Polarization Instructions Assembling the Vacuum Household Models: F3300, F3500, F3600 and F3700 To reduce the risk of electric shock, this appliance is equipped with a polarized alternating current line plug (a plug having one blade wider than the other). This plug will fit into the power outlet only one way. This is a safety feature. If you are unable to insert the plug fully into the outlet, try reversing the plug. If the plug should still fail to fit, contact a qualified electrician to replace the obsolete outlet. Do not defeat the safety purpose of the polarized plug. Nozzle Cloth bag Power cord Quick Cord Release F3300 and F3300C Handle F3500, F3500C, F3600, F3700 and F3700C Handle Commercial Models: F3300C, F3500C and F3700C This vacuum cleaner must be grounded. If it should malfunction or break down, grounding provides a path of least resistance for electric current to reduce the risk of electric shock. This vacuum cleaner is equipped with a cord having an equipment-grounding conductor and grounding plug. The plug must be plugged into an appropriate outlet that is properly installed and grounded in accordance with all local codes and ordinances. This vacuum cleaner is for use on a nominal 120-volt circuit and has a ground plug (see illustration). Make sure that the vacuum is connected to an outlet having the same configuration as the plug. No adapter should be used with this vacuum. Important Note: Under no circumstances should you plug in the vacuum cleaner prior to complete assembly. Models: F3300 and F3300C The vacuum cleaner handle is packed as a separate component that requires assembly. Installing the Handle: 1. Release the handle bracket from the handle tube by removing the two screws (figure 1). Fig. 1 WARNING Improper connection of the equipment-grounding conductor can result in the risk of electric shock. Check with a qualified electrician or service person if you are in doubt as to whether the outlet is properly grounded. Do not modify the plug provided with the vacuum if it will not fit the outlet, have a proper outlet installed by a qualified electrician. Grounding Grounded Outlet Grounded Outlet Box 2. Place handle onto the handle tube, aligning holes with pegs (figure 2). Fig. 2 6 7

Vacuum Features Vacuum Features On/Off Switch NOTE: There are three different on/off switch configurations depending on the model you own. Identify your vacuum cleaner model and see the corresponding on/off switch operating instructions below. Models: F3300 and F3300C On/Off switch on base: Locate the switch on the back side of the nozzle to the left of the handle tube (see figure 10). Simply press the switch with your foot to turn the vacuum on or off. Machine should be turned off before returning handle to full upright position. Always turn the vacuum cleaner off before unplugging it from the electrical outlet. Models: F3500 and F3500C On/Off switch on handle: Locate the switch on the top of the vacuum handle. Using your thumb, push the switch forward to turn the machine on and pull the switch backward to turn the machine off (see figure 11). Fig. 10 On/Off two speed switch on handle cont. Pull the switch backward to turn the vacuum on. Push the switch halfway back to turn the vacuum off. Push the switch all the way forward to use the maximum power setting. Machine should be turned off before returning handle to full upright position. Always turn the vacuum cleaner off before unplugging it from the electrical outlet. Edge Cleaning The edge cleaning feature provides improved cleaning near walls and stationary furniture. For maximum edge cleaning, place the left side of the nozzle against the wall or stationary furniture. Automatic Carpet Height Adjustment Your Freedom vacuum is designed with an automatic, self-adjusting nozzle. No manual adjustments are required. The height of the nozzle is instantly and automatically adjusted to the flooring surface. This selfadjusting feature allows the nozzle to float evenly over all flooring surfaces. Machine should be turned off before returning handle to full upright position. Always turn the vacuum cleaner off before unplugging it from the electrical outlet. Models: F3600, F3700 and F3700C On/Off two speed switch on handle: The switch for these models, located on the vacuum handle, is a three-way switch. The middle position is the off setting, the rear position is the on setting and the forward position is for maximum power (see figure 12). Fig. 11 Bare Floor Cleaning - Models F3600, F3700 and F3700C The F3600, F3700 and F3700C models come equipped with a squeegee on the bottom of the vacuum to improve its effectiveness in cleaning bare floors. When cleaning tile, hardwood, linoleum, etc., use the on setting, as opposed to the maximum power setting, for best results (see figure 13). Use the maximum power setting for carpet Fig. 12 cleaning and the on setting for cleaning bare floors and throw rugs. 10 11 Fig. 13

Vacuum Features How To Brushroll Jam Indicator Models: F3700 and F3700C If an object, such as a throw rug or article of clothing is ever picked up into your vacuum, the vacuum will sense this jammed brushroll condition and turn off the brushroll. When this happens, the brushroll warning light on the top of the nozzle will flash in red. Turn off the vacuum and remove the cause of the jam. Turn vacuum back on. If the brushroll is free of any object and the brushroll warning light is still flashing, it s likely the clogged condition is located in the vacuum motor fan. If so, please take your Freedom to an Authorized Simplicity Retailer for service. Change the Vacuum Bag CAUTION: First, unplug the vacuum cleaner from the electrical outlet. 1. Unzip outer cloth bag (figure 14). 2. Remove used bag by pressing the bag holder tab and pulling bag off vacuum (figure 15). Discard used bag. 3. To install new bag, position the bottom of the bag collar into the bag collar holder (figure 16). 4. Push the top of the bag collar inward until the collar snaps into place under the bag holder tab. 5. Zip the outer cloth bag closed. Fig. 14 Fig. 15 Lifetime Belt Protection Warranty Models: F3700 and F3700C Your vacuum belt is covered with a lifetime warranty. If you have trouble installing the new squeegee, please see your Authorized Retailer. Reset the circuit breaker Your vacuum features a circuit breaker to protect the machine against damage due to a surge in the electrical current. Electrical surging can be a result of, though not limited to, a jammed brushroll (i.e. vacuuming up a sock or throw rug) or a jammed motor fan. Should your Freedom vacuum cleaner experience a jammed brushroll with the circuit breaker tripping, first turn the vacuum off and unplug the unit. Inspect the brushroll by removing the bottom plate (see How to Remove Bottom Plate ) and remove any debris which may be causing the jam. Reinstall the bottom plate (see How to Install Bottom Plate ), reset the circuit breaker by pressing the Circuit Breaker Reset Button (figure 27), plug in power cord, and turn unit on.
