behind. Vision correction is far safer than contact lenses for risks such as infection and over a lifetime represents a huge financial saving against having to constantly purchase glasses and contact lenses. Freedom Eye Laser provides what it says... freedom.

OUR VISION AND COMMITMENT Vision is our most precious sense. There can be no compromise where your vision is concerned. Freedom Eye Laser provides the highest quality laser vision correction. We have the best laser technology that exists, coupled with a surgeon who has world-class experience and highest-level specialist Fellowship training in Laser Eye Surgery. When you visit our surgery, your entire experience from the practice environment itself, the warmth and attentiveness of staff, and an unrelenting commitment to quality underpins the core values of Freedom Eye Laser. We use the most advanced technology for all types of eye surgery and laser surgery. We deliver excellence in the quality of individualised patient care, communication and follow up support. You will be assessed personally by Dr Genge, your surgeon, who will determine how to achieve your visual goals. Safety and accuracy is paramount. The attention to detail, apparent in every aspect of the practice, is a reflection of our commitment to providing you freedom, not just from glasses but freedom to live your life the way you choose.

FREEDOM FOR 20 45 YEAR OLDS For most 20-45 year olds, after an initial assessment we recommend LASIK treatment. LASIK is performed using a mild local anaesthetic and our patients are given a mild sedative to help them relax during the procedure. The procedure lasts less than 20 minutes and is performed in our refractive treatment room purpose built for the Alcon Refractive Suite, which offers maximum ease and comfort. The procedure is performed on a bed that rotates between the two lasers. Immediately after the treatment your vision will be somewhat blurred, similar to looking through a fine mist. We fit clear protective shields over both eyes, provide you with eye drops and analgesia then we send you home to relax for the rest of the day. Initially your eyes will be mildly watery and irritated. This discomfort is comfortably controlled with the analgesia provided and resolves completely within 3 to 4 hours. A follow up appointment is given for the next morning. When you wake the day after surgery the shields can be removed and what you experience next is what we at Freedom Eye Laser refer to as The Moment. The majority of people have vision equal to or sharper than 20/20. Your eyes will be comfortable and vision will continue to improve over the next day or so.

Before 45 years of age, the lens inside your eye can change shape to give you a range of focus. It is relatively flat for distance and thickens to provide close up vision for tasks such as reading. When we reach 45 years of age the lens starts to stiffen and doesn t change shape as easily as it used to. This results in near vision becoming blurred and reading glasses become a necessity. Freedom Eye Laser performs lens replacement surgery for people over 45 years utilising latest generation trifocal intra-ocular lenses. This allows you to achieve complete and permanent independence from glasses for all visual tasks: from distance vision such as driving, intermediate such as using a computer and for reading a book of fine print. FREEDOM FOR 45 YEARS AND OVER anaesthetist who will place anaesthetic around the eye whilst you are transiently asleep. You will be sedated and will not be able to see or feel anything during the procedure. During lens replacement surgery, a micro incision entrance port is created of only 2.2 mm that is a self-sealing incision requiring no stitches. We access the natural lens via this incision. A 5 mm circular opening is then created in the front of the lens capsule. The lens is fragmented and removed, leaving its natural capsule intact. The intra-ocular lens is placed within the capsular bag. It unfolds within the patient s capsular bag. The procedure is then complete. Both eyes will work together allowing for perfect depth perception to be maintained with colours leaping back into vividness. Freedom Eye Laser can make the dream of freedom from reading glasses a reality. The eyes are generally corrected individually (1 week apart), although it is possible to perform the procedure on both eyes simultaneously. The procedure takes 15 minutes per eye. The procedure is performed with the assistance of an After treatment a pad is placed over the eye. This stays in place overnight and usually the eye is completely comfortable. We then send you home to relax for the rest of the day. A follow up appointment is given for the next morning. Following lens replacement surgery, recovery is rapid and the eye is pain free. When you wake the day after surgery, the shields can be removed. You will be able to see, although generally vision is mildly blurred due to residual pupil dilation. As this wears off over a further day, vision continues

to sharpen and you can expect to experience what we at Freedom Eye Laser refer to as The Moment. Most people return to work within 1 to 2 days. The procedure is extremely safe. Dr Genge is subspecialty trained in highly complex cataract surgery to ensure you feel confident. Freedom Eye Laser is the right place to have this performed. The brilliant clarity of the lenses allows for not only superb vision but also recaptures the vividness of colours and provides perfect depth perception. The lenses remain this way for life. In less than 5% of cases where there is a small residual glasses prescription, the outcome can be perfected with a laser touch up. Over a further day, vision continues to sharpen and you can expect to experience what we at Freedom Eye Laser refer to as The Moment.

DR JAMES GENGE James Genge studied medicine and then eye surgery out of a desire to care for people. With this goal, James pursued and achieved world-class training and vast experience at the highest level. The best part of my job is seeing how happy I make people by doing something I love. I get to meet such a broad spectrum of people and get great satisfaction in hearing how treatment improves their everyday lives. James is one of only a handful of Ophthalmic Surgeons with Fellowship training in Laser Vision Correction and Intra- Ocular Lens surgery. He obtained this higher qualification at Moorfields Eye Hospital, London one of the most prestigious Eye Institutions in the World. James has progressed and developed his skills over a further decade. As an invited speaker at International Conferences, he stays at the forefront of technology and techniques. James has a personal approach to medicine and connects with his patients by first gaining a thorough understanding of their hopes and goals. The results are then achieved by applying the best equipment, skill and experience.
