Witches exit. : Welcome to the hills of Scotland where it all begins. A story of black magic and of murdered Kings. Fanfare. King Duncan and his courtiers enter. A messenger enters breathlessly. Messenger King Duncan Messenger : Your Majesty, your Majesty, I have news from the battlefield. : Well speak up! Don t keep me waiting! : The rebels have been defeated. and are returning home. The courtiers applaud and congratulate the King King Duncan Courtier 1 Courtier 2 Courtier 3 Messenger King Duncan : s efforts must be rewarded. : Why not make him a Lord your Majesty? : He is already Lord of Glamis. : The Lord of Cawdor was the leader of the rebels. : He was killed during the battle your Majesty. : Then my decision is made. I shall make Lord of Cawdor as well. The King writes out a message and hands it to the Messenger who exits. Fanfare. All exit.

: And so a message was sent to give his reward. To tell him that, of Cawdor, he was now the Lord. Across the heath, and were returning home. Suddenly it all went dark and they were no longer alone. and enter chatting happily. Suddenly it goes dark and the Witches enter slowly. There is a rumble of thunder. and draw their swords. The Witches circle the two men. Witch 1 Witch 2 Witch 3 : Who are you? : What do you want? : Stand aside you horrible hags! : All hail! Hail to thee Lord of Glamis. : Yes I am, Lord of Glamis. : And I am, Lord of : All hail! Hail to thee Lord of Cawdor. : No, he s not the Lord of : All hail, who shall be King of Scotland! : Who shall be king? : What about me? The Witches turn on suddenly making him jump. Witches :! You will NOT be King, but you will be the father of Kings.

The Witches vanish. : Wait, tell me more. Who were they? : They said I will be King. : Yes, but they also called you the Lord of Cawdor when you re not. He was killed in the battle. The Messenger enters breathlessly. Messenger Messenger Witches (offstage) : My Lord, my Lord. I have news from the King! : Well speak up! Don t keep me waiting! : (Reading scroll) In honour of your glorious victory I, King Duncan, pronounce you Lord of Cawdor. : All hail! Hail to thee Lord of Cawdor : How did those witches know you were going to become Lord of Cawdor? : I don t know but they also said I would become King! : Excited by the news wrote a letter home to tell his wife about his future upon the Scottish throne. writes a letter and hands it to the Messenger who exits. and exit. Lady enters followed by the Messenger who enters breathlessly. The Messenger hands Lady the letter.

: As soon as the letter reached the hand of Lady she began to plot and plan King Duncan s death. She arranged a victory feast for the following night. To the King and his sons she sent a formal invite. Lady hands the Messenger the invites and he exits. Soon after enters and hugs his wife. Lady Lady Lady Lady : Tonight you must kill the King. : Sssh. I can t. He is my cousin. : For you to be King, Duncan must die. : But how. when? : Tonight, as he sleeps, you will take the daggers from his guards and stab him through the heart. : How will I get them from his guards? : I will put a potion in their drinks. They will sleep heavily. Fanfare. The s prepare to meet their guests. King Duncan, Donalbain, Malcolm and their servants enter. bows and Lady curtsies. Lady : Your Majesty, it is a pleasure having you as our guest as always. Looking even more handsome than ever. And as for your sons, Malcolm and Donalbain. Lady takes King Duncan s hand and kisses it. She then does the same to Malcolm and Donalbain.

King Duncan Donalbain Malcolm : The pleasure is all mine Lady. : You must be very proud of your husband. : His bravery has given us an important victory. : I was only doing my duty Sir. My servants will show you to your rooms. claps his hands. His servants enter and take the bags. King Duncan, Donalbain and Malcolm follow the servants offstage. Lady : It must be done tonight! She exits followed by. King Duncan is lying on his bed. Two guards stand to attention. Lady brings the Guards two tankards of beer then exits. : While King Duncan slept two Guards waited by the door. After drinking the poisoned beer they soon began to snore. The Guards slump asleep. Lady and enter. Lady Lady : The coast is clear. Now is the time. : I can t do it! There must be another way! : You are a coward! You don t deserve to be King. A king is supposed to be strong and courageous not pathetic and weak. Take the guard s daggers and go and do the deed. I will be Queen! Lady exits. creeps up to the sleeping guards and takes their daggers. He enters the Kings chamber, stands by the bed and hesitates.

Lady : (offstage) You are a coward! You don t deserve to be King! Angrily, plunges both daggers into King Duncan s chest. There is a crack of thunder. panics and runs from the room dropping the daggers by the guards. : That night s sleep was haunted by hideous dreams. In the morning he was woken by a piercing scream. Lady has entered the King s chamber and lets out a bloodcurdling scream. The guards awake and reach for their daggers., Malcolm and Donalbain rush onstage. Lady Malcolm Lady Donalbain : (Acting shocked) He, he, he is dead! : Dead! How can that be? : He has been stabbed! Twice through the heart! : (Noticing the guard s daggers) Look, your daggers! They re covered in blood! : You killed him! While he slept. Traitors!!! draws his sword and leaps forward stabbing both guards with one thrust. They fall down dead. Donalbain Malcolm Donalbain : He was their King! They were supposed to protect him! : They must have worked for the rebels. : It is not safe for us here! : I will flee to England.

Malcolm : And I to Ireland. Malcolm and Donalbain exit. Lady hugs. They exit and the bodies are removed. : With the sons out of the country was duly crowned. Racked with guilt he worried that the truth would soon be found. He wanted to be King forever, he never wanted to go. But he worried about the son of his old friend,. and Lady enter. Lady Lady : The witches said his son would become King. : Then you know what you must do? : What? : Kill the boy and his father. Then our reign will be safe. : Now that the crown is mine I will do whatever it takes to keep it. Lady exits. Two assassins enter. whispers to them both. They nod in agreement and then move to the back of the stage. exits. : Later that night the s held a feast of celebration. All the Lords of the land came to see the coronation. and his son enter chatting happily. The Assassins begin to stalk them.

: As and his son made their way to Castle s men attacked them and stabbed to death. There is a brief fight between and the Assassins. is stabbed and falls to the ground. His son manages to escape and flees. : had wanted s son to die that day but in the violent struggle the boy managed to slip away. The Assassins carry s body offstage. enters and then the Assassins join him. Assassin 1 Assassin 2 : Is it done? : is dead. : And the boy? : He got away. : What!!! I told you he must die. You will pay for this with you lives. Assassin1 kicks Assassin2 Assassin 1 : Ignore him your majesty. Just his idea of a joke. The boy is dead. I have his blood on my hands. : Then you have done well. Come, let me reward you. A table is brought on stage. Lady and sit at the ends. Ross, Angus and sit along the side. Lady is chatting happily with the Lords. is silent.

: In the castle s grand hall the Lords were having a good time. But believed they all knew about his crime. However none of the guests knew the truth about their host. As they sat there eating saw s ghost. s ghost enters behind the table. sees him and cries out in shock. None of the others can see the ghost. Ross Angus Ross Angus Lady Ross : (gasping)! : Yes, where is? : You killed me. : I guess he couldn t make it. : (Backing away from ) I didn t do it! : Do what my Lord? : Kill him. : Who, King Duncan? : (Pointing at ). : killed King Duncan? : You cannot hide the truth forever. : No, get away from me! Leave me alone! : Your Majesty? : Forgive my husband, he is still grief stricken. : Of course, we should leave.

Angus : (Crying) Please, leave me alone. I did not do it! : Good night my Lady, my Lord. Angus, Ross and bow and then exit. s ghost remains. Lady Lady : Can you not see him? : Who? :, right before your eyes! : Stop it! (She slaps him) Your behaviour will make them suspicious. s ghost slowly exits. Lady : Could you not see him? : I saw nothing! She exits eventually followed by. The table is cleared away. : Later that night as her husband lay in bed Lady was haunted by visions of the dead. Lady stands in the middle of the stage. King Duncan and circle her. She holds her head in her hand and drops to her knees. King Duncan and exit. Lady then exits hurriedly. : was desperate to know what his future had in store. So he went to find the witches so that they could tell him more. The witches enter and circle a large cauldron.

Witch 1 Witch 2 : Double, double, toil and trouble. : Fire burn and cauldron bubble. enters. The witches hide behind the cauldron. : Witches! Show yourself to me! I need to know if my crown is safe. Will I still be King? There is a crash of thunder. Witches : All hail! The witches slowly appear and begin to circle. Witch 1 Witch 2 Witch 3 Witch 1 Witch 2 Witch 3 Witch 1 : Hail to thee Lord of Glamis. : Hail to thee Lord of Cawdor. : Hail to thee King of Scotland. : Beware of, the Lord of Fife. : For he is the only one who can end your life. : You will never be defeated until Great Birnam Wood : Climbs the hill upon which your castle is stood. The witches slowly exit. : Wait! What do you mean Great Birnam Wood climbs the hill? He exits.

: returned to tell his wife the news that unless the trees began to walk he would never lose. and Lady enter. Lady Lady : Then we have nothing to fear. Who ever heard of trees moving? The forest cannot touch us here. : But what about? : You know what to do. She exits. : must die! summons the Assassins who enter. He whispers to them. They nod and then leave. : So sent his men to kill the Lord of Fife. But they could not find him so killed his child and wife. They knew would be angry so both of them lied and told that had indeed died. The Assassins enter. Assassin 1 Assassin 2 : The job is done your Majesty. : will trouble you no more. The Assassins exit. : Then no-one can hurt me. I am the King!

The Doctor enters in a hurry. Doctor Doctor Doctor : Your Majesty I have grave news. Your wife is ill. : Is it serious? : I m afraid the fever is very severe. She claims to see ghosts. : Ghosts? Of who? : I do not know. I must return to her. Do you wish to see her? nods and they both exit. : When heard about his family he vowed to get revenge. To help him defeat he called upon his friends. enters followed by Malcolm and Donalbain. Malcolm Donalbain Malcolm : Thank you both for coming. : We were both shocked when we heard what had happened to your family. : We have both suffered losses at the hand of. : You think killed our father? : I am sure of it. I think he ordered s murder as well. : Then let us gather an army together and reclaim the throne.

They all exit. : As they gathered an army the Doctor came to see and broke the news that she had taken her final breath. Enter and the Doctor. Doctor : Her suffering is over. Lady is dead. drops to his knees, head in his hands. Doctor leaves slowly. As sobs a Servant enters. Servant : Your Majesty! Your Majesty! An army approaches. They carry the flag of Prince Malcolm and Prince Donalbain. They are taking cover in Great Birnam Wood. jumps to he feet and looks out. At the back of the auditorium soldiers camouflaged with branches begin to move forwards. Witches : The trees! They are moving this way! : (Offstage) You will never be defeated until Great Birnam Wood climbs the hill upon which your castle is stood. : Make sure my guards are ready. Prepare to defend the castle at all costs. s guards gather on stage. The Princes army approaches. There is a large fight during which kills several soldiers. : The witches were right, I have nothing to fear. No-one can hurt me now! appears behind.

: Is that so? : You are nothing but a ghost. I had you killed. : Your men killed my wife and son, but I am very much alive. lunges forward and there is a swordfight. Eventually is killed. Malcolm and Donalbain enter. : Now that is dead the crown can be given to its rightful owner. takes the crown from and places it upon Malcolm. All : Hail King Malcolm. Hail King of Scotland. : Hail King Malcolm! Hail King of Scotland! and Donalbain both kneel either side of Malcolm. : So had brought an end to s evil reign and Scotland had a true and noble King once again. All stand and take their bows. Final Curtain. : Thank you all for watching we hope you enjoyed the show. All we ask is for a round of applause before you have to go.
