The Energy Savings Opportunity Scheme Understanding and complying with ESOS. What is ESOS? ESOS Assessment Process ESOS is the UK Government s approach to implementing Article 8 of the EU Energy Efficiency Directive. It is a mandatory energy assessment and energy savings identification scheme for organisations operating in the UK. Organisations affected by ESOS will need to demonstrate compliance with the scheme every four years. The first compliance phase lasts from 6 December 2011 to 5 December 2015 and the qualification date for eligible organisations is 31 December 2014. Who does it affect? The scheme will apply to organisations operating in the UK that have: 250 or more employees; or fewer than 250 employees but an annual turnover and balance sheet exceeding 50m and 43m, respectively. Within a corporate group, it only takes one organisation to qualify for ESOS for the entire group to fall within the scheme, regardless of their size. Organisations that are required to comply with the Public Contracts Regulations 2006 or the Public Contracts Regulations (Scotland) 2012 are exempt from the scheme. 2

BREEAM Compliant Energy Monitoring and Metering The ability to monitor energy consumption, identify inefficiencies and highlight areas for improvement is an essential part of energy management. ARC s automatic monitoring and targeting services, energy manager software and smart metering technology provide a real time, flexible and customisable energy management solution to enable businesses to save energy, reduce costs and minimise carbon emissions. Our energy management system is fully BREEAM compliant with both minimum requirements and to gain additional BREEAM credits. This system can also be used to measure and validate the effectiveness of energy efficiency projects such as LED re-lamping, voltage optimisation or Combined Heat and Power installations and renewable energy. Decrease energy spend by an average of 21% Short return on investment the solution typically pays for itself within 6-12 months The Energy Manager Software offers property managers a simple solution to produce bills for multi-occupancy establishments. It produces monthly invoices for multiple occupiers, runs monthly consumption reports and can email tenants automatically with their customised invoices. 3 Installed with zero downtime or disruption to the organization 24/7 online access to real-time energy profile Fully scalable solution that can be extended in line with the development and growth of the organisation The reports provided can be used to demonstrate an organisation s commitment to carbon reduction The reporting system can assist with your Carbon Reduction Commitment reporting process Energy monitoring to comply with BREEAM requirements and gain additional credits.

Low Energy Lighting Our commercial customers are saving up to 70% on their lighting bills and some achieve paybacks of less than 2 years. Low energy lighting is often the cornerstone to an energy reduction project. At ARC we use the latest technology in LED and Induction lighting, combined with motion and photocell sensors. Used together or standalone these technologies can reduce lighting bills by up to 80%. The longevity of the low energy lighting means ongoing maintenance is almost eradicated, whilst the general lighting environment is enhanced as the light output changes little over time. We survey your building(s), assess the business s current and future lighting requirements and find the most suitable and cost effective solution. We specialise in turnkey refurbishment projects and in finding a tailor-made solution which delivers maximum benefit to the business. Lighting bills reduced by up to 80% Lighting maintence almost eradicated Lighting environment enhanced Up to 5 year product warranties Reduced Carbon footprint Increased staff productivity Carbon taxes reduced 4

Voltage Optimisation An average commercial site can expect to reduce energy consumption by 12%-17%. Voltage optimisation reduces the incoming voltage supplied to a building to an optimum level. This process reduces the onsite energy consumption, saving on electricity and reducing the wear on electrical equipment. the transformer side as well as the load side. This solution combines a super low-loss amorphous core HV/LV transformer with integrated electronic-dynamic voltage optimisation technology, allowing for 11,000v input and regulated 180v output. In the UK, most electrical equipment is rated to run optimally at 220V, but the average voltage supplied by the national grid is 242V, so in most cases building are supplied with a higher voltage than is needed. A higher voltage just means wasted energy in the form of heat. If your site operates its own HV/LV (distribution) transformer then perhaps the most effective option is to install a system which produces savings on both Up to 20% saving on electricity Pay-back of capital investment less than 2 years No behavioural changes/maintenance required Increases the operational life of electrical equipment Operates continually 5 year warranty (15 years on the transformers) Incoming voltage from the National Power Grid Power supplied (average 242 volts) Higher voltage results in electrical equipment being overpowered and therefore shortens their lifespan Excessive voltage results in a greater kva / power demand, increasing your electricity bill Voltage Optimisation Unit Incoming voltage reduced to operating requirement of 220 volts and power quality improved Power supplied at 220 volts Prevents wear and tear on electrical equipment Reduced electricity bills 5

Lava Far Infrared Heating This 100% efficient low energy heating system provides unparalleled thermal comfort at a fraction of the cost of a traditional heating system. Our Lava Far infrared heating panels emit invisible waves of far-infrared energy which heats the thermal mass of a building, rather than the air within it, so the heat will remain longer and be less susceptible to draughts and leakage than traditional convection methods. Because Lava heats the fabric of your building, this provides the added benefit of keeping walls dry and therefore free from damp, condensation and mould. Far infrared offers significant cost savings when compared with the cost of heating with LPG, oil or night storage heaters. Not only that, but because your body feels the warmth that far infrared provides at much lower temperatures, the ambient room temperature can be lowered by 2 C giving you an immediate 12% saving. Silent, safe and sustainable heating 100% efficient High performance, low cost heating Simple to install (can be hardwired or plugged directly in to a 13 Amp socket) & maintenance free Minimises the circulation of dust and other airborne allergens Contemporary & Modern designs 6 Options for personalisation

SOLAMAGIC Infrared Heating Efficient indoor and outdoor radiant heating by combining infrared radiation with perfected technology. SOLAMAGIC is a leading brand of energy efficient infrared heating products made in Germany. The latest generation of ECO Plus radiant heaters are the result of continuous improvement and offer well thought out functionality, discerning design, and a long service life. Thanks to its wavelength, short-wave infrared radiation penetrates the atmosphere particularly well, regardless of the air temperature. This explains why we feel pleasant warmth in the sunshine during winter, despite a relatively low external temperature. The SOLAMAGIC radiant heaters combine shortwave halogen infrared radiation with perfected technology. The result is an extremely efficient form of heating which is particularly suitable for warehouses, workshops, sports halls, churches, balconies, spas, swimming pools or outdoor events and entertaining areas. Keeps people warm rather than heating the air No heat-up phase means effective heat directly after switching on 92 % of electric power is converted to heat giving more performance with less energy use (50 % energy savings compared with other heating systems) Infinitely adjustable heat intensity Suitable for indoor and outdoor use splash-proof and made of weatherproof aluminium No direct CO 2 emission Easy installation with wall, ceiling and tripod mounting options The stainless steel grating at the front provides safety protection Improved dazzle protection from the heating element 7 5,000 hours in case of constant heating

Flue Gas Heat Recovery Systems Flue gas, steam and process heat benefits the bottom line. Heat recovery is recommended in any process where there is heat that would otherwise just be discharged directly into the chimney. The energy loss in excess flue gas or process heat is typically 10% to 15 %, of which approximately 80 % can be recovered with a heat recovery system. Heat recovery is particularly effective where the flue gas temperature is greater than 190 C and the operation has a reasonable demand for hot water. The higher the flue gas temperature and hot water demand the shorter the pay-back period. Burner size and site operating hours also influence the heat recovery values. The recovery of heat takes place through a heat exchanger which is mounted in the flue or air channel. The heat exchanger transfers energy from the warm air to water, which is then transported to a buffer tank. From here the hot water can be used for heating or other processes. Mixer valve ensures a uniform flow temperature to the buffer tank. Circulation pump RoI usually 3-4 years depending on operation 2 year product warranty Modulating system keeps running costs very low High quality components ensure long life and low maintenance costs The only system that guarantees the energy efficiency whilst recovering the heat Savings of up to 15 % on heating costs through heat recovery and mechanical draught systems Recovered heat can be used for heating, cooling, a constant supply of hot water for cleaning or to preheat the water in the steam boilers thereby increasing the savings. Chimney fan ensures an optimal and safe chimney draft Compact plate heat exchanger Stainless steel housing (with or without insulation) The controllers monitor the system and ensure the chimney fan and heat exchanger run optimally and safely. Buffer Tank, where the recovered heat is stored for later use. 8

Boiler Optimisation Highly effective boiler controls delivering between 10% & 20% in fuel cost reductions. Boiler load compensation controls can deliver substantial energy savings - and therefore cost and emission reductions - in the heating of premises as diverse as offices, residential homes and schools through to hotels, prisons and courts. The technology (already installed to well over 15,000 boilers) ensures that the boiler is running at optimum efficiency. The optimisation unit prevents the unnecessary firing of the boiler (known as drycycling ) by monitoring the hot water flow and return temperature to determine the real heating demand rather than the perceived demand generated by room thermostats. Downe House School installed 26 optimisation units giving a 19.48% fuel reduction & ROI of <1 year. Reduces energy costs and carbon emissions Ensures a boiler is always running at maximum efficiency The average saving delivered is around 15%, and in certain installations such as hotels and hospitals where there is a constant and high demand, the savings often exceed 20%. For this reason, we provide a no-nonsense, straightforward guarantee of savings of 10%. 9 Displays how much energy the optimisation unit is saving Alerts you if the unit detects a fault in the heating system Monitors the effectiveness of your boiler maintenance programme Non-invasive 45-minute installation without disruption or long service interruptions Data download enables full performance analysis to be undertaken User-friendly display panel and menu system BMS compatible

Replacing Conventional Boilers with Modern Condensing Boilers New condensing boilers achieve efficiencies of over 90% - delivering a 22% fuel saving. It is recognised that low temperature hot water boilers installed over 15 years ago had an operating efficiency of only 70% when first installed. These will now be less than 60% efficiency. New condensing boilers achieve efficiencies of over 90% and consequently it is worth considering replacement. We offer a fully comprehensive service from boiler selection and system design, through to installation and system commissioning. Our management team are well noted for their ability to work within occupied premises, carrying out boiler plant replacement whilst maintaining a live service with minimal disruption to the business. Replacing a conventional boiler with a condensing boiler can save considerable energy costs. For example, a building with a heating demand of 100KW will have an annual gas bill of approximately 9,000. Installing a new condensing boiler with a seasonal efficiency of 90% can save 2,000 per annum in energy costs which equates to a 22% energy saving. Reduces energy costs and carbon emissions Reduces future boiler maintenance costs In-built commissioning and fault diagnostics Meets Building Regulations (Part L2) Compact size - small footprint Up to 107.5% nett efficiency (fully condensing) Direct weather compensation option NOx <40mg/kWh (Class 5) for maximum BREEAM points 2 year parts and labour warranty 10

Inflector Solar Shades The most effective system available to address the least energy efficient part of your building.the windows. Windows are the most inefficient part of the building envelope and a primary cause of thermal discomfort. deliver significant energy savings by reducing heating loads in the winter and cooling loads in the summer. Inflector provides a cost effective option that is more A single pane window loses 20 times as much heat as the same area in an adjacent well insulated wall, and a double-glazed window loses ten times as much. In reality, windows are thermal sink holes. Control of solar gain in the summer and thermal heat loss in the winter is not only necessary in current highly glazed, poorly insulated buildings, but is critical in the design of new energy efficient commercial buildings. economical and energy efficient than replacement windows and delivers an excellent return on investment of 1.5-2.5 years. In Winter Inflector Solar Shade reflects ultraviolet rays Inflector Solar Shade allows daylight to pass through Window glass Inflector Solar Shade allows solar heat to pass Inflector Solar Shade Inflector Solar Shade reflects interior heat back into the room In Summer Inflector Solar Shade reflects ultra violet rays and solar heat Window glass Inflector Solar Shade Inflector Solar Shade allows daylight to pass through Inflector Solar Shades maintain interior comfort in the building by reflecting heat back into Allows visible light to pass through Reflects solar heat and ultraviolet rays Reflects 72% of radiant heat and 65% solar gain back out through the window in summer the room before it can be Immediate reduction in energy costs lost through the window Return on investment is typically 1.5-2.5 years during winter, and reflects unwanted heat back out through the window during the summer. Reflects interior heat back into room Provides 92% UV protection Significantly reduces the load, wear and maintenance of HVAC units Enhanced level of thermal comfort The Inflector Solar Shades provide multiple benefits of heat reflectivity, solar absorption, plus the ability to re-radiate the absorbed solar energy as radiant heat through the perforated pattern. These three benefits 11 Reduces glare: easy on the eyes, especially for computers and televisions Acts as a positive solar collector in Winter, radiating solar heat into the building

Thermacool Ceiling Tiles & Wall Panels Increase the thermal mass of lightweight and super insulated buildings and reduce the energy consumption of HVAC systems by up to 60%. ThermaCool ceiling tiles and wall panels incorporate tiny microcapsules of phase change material (PCM) that absorb, store and release excess latent heat from Internal temperature with high thermal mass Internal temperature with low thermal mass External temperature within a building. As the room temperature increases above 20 C, the PCM within the microcapsules changes from a solid to a liquid state and in doing so absorbs and stores latent heat. At night as the room temperature cools below 20 C, the PCM returns to a solid state releasing the stored latent heat back into the room thereby complimenting the natural dampening effect of the building mass. The dampening effect during the day reduces the maximum mechanical cooling capacity required. 30 C 15 C Peak temperature delayed by up to 6 hours Day Night Day Up to 6-8 C difference between peak external and internal temperature PCM Phase Transition PCM in solid state at below 19 C PCM core starts to melt as room temperature increases Peak melting temperature at 23 C PCM core starts solidifying as room temperature cools PCM core reverts back to solid state at below 19 C when stored, latent heat is released Thermal mass for lightweight or super insulated buildings Reduce energy demands on the existing HVAC system Reduces Buildings Carbon Footprint Quick and easy to retrofit Flexibility to meet changing needs of the building Improving the thermal comfort and indoor air quality for the occupants of the building Low cost passive solution Accelerated thermal cycle life of over 30 years without loss of performance Fully biodegradable and non-toxic 13

Electric Vehicle Charging Points An Electric Vehicle (EV) can travel 100 miles for as little as 3. With the volatile cost of fuel and its effect on the environment, businesses and individuals are starting to recognise the benefits of running electric vehicles (EV). The British market has experienced a rapid growth of EV sales during 2014. During the first nine months a total of 8,803 plug-in electric cars were registered in the UK, consisting of 4,500 pure electrics and 4,303 plug-in hybrids a 148.1% increase from 2013. Biomass Heating and Combined Heat and Power (CHP) Systems Sustainable, economical and practical heating and CHP solutions with over 20% return on investment and a two-three year payback. A biomass boiler or CHP unit can directly replace your existing system, using wood pellets (sustainable/ recycled wood or other energy crops), chippings or logs as the fuel source. Because the wood is derived from fast growing crops, which consume the CO₂ produced during the combustion process, biomass boilers are rated as carbon neutral. Biomass fuel is widely available throughout the UK and biomass systems are now being installed in commercial properties as a cost effective, efficient, low-carbon alternative to coal, oil or LPG fired boilers. The most suitable businesses, receiving the greatest benefits from installing a Biomass System, are those with properties not connected to mains gas. This is because the kwh price from biomass fuel is up to 50% cheaper than the kwh price of oil or LPG. In addition, commercial biomass systems attract the government backed Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI), which are payments received for every kwh of heat generated. The RHI payments are index linked and guaranteed for 20 years. Fuel cost saving of up to 50% when switching from Oil, LPG or electricity Additional income stream through the RHI Payback in as little as 2-3 years Reduced Carbon Footprint Readily available project finance based on a `Self- 15 funding model.

Solar Photovoltaic System Generating your own electricity reduces overheads and provides a 20 year inflation linked income stream. Solar Photovoltaic (PV) panels convert light into electricity which can be used to power businesses. The PV panels need daylight and will continue to generate electricity on cloudy days. A Solar PV System can be installed on most commercial roofs or be ground mounted. The system should not be affected by shading and a southerly aspect will optimize the electricity generated. Maintenance is minimal and the panels are designed to last in excess of 20 years. A commercial Solar PV installation is a sound financial investment, reducing the energy costs and carbon footprint, whilst increasing the profitability of the business. Due to the falling cost of the technology; and the government s Feed in Tariff (FIT) scheme, Solar PV makes commercial sense and can help businesses protect themselves against continually increasing electricity prices. Return on investment under 7 years Inflation linked FIT income, guaranteed for 20 years Reduced Carbon Footprint Insulation against rising energy costs Project finance based on a `Self-funding model Minimal maintenance 16

Tax Relief for Investment in Energy Saving Technologies Many energy saving technologies qualify for tax savings through the Enhanced Capital Allowances (ECA) scheme. The ECA Scheme is a key part of the Government s programme to manage climate change. It provides businesses with enhanced tax relief for investments in energy saving equipment. A number of our technologies are not only officially recognised as being energy efficient with the Energy Technology Criteria List (ETCL), but clients can now qualify for an up-front tax relief through the Enhance Capital Allowance (ECA) scheme. For the most up to date copy of the ETCL and for further information about the ECA Scheme please refer to the ECA website http://etl.decc.gov.uk/etl Information on ECA Schemes is available at http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/manuals/camanual/index.htm Funding for Energy Efficient Technology There are various sources of finance available for installations of energy efficient and renewable technologies. Under these schemes it is possible for an installation to be entirely Self-financing from day one. This means the cashflows/ savings from the technology will pay-off both the interest and the capital from the loan. Some of the funding is aimed at public sector organisations such as schools, hospitals and universities (potentially interest free), whilst other funding from the likes of Siemens (through the Carbon trust) and Lombard is aimed at businesses.
