PROJECT SUMMARY Name of the project: Project Proposal for Mushroom Units (Small) under RKVY 2013-14 Project Site: 1000 units in the districts like Puri, Cuttack, Ganjam, Sambalpur. Project Cost: Rs. 3,00,00,000 RKVY assistance Rs.2,10,00,000 + 2,10,000 (Administrative 1%) = Rs. 2,12,10,000 Implementing agency: Directorate of Horticulture, Odisha, Bhubaneswar Technical Support: AICRP on Mushroom, OUAT, Bhubaneswar, Odisha Year of Implementation: 2013-14 23

Scheme of Mushroom production (small unit) with the investment of Rs30,000/- (Thirty thousand only) Introduction: Mushroom is a palatable food accepted by people as daily diet and alternative to meat & fish. Also it is a vegetarian diet but gives nutrition of non-veg such as some essential amino acids, vitamins and minerals. Straw, the main raw materials is plentily available. There is no constraint to get spawn, as so many spawn units are there in the State. Now a days people are fond of consuming mushroom in different ways like curry, snacks, soup, salad, mixed with rice, & pickle etc. Technology is simple with low cost & easily available to the interested entrepreneur. It is a quick returning crop with 50 to 100% profit for which financial support from any financial agencies are easy to get. Thus mushroom cultivation is a another source for self employment of unemployed school and college drop outs. 2. Objectives a. To produce 120 beds of paddy straw mushroom with a production of 120Kg. per month during summer and rainy season and 225 bags of oyster mushroom producing 450Kg. in witner season @ 2kg/bag. b. To earn rupees 6000/- per month from paddy straw and Rs.4,500/- from oyster mushroom. 6. Land and building Assuming that the promoter is possessing own land where the project will be worked out, one shed of 300sqft. area with the length of 25 feet and width of 12 feet will be required. The shed will be constructed over 10 to 12 pillars/ poles made of bricks or stones or wooden poles and there will be thatched roof made of straw on bamboo frame. Some space will be kept for construction of soaking tank with an area of 4'x4'x3'=48 or 50 cubic feet which will be used for soaking the straw bundles for paddy straw mushroom and straw pieces for oyster mushroom and milky mushroom. 24

7. Plant and Machineries A. Sprayer made of brass/plastic (either, American spring make or any reputed companies make) can be purchased for spraying water on the bed and bag or inside the mushroom production shed. This can be purchased from branch of M/s. Odisha Agro-Industries Corporation or any shop dealing with agricultural machineries. B. Chaff cutter- This is used for cutting the straw into pieces for cultivation of oyster mushroom and milky mushroom. The Chaff cutter can be procured from any Village blacksmith. C. Pumpset (0.5 HP): This is used to supply water to mushroom production shed. The pump set can be purchased from any shop dealing with agricultural machineries. D. Heating Drum: To sterilise the straw Oil drum can be used. E. Thermometer & Hygrometer: These two instruments can be purchased from any scientific shop. Thermometer and Hygrometer are fixed in the mushroom production shed to know temperature & humidity in the house respectively. (Paddy straw & Milky 25-38 0 C,Oyster 20-30 O C) (Paddy straw 85%, Milky and Oyster 75%) 8. Action Plan a. Construction of mushroom production shed and soaking tank will be done within 1st 10 days. b. Purchase of straw & other machineries will be done within a weak. c. Production will be started arranging other inputs taking another week. 25

Oyster Mushroom Each bag will occupy 4 sqft including interspace. Space of 300sqft. will provide accommodation to 225 bags (300/4=75x3tier) for two months. c. Yield and anticipated income per month 1. Production of Mushroom i. Paddy straw mushroom-1.0kg. per bed and for 120 beds 120Kg. per month. ii. Oyster Mushroom-2Kg. per bag and for 225bags 450Kg. per two months. 27

2. Income i. Paddy straw mushroom-120kg x Rs.100= Rs.12000/- per month. ii. Oyster Mushroom-450Kg. x Rs.40 =Rs.18,000 per two months. 3. Net Income i. Paddy Straw Rs.12000 Rs.6000 = Rs.6000 in one month ii. Oyster Mushroom Rs. 18000 Rs. 9000 = Rs. 9000 in two months. Physical Target- It has been envisaged to cover 1000 units in the districts like Puri, Cuttack, Ganjam, Sambalpur. Financial requirement-as the project cost is Rs 30000/ per unit and the small and marginal farmers are the targeted groups, It is proposed to provide 70% subsidy on this units. As such, Rs 21000/- per unit may be assisted out of RKVY. The subsidy amount will be provided after the construction of shed, and successful raising of 120nos Paddy Straw Mushroom beds in a period of one month with proper documentation. The total fund requirement is Rs. 21000x1000 +1% Adm. Charges= Rs. 2,10,00,000+ Rs.2,10,000=Rs 2,12,10,000 (Rupees Two Crore Twelve Lakh Ten Thousand) only. 28

OPERATIONAL GUIDE LINES (Mushroom): Selection of Beneficiaries: Any entrepreneur/ one SHG having own/ leased out land of 2000 sq ft can be selected. One entrepreneur/ one SHG can avail the assistance for one unit only. SHGs should have been evaluated at Block Level. Preference should be given to new entrepreneurs in mushroom cultivation, trainees from SoH, khordha/ HTI, Sambalpur/ Kandhamal, SF & MF, ST & SC beneficiaries. The beneficiary should be willing to share the additional cost (Beneficiary share) required for establishment of mushroom unit over and above the subsidy limit. Beneficiary should maintain a register to record the cost and benefits which should be duly countersigned by the field staff fortnightly and AHO finally. Such registers should be verified by the respective / during inspection. An abstract of the demonstration results should be kept with the / with photographs of the demonstration. Application procedure: The beneficiary has to apply in writing to establish the mushroom production unit. Selection should be made on first come first serve basis. For this a list has to be maintained in a register at office of the /. /, AAE & AHO will visit the site and study the feasibility of the proposal such as land availability, water source, electricity, willingness of the beneficiary/members of the SHG etc. Issue of work order to the selected beneficiaries by the /. The project has to be completed within 45 days from issue of work order. Release of funds: The entire amount of subsidy will be released after completion of the project as online transfer. However / may release in splits basing on progress report. The defaulters may be issued warnings from time to time and may be disqualified if not completed the work within 60 days from issue of work order and new beneficiary may be selected. 29
